You buy an Intel chip from before 2006 that didn't have the IME built-in. Or an AMD chip from the FX line or older, as their newer stuff has a similar hardware backdoor included.

x5470 fag reporting in
>>
>>55105573
No, no it's not considering at full load I am pulling slightly over 300w (311w is what im reading)

That's including all my HDDs, my monitors (since they're on the same UPS), motherboard, RAM, GPU, and LED lights and shit.

So no, that CPU is not drawing anywhere close to 300w. Maybe if it was the 8 core version at that speed. At most from the CPU itself it's probably a bit over 200w.
>>
>>55105573
>electric bill
at stock it's rated as a 140w CPU (but so is the 5960x which has 2 more cores, so more likely it uses ~100-120w at stock) assuming normal average US electricity costs, that's ~$0.13 per kw/h. So ~105kw/h per month running 24/7 is ~$13.65 for a full month of 24/7 at 100% CPU load.

Even assuming your bullshit 300w number (which is way higher than what it would actually draw) you're looking at ~$29.25 for a full month at 100% load.

And again, that's 100% load 24/7 for a month. The average person will NEVER see use like that, and further, that overclocked 5820k Idles at VERY similar levels to the non-overclocked 5820k Meaning the majority of the time they aren't being used 100%, they will be using similar power since they are idle.

making that $15 difference significantly less in the real world.

Basically shut the fuck up, if you can't afford an extra $5-10 a month you probably shouldnt have a $400+ CPU and a $200+ motherboard.

If you don't need the hyper threading then, yes, it's a meme feature. There are several workloads that benefit from hyper threading and the i7 series tend to perform better all around over an i5 of the same architecture since they start off with a higher clock speed
>>
>>55106592
Yea that really was a dick move by Intel, 6 core 3.6GHz for $1000 then a year later the 5820k also had 6 cores at 3.3GHz for $400 (I got mine for $285 on sale). Both are unlocked multiplier and can OC to 4GHz+ (the 5820k can OC to ~4.5GHz on average). The 4960x also uses DDR3 not DDR4. The 4960x's only real advantage over the 5820k is it has 40 PCIe lanes vs 28 PCIe lanes.

But yea, Intel pissed off a number of people.

Yeah Broadwell-E is pretty disappointing. Then again, so is everything since Sandy Bridge.

Still, nice to know that X99 was a good choice so far, plenty of sweet Xeons to upgrade to if things go the crazy multi-core route.

yeah as long as your motherboard BIOS allows for it.

Thankfully mine scales all the way up to the 22 core e5 2699 v4.

I disagree. Haswell E was impressive when it debuted, which is why so many people have it still (not to mention it ushered in X99 and DDR4)
Skylake was also pretty good, decent raw performance and lots of other hardware improvements

Besides that, yeah everything else was very meh

How does it feel 4 of my Intel cores will destroy your "8" cores in anything?
