I don't really care about what they collect right now, but what they collect and how the use it should be more transparent.
I agree that there should be opt-out stuff easily available for people, but we shoudn't have some knee jerk reaction to data collection as who knows in what kind of wonderful ways it could help us in the future, is that not worth it ?
Even with GPS off, they still collect coarse location information about you.

It's not public if I didn't release them publicly. A Google search is a private action, an email sent to a doctor is a private message. Viewing a porn site with no intention to let anyone know is a private action as well.

Google harms my private life because:
- it associates my IP to my search terms even when I'm not logged in and this information is sold to countless third parties for profiling and targeted advertising;
- when I send an email to anyone using gmail, or from gmail, the whole message is used to create a profile of both the sender and receiver, this information is sold to third parties and used to generate targeted ads;
- when I'm viewing any website: porn, anime, games or whatever, my browsing habits are tracked and profiled through google adsense and analytics on 99% of websites.

Google has no control over every single employee in their data centers, anyone who has access for server manteinance or development can freely access any informations they want, they can then sell these informations to the black market/highest bidder, or they can simply use it for black mailing or stalking specific users, just like they already did in the past:
