get an o2+odac if you can bud

i have one and use it for sennheiser hd 600s and its brilliant

also makes my speakers sound better then through my mobos sound card so they go through it too
>>
>>55104829
to elaborate some guy who was apparently an audio engineer sperged out at shitty overpriced amps/dacs/soundcards and posted his own design and gave companies permission to make it as long as they do it right, so you can get it from mayflower, jdslabs, and maybe a few others.

He left afterwards and i dont think ever returned but the amp/dac just sounds so good to my ears
>>
>>55104829
Thanks. A follow up question, I use the Peace equilizer APO with Windows. If I use a digital output from the mobo through USB or SPDIF will this bypass the equalizer?

I notice there is one playback device in the menu called Realtek Digital Output. I'm not sure if this the SPDIF port only or USB also?
>>
Alright hpg I fell for the MDR 7506 meme and I must say it's a good meme.
>>
>>55104887

now you just need a decent amp/dac combo to make the 7506 sound punchier in bass, tame the treble and give it solid mids
>>
I'm interested in these Mayflower modded Fostex T50RP Mk3s. Any opinions?

https://www.mayflowerelectronics.com/shop/headphones/fostex-t50rp-version-3/
>>
>>55104802
I could never find a comfortable fit for the k712, the wing suspansion design just was not able to hold the ear cups at either the same height, or with any amount of clamp force on my head. I imagine the problem might not extend so far for a person with a smaller skull though. I'm 6'1" and have a big head.

I now use sennheiser hd598's and I love them to bits. They don't quite have the detail of the 712, but I'm looking to get some hd650's in the future because I love the way the sennheisers sit on my head and I've already owned dt880's in the past but my father owns hd600's and they're the bees knees, I just got the hd598 as a temporary replacement for the broken k712.

Bass in the he400i shouldn't be overpowering, it's supposed to be pretty accurate, check some reviews.

People recommend the srh1840 by shure but the measurements look like shit and they have a weird sound signature by the looks so I'd take those with a grain of salt.

>>55103342
The mixing and mastering engineers are responsible for this, not the artists. While studio monitor accuracy does vary quite a bit, it's not as radical of a different than plugging in Earbuds. And in the end, the arbitrary equalizer that your colored piece of gear actually becomes to might even make some tracks sound better to you personally than they would during the mastering.

http://www.genelec.fi/documents/publications/SurveyofMonitoringConditions.pdf

>>55103476
K240 Mk II is V-shaped and HD-681 is bright. I'd say the HD-681 is a better choice here but beware of the comfort.

>>55103652
Of course. Not only is that a matter of opinion but something playing in real life always mixes in with the environment. Something that was recorded in a very silent studio, using good quality equipment, carefully mastered and then played back with a high quality system could very well sound better to many than the same thing being played back without the post production and acoustics of a studio.

>>55104067
Most would consider it a downgrade to the K612 and K7-series headphones. Same applies to K812.

>>55104772
Whichever you prefer. Do note that in some cases the USB can be prone to EMI and carry that in the signal to your DAC. This is rare though and likely not an issue.

>>55104861
EQ APO is a system wide software equalizer which works on every single DirectSound device. So no, it will not bypass your digital outputs.
>>
>>55105126
My opinion is that you should buy it. Fostex is pretty much the final boss of headphones.

> K712
Not less muddy than K7XX. They're both worse than K702/Q701, which is also cheaper, depending on where you live. K612 is also better than K712, but it has harsher treble than K702/Q701 imo.

>>55104067
> why no K712?
Buy one yourself and compare it along with a K702/Q701/K612. People in these threads started considering the K712 only because a guy here liked it and started shilling it over and over. Before that, noone ever considered the K712 as good as the K702/Q701/K612. If you're curious about the AKG sound, get one of these and disregard everything else.

Golden rule of audio products: more expensive doesn't always equate to better.

Been watching a certain series and I noticed that when there is a loud "impact"-ish sound like an explosion or a crash or something, it will usually have noticeable distortion, kind of like the sound gets shredded or something. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Pretty noticeable distortion on pretty much every loud explosion, though I'm not sure if it's the encoder's fault or what, haven't really noticed the problem much in other stuff but it's super noticeable here in almost every episode where such sounds occur. Told an anon in the old thread I'd comment on the HiFiMeDIY DAC. It arrived a day earlier than expected.

Compared to motherboard out (using Beyer DT770 250ohm):
The volume goes a lot higher.
Sound is clearer.
More detailed, getting those textures better.
"Soundstage" seems bigger, more wide. Seems easier to separate instruments? (I've missed these two things from previous headphones)

So overall it seems it was true about them needing a bit more power. They're better driven now. Unfortunately that also means I'm now hearing the DT770's treble more (which I was warned about) which isn't so much to my liking.

Also it came with optical out on the same socket as the headphones plug in to, which I wasn't expecting.

I was only looking for a DAC, but may need different headphones now as there's only so much EQing can do and I wouldn't mind more

Worth the £40, but buyer's remorse is creeping up for the DT770s. They're not bad, just not much to my liking. Too v-shaped.

Anyone I hope the curious anon sees this.

Also hoping for a rec on something with better mids (bass bleeding on to them is a dealbreaker), milder treble, less clamp. Open/semi-open?

Would a DT880 achieve this?

Guys I need something I could wear all day long at work. I'm a developer, in an office with some coworkers.

I don't care that much about sound quality, I'm mostly using Spotify or some web radios anyways, I'm looking for something REALLY comfy that's not gonna make feel like I need to kill myself after 2 or 3 hours of wearing.

Any advice ?
>>
>>55108321
it sounded to me like the whole audio had a little gargling/popping/crackling kinda feel to it

you know the sound a campfire makes when the wood is burning? if someone could make that into an audio filter, then sennheiser has put something like that into their headphones and toned it down hard so it is subtle

I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all, but many years ago I went into a shop and auditioned some of the headphones there, the sennheiser had some gargling going on (i forgot model but it was a black one with big drivers, they said it was high end)

>>
>>55108390
It's likely they were using an awful audio splitter and a low quality source. I recently tested some headphones at a jb-hifi in Australia. There was audible hiss sibilance and distortion on every track they had playing. It was obvious they were using low bitrate mp3's to display their headphones with.

You might wish to re-evaluate your assessment of the brand based entirely off one bad experience from an awful shop.
>>
>>55108505
Uh, really? I thought the m50x had bigger driver and broader frequencies. Thanks for the input anyways
>>
>>55108505
Don't listen to this. This anon probably hasn't even heard either headphone and is basing his autism off /g/'s own autistic rants about how the m50x is worse than the m50 when the measurements don't agree.

It's the same as when they claim anybody who recommends the hd598 is a "sennshill" and retarded because the 558 is somehow superior because they saw an autist posting such on headfi once and choose to be contrary for its own sake.

>>55108443
Neither will be particularly flat, and detail on the m50x is lacking, my advice is to fill out the purchase request form and advise as to the options you have regarding price and location.
>>
>>55108461
>>55108501
Why change what's sounding perfect? The only thing I could see making a difference would be the different driver types like planar magnetic or electrostatic.

>>
>>55108564
Thanks for your input too.

But the question is really simple. Im either going for m50x or m40x. I will go for the m50x as long as the difference is worth the price. In my country the difference being 2x the price.
>>
>>55108583
Depends on your definition of perfect, which here seems to mean value for money.

I would suggest maybe trying a higher end pair of headphones paired with an amp in a hifi store using a cd you know. It might change your mind, but if you don't hear a difference there's no point convincing yourself to buy something you don't want.
>>
>>55108633
Again my advice is don't get either. Neither is really very good and you haven't given us anything to go off. Twice the price might mean they're $400, or $40.
>>
>>55108583
not really, big part of the sound depends on the skill of the company (e.g. HiFiMan, Takstar, Superlux, basically all chink companies copy from european headphone makers since they have their phones made in Chinese factories and factory owner can just steal their technology and sell it around inside the country)

I can recommend the hd598 hd600 and hd650. You can likely find the hd600 for close to $300, but the 650 will probably cost more. I don't know any cheap American retailers so I can't really price check that for you.

The K712 seems to fit your bill, especially the soft ear cups part, but if you want to wear them while not lying down you may encounter problems with the suspension band design.

That said if you really like your mids then the best recommendation I can make is sennheiser, beyer and akg mids often sound less forward than on sennheiser headphones making voices and vocals sound like they're a secondary part of the music, instead of taking up part of the whole.

It's a matter of preference.
They have different FR, with roughly similar construction.
The M50 and M50x have a more noticeable bass boost than M40x. Both have some treble edge to them, the increased bass may offset it. M40x costs less, that much holds

V4A has a convolver option, but lacks the parametric option. Convolvers are not directly conparable to PEQ, they go beyond it. They can duplicate the effect of a parametric through a generated impulse response.

Requires you to be able to generate the necessary impulse files, and root of course.

Besides Viper, you have players with built in PEQ for iOS and Android.

For Windows, the system wide solution before EQAPO was to route a VST plugin to the audio output.
That still is the solution for Macs and Linux. Mess around with Soundflower to use AU Lab or some other plugin.
Or maybe there is some more convenient solution, I haven't checked in a while.

Definitely 3.0. The 300 II is from a weird transitional phase when they catered their budget segment to the Beats crowd. Compared to my old CX 200, the 300 II sounded muddy as shit.

I'm saying that anon had less of a chance of enjoying the DT990's treble if they were already trying to reduce the treble on the DT770.

So the DT990 may not turn out to be fun if treble is a dealbreaker, which the above implied.

Bullshit. You suggested the DT990. I pointed out a well known issue with the DT990. In response you said the issue can be fixed with EQing. To which I pointed out your solution can be used to just about every headphone meaning it is a retarded solution that shouldn't be needed in the first place.

This might be off topic, but I just recently came into possession of a Sansui G-7500. I pulled it out of a dumpster, & I'm trying to figure out what to do with it.

Thoughts? I'm afraid to plug it in. Who knows if it's wet inside, or has dust that could short something out. How do I approach getting this running?

Buy a $5.50 USB Endoscope Camera on eBay and look for yourself. That's the usual low priced ones. Or $10~ on Aliexpress or eBay for Buy It Now.
>>

open it and post a pic here

I mean win. I won a $5.50 endoscope. Mistype.

Help me out, anons. My sennheiser HD558s are starting to get rattly on low end stuff on one side, so I'm looking for some upgrades from them.

I already have some IEMs so I'm looking for full headphones.
>Open or closed
Open, preferably. However, if it sounds like a closed headphone would be better for what I want, I'm fine with that.
>Comfort level
Real comfy. I wear my HD 558s for entire days, constantly, and I have not once had any discomfort from these headphones. I want something right along that area of comfy.
>Preferred tonal balance
I really like the sound of the HD558s, but I wish they had a little bit more low end. Just a little more would be fine, just enough so metal and harsher genres don't feel so lifeless, sometimes. Everything sounds real nice and controlled on these, but harder music genres lose a bit of their edge because of it, and poppier stuff loses some it's luster.
>Preferred music
I listen to everything. Harsh noise to radio pop. I want something that is pretty neutral so nothing sounds weird when I use the headphones. I also watch movies and play single player games with my HD558s, so I would like them to be a replacement for this, as well. If that's at all possible. If not, just focus on something that would be nicer for music.

Shure se215s

What is a good step up from the HD558s for someone who wants something similar, but a little more lively while still being neutral. I was looking at some AKG701/Q7010s and Massdrop x AKG K7XX as they look rather tempting. But, I'm just not sure.

Any help or reccs are appreciated.

Hair.

Open it up and remove hair. It's a mosquito buzz noise right? When bass plays.

It's going to be awhile. May not be able top get to it for a week, but will keep /g/ posted.

Also if driver membranes are deformed try opening it up and use stick tape to gently pull the creases. Pic related.

Use tape and a toothpick to lightly dab the tape onto membrane and gently pull.

You might be onto something, anons. I'll check that out. Might as well see if anyone has some reccs for me as well, just so I can get an idea of where to go from these headphones.

So you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. And cause it's easy for me to reproduce it here.

when I go on the quality test on this site. My left side sounds like it is actually rattling. Like it's shaking and that sound is not present on the right side.

It almost sounds like a crackling sound sometimes. Like, my drivers are making popcorn. I'll open them up and see for any trouble.

Don't wanna fill out the form since I have a small question, what are some good earbuds for 100$ or less?
I currently have the sennheiser MX 365 and they are great, I don't want the ones you have to jam deep inside your ear, these are the only kind I'll use. Was thinking of just getting another pair of these but the foam keeps coming off. I use to love the old apple ones before they changed the design

AKG K7XX is known to have this problem in early models. if you have a recent drop though, it shouldn't be there...

I want to be able to wear them for at least a couple hours.

what ever is decent for general use

>Preferred music
I listen to a wide range of music depending on what I am in the mood for as well as using voip software on my x220 while I am out
Classical, rock, EDM (mostly ambient trance like EDM and related stuff but house music rubs me wrong) are the major 3.

>Past headphones
Logitech gaymer headphones
the IEM's you get with iPhones and stuff
a few pairs of the lower end Sennheiser over-ear's

I was looking at the Beteran KZ ATE KZ-ATE because they look like they are receiving generally decent reviews and they are cheap.
I am a poorfag/frugal so I can't imagine spending more then $50 on some headphones.

Anyone know if AKG is actually made in Austria? Is Beyerdynamic actually made in Germany too?

I'm thinking about buying an AKG under 100 bucks. Need one because earbuds aren't good for my ears.

how much difference do DACs make, exactly?

I got the magni 2 amp but I'm using it with this $30 berhinger USB thing. would replacing that with the modi really be that noticeable?

2 questions boys.
1. Will a sansa clip be able to drive a dt770 80 ohm effectively? Not just loudness, but bass response as well (nwavguy said they can be muddy if not properly driven)
2. How do they sound for genres like indie rock, jazz, and classical?

Cheaper AKG are made in China. And cheaper rose to 500+$ headphones recently.

I don't know about Beyer.
>>
>>55113767
fuck dude, sorry to hear that.

Incidentally I received a k7xx 2 days ago, but immediately gave it away. I thought they were total garbage, I was shocked by how poor they were. Looking into it, AKG is experimenting a lot with both cost cutting and with making the sound profile more """popularly appealing""". Digging through head-fi, you can find lots of pissed off people. Last people know, it's manufactured dirt cheap somewhere in china.

Bro we got rekt

I might be looking to spend $200-$300
I live in the US
would be using headphones with my pc that has an MSI gaming 5 mobo that supposedly has a dedicated amp on one of the 3.5mm jacks but I assume that it doesn't work well compared to even cheap headphone amps

open/closed doesn't matter to me but I need to be able to wear them for 8+ hours at a time

I currently mostly play games and occasionally listen to music, I would probably prefer neutral headphones the most

currently I have cheap sennheiser HD-280s that I got for like $75, will I see a significant step up in audio quality in the $200-300 range enough to bother to replace them and if so what should I get?
>>
>>55103440
Define precise. To me precision is roughly accuracy, especially in the 2-5kHz range. MDR-V6, Etymotic ER-4S and HD600 are examples of what I'd consider to be precise headphones.

K550 sounds too bassy and the treble is too bright to be precise IMO.

>>55104736
HD650 and HD600 literally have the same bass response if you level them around at 200Hz.
