Too bad ubuntu is so shit its installer crashes every 5 seconds and it's impossible to customize anything without bricking the install, unlike with debian.

You can get ~250mb netinst Debian and just download what you need on top of that
You can get 400mb DE-less Debian and download X-org and openbox and whatever else to bring it up to ~500mb
