anyone else miss firewire?
Not really.
Brings back memories of waiting hours for DVCAM tapes to transfer into FCP.

Yes

As a professional editor I miss those days. Getting paid to babysit tapes being captured was chill af

>original 400 Mbps connector design is garbage, port and the connector breaks all the fucking time
>Designed by Apple in California
>>55050545
I sort of miss the quiet days, but most of the time you'd have a manager come in and have a go at me for "slacking off".
Why three different connectors?
>>55050567
the 4 pin connector was shit but the 6 pin one was pretty nice. it was based off the gameboy link cable
>>55050604
The 6 is the standard, the 4 is for camera and small electronics, and the 8 is for double speed
>>55050468
Not really, no. Made my video communications class that much more stressful since most of the editing time in class was spent waiting around.
I still use it, it's great. Especially if you've got multiple Macs because Target Disk Mode is one of the greatest things ever
Security risk. Glad it's gone.
>>55050625
thunderbolt does target disk too. Much quicker
>>55050641
I know, but if you don't have any machines with Thunderbolt it's rather useless. I've got over 10 machines with FireWire.
>>55050625
Target disc is the only reason i have a firewire cable. The fuckwit i bought my 550mhz TiBook from thought it was a good idea to install leopard so i copied 9.2.2 and 10.4.11 off of my g4 tower onto it. I still never fucking use the laptop.
>>55050668
Does Target Disk Mode work with Thunderbolt?
>>55050666
what year....2010?
>>55050672
Yeah, but i dont own and never will own any macs that have intel processors.
>>55050672
see
>>55050641
>>55050668
My favorite capability is using one machine to install OS X on another machine and not needing to create any bootable media
>mount the installer
>boot target machine to Target Disk Mode
>run osinstall.mpkg
>select target machine's HDD
>>55050679
What?
>>55050719
Wasnt there a tool for that way back when on Tiger for the macbook air?
>>55050738
No clue, only MacBook I've ever had was a BlackBook
I really miss the days of intelligence agents having to have physical access to my machine to inject code, yes. Not really missing the port they did it with.
>>55050760
Apparently i was right. It came with 10.5 though so no idea what its doing on my 10.4 install machine.

You must live an interesting life anon. Or at least think you live one.
>>55050545
File based workflow is innately superior.
>>55050804
>>55050636
USB and Thunderbolt both have vulnerabilities so don't act like we're any better off now.
>>55050838
There was an update for 10.4 as well. Remember, back then, they were supporting multiple versions of OSX
