I personally just say "ksu-buntu".

It's just like the name "Cirno". There's no agreed-upon way to pronounce it, and nobody gives a shit.

Only part of this post that wasn't idiotic was Debian.

Depends. Is it your first Linux distro?
If so, Ubuntu or Xubuntu is the way to go..
Don't listen to the Arch/Gentoo memes. Get into that shit once you're comfortable with Linux and only if your time has no value.

Unity ubuntu sucks. I'm not sure if you kids remembered this but back when ubuntu was around version 10.04 netbooks were all the rage, and there was a netbook edition. The netbook edition later becomes the full fledge unity desktop in 11.04. 10.10 was the last great release.
>tfw your desktop environment was designed as a netbook interface
The other flavors are much better (xubuntu, kubuntu, gnome ubuntu).
Debian is also pretty great. I have way to many stability issues with manjaro and arch packages. I can say I wish there was a Antergos version for Debian.

Dell Chromebook 13 with Coreboot bios and Galliumos, glass trackpad, backlit keyboard, almost perfect adobe rgb ips 13" screen, magnesium alloy chassis, carbon fiber, Broadwell i3, around 9 hour battery life, better premium feel then a macbook, ≈ $500

Feels pretty gud. The new hp chromebook with usb c is pretty nice but I don't think there is a independent bios yet.

Xfce with the galliumos (it's a dell chromebook 13) arc gtk theme(im looking for a better gtk theme or gonna design my own). I like my themes with flat numix round icons but with slick and clean like glass windows and boarders. My minimalist crystal style is a beautiful style because it presents depth with minimalism. Flat minimalist looks bland and two demential.

The truth

This book doesn't duscuss user space
Tanenbaum doesn't discuss user space
The dino book doesn't discuss user space

No one except Stallman includes user space in the term operating system

Except Microsoft who has critical security vulnerabilities due to scrollbar code in the kernel

Plank as the dock (It's the best and most stable without crashes). XFCE xubuntu modified Galliumos Arc GTK theme (gonna find a more fitting gtk theme).

I wish QT themes have better support with other de's. I'm a fan of kde but dislike stability issues and resource use.
I stopped using arch and went back to xubuntu and debian because stability is very critical unless you want to reinstall distros over and over and move program profiles on such.

It's a conky config from my old arch system. I'm too lazy to change it to something else. I have a bug with my config boarder size so I need to completely rewrite it. That's why you see part of the board under the xfce panel.

I'm planning on using debian sid as my next desktop computer distro.
I'm also planning on doing GPU passthrough to play a few games.
I'm currently have my old acer laptop as a fedora sftp and ssh server but the speeds on my home's cat5e are sufferable. I have 2 gigabit swktches but they can't talk to each other so I use 2 belkin routers to link my upstairs and downstairs.

How is that book, Anon?

I just started reading it a day ago, and was wondering how the rest of it, and how it may compare to other books.

I'm also reading through a couple OS X internals books as well:

Mac OS X and iOS Internals: To the apple's core
Mac OS X Internals: A Systems Approach

Any idea which of those is better? I decided to go for the former because it was published more recently.

I prefer middle-of-the-road distros when it comes to accessibility. That way it's not retarded like Ubuntu, not not downright autistic like Gentoo. Otherwise they're all pretty interchangeable.

This.

Debian/Cent/Fedora etc are all pretty decent. I've used arch/ubuntu quite a lot but Debian wins for me. My university uses cent and it's OK.
>>
>>55043887

It's kind of true, anon. A lot of the time, here on 4chan, I say blatantly incorrect shit so that people will be eager to correct me.

Whenever I ask a question earnestly, it usually just gets ignored.
>>
If you are coming from Windows and want something that just works and are not interested in appearing to be a 1337 haxor then Ubuntu MATE is the answer.

You will notice that, while nice, it is still inferior to Windows in every aspect that a simple end user would notice. With Windows being very inexpensive you will most likely find no reason to use it as your main desktop OS, and simply go back to Windows after dicking around for a while.
>>
If you are coming from Mac OS X and are scared of the coming macOS apocalypse, jump on the Linux Mint train.

If you can.

Explain how. It all seems okay to me.

I've also heard that lately, Apple has been working on HUGE under-the-hood changes in XNU/darwin. Though users and application developers aren't affected because the codebase is so well-modularized.

Is that what you're referring to, or some more obvious userland or user-facing changes?

Debian is a common base for many distros, due to their primary sources of software being GPL or GPL-compatible. Ubuntu takes Debian's Testing branch (middle ground between stable and unstable), throws in some nonfree software, and sets things up to be easy on newbies. Bit on the fatter side, though.
Gentoo is a small preconfigured base, and you fill in the blanks for everything else. Can be very slim, very efficient, but requires notable time investment and not noob-friendly.
