I use a hard plastic case on my phone that I must have dropped a thousand time and still doesn't have any cracks on the screen.

The phone is at the exact same angle in the exact same position after it comes back into frame.
I use a wallet case. same idea but with card pockets. magnetic flap enclosure, and have no problems using it comfortably in either hand. Also acts as a kickstand too. good for video watching without having to hold your phone constantly. full cover protection on top of those which is kind of the point of a case. my input in a simple nutshell. do with it what you will.

cases adds durability to phone and small amount of cushion for shock. the modern smartphone is on the whole lacking in build quality (particularly apple) and thus they are easily bent broken or shattered with ease. this very much makes a case mandatory for anyone who leaves the couch.
and finally it can act as a wallet thus lessening the amount of shit you have to carry. your condoms, alcohol and firearms arent gonna hold themselves after all. lets face it, you only have so much room in your pants.
also allows you to carry car keys and phone/wallet in same pocket, which is a godsend.
