What do you think of KDE?
>>
Its quite nice 2bh
>>
>>55022231

I kind of like it but having a mix of both QT and GTK apps kinda sucks
>>
>>55022263
Sad how GTK and QT apps look great on Gnome but GTK apps look hideous on QT.
>>
>>55022231
Heavier on resources than any windows version, while looking worse and being much less productive.
Literally, the shittiest of shits.

It's total garbage.

KDE is like a NEET filter

Funny how only ThinkPad users and prajeets use Shitnome
>>
>>55022231
Developers are not taking their job seriously. They could make KDE the best DE and make Linux slowly dominate desktop computing, but they aren't doing it. This is probably because they aren't getting exactly paid for what they're doing.
>>
shit like all linux DEs
>>
>>55022401
They should all drop the gtk abomination and join KDE to continue developing the Best DE out there
>>
>>55022303
There's no KDE hater

Only buttmad salty poor people without decent hardware
>>
>>55022231
That looks extremely nice! Is that a standard theme? I would like to replicate that look :)
>>
Looks nice but i heard it's very heavy on the resources

how heavy, i don't know
>>
>>55022231
Bloated UI for low-end hardware
>>
It's heavy, I don't really dig the animations much or the font rendering which I'm sure it's adjustable maybe

But hey, being heavy it still runs pretty ok on integrated graphics. Which Gnome 3 fucking does not.
>>
>>55022565
Yes it does. Running it fine on my mobile HD3000 right now.
>>
Literally every time I install it on a clean system something goes wrong
>>
>>55022401
Uh, no.

The major problem is distros forcing gnome down everyones throats. It's basically free marketing, because gnome has tradition and freedumbs behind it and qt used to be proprietary. It's THE linux desktop, no matter how fucking bloated, slow, and all around bad it becomes, because it has the GNU name and ideology tacked onto it and KDE doesn't.

And now GNOME is different for the sake of different so linux has a linux look and feel, and redhat likes that
>>
>>55022584
On HD 4600 it's a stuttering bitch unless I decide to disable animations.

KDE doesn't run super smooth, but at least it doesn't do that kind of crap.
>>
Quite nice. The only downside is it is resource heavy. It uses 700MB ram when just turned on.
>>
>>55022285
I've had the exact opposite experience. GTK and Qt programs look fine when you're using KDE but Qt programs look like shit if you're using GNOME.
>>
>>55022613
Maybe you should install some drivers
I've got it on my x220t and its perfectly smooth unless I decide to use chrome and kill my cpu
>>
>>55022664
Yeah I decided to ditch chrome on linux since I can't get rid of tearing no matter what I could possibly fucking try at this point

I tried Ubuntu GNOME 16.04, I guess it being Gnome 3.18 it isn't the smoothest but hope is lost.
>>
The best there is. Literal perfection with tiny sprinkles of awesome dust.

Death to the false god, death to gnome!
>>
>>55022685
Have you tried Opera? I had screen tearing on Chrome, but no problems with Opera.
>>
>>55022699
I should try it sometime
>>
>>55022285
As long as you have the appropriate theme for gtk applications you can't tell the difference

>>
>>55022426
I agree. Qt is far superior than GTK, but there are so many GTK dependant programs and DEs.
>>55022606
Is there a way to ''force'' developers to slowly integrate GTK and Qt and make them compatible and not buggy or to completely abandon GTK?

Unless you're installing new software every few hours, it's not really an issue.
>>
>>55022231
Not official GNU DE like GNOME so pretty much worthless POS
>>
>>55023688
Arch is better. I get the absolutely latest software and not 3 year old versions of it. It's also very stable and secure.
>>
I used to use it till I switched to deepin
>>
>>55023724

Aah, so you've never actually used Slackware, gotcha.

>pro-tip: the current repo exists
>>
>>55023761
I switched over to deepin because of this issue, I managed to keep it under control mostly by using an SSD, but KDE still keeps freezing.
>>
It's disgusting and I hate it and I have to use it at work.

I don't care about freedom, I want games. You have to be a cuck to use an OS that lacks games.
>>
>>55023943
Then why the fuck are you posting on a thread that is clearly made for Linux users? Fuck off retard.

If you want games then go use fucking windows, I honestly don't care, but don't shitpost in a thread clearly made for Linux users, and that wasn't even shit talking windows either.

ive always like kde more, but endup using gnome most times. commodities i guess...

I don't get people who recommend gnome/unity.

They both run like fucking shit. Takes serval seconds to open the dash and new instances of application.

KDE run much better then those two shits. Krunner is almost instant in the search results. It's fucking disgusting how the gnome team can fuck up so hard.

KDE is fantastic.
Only people that hate it are ones that used it right at the 3 -> 4 switch and those who never used it.
>>
>>55024459
I miss the REAL Jordan.
>>
>>55024459
Tried it recently because it looks really nice, but it's really crashy compared to a simple WM setup. It actually imitates Windows too much with "krunner has stopped working" and crashing of the entire desktop with all of its components similar to when explorer.exe freezes.
So... No, I learned to hate it with Plasma 5.
>>
>>55024037

X-DD

It needs a lot of polish. And more complete themes instead of breeze. And being able to change themes without having to restart all the applicattions.

I don't see the network settings in the tray. Which package am I missing?
>>
>>55026902
He's using netctl or he's hiding the icon because KDE has a thing called "options" unlike gnome and unity.
>>
It's too bad programs look bad if you're not using breeze and one of the two default color schemes. I don't use Plasma because of the ugly inconsistency in its own applications.
>>
Kde 3.5 was pure perfection but as usual, the devs just had to fuck up everything with features no one asked for and by the time they made it usable again it was too late, and then came plasma 5 to start the cycle again a put the final nail in the coffin
Same goes for gnome
>>
>>55022231
Not as good as based compiz reloaded
>>
>>55027071
They fucked up with pushing things like akonadi and nepomuk down the throat of their users and the bugfest of first KDE4 releases. It was an apocalypsys and KDE lost a lot if users/devs because of that.
>>
>>55022616
On my desktop uses between 90-130 ram...
>>
>>55023624
U_U
>>
>>55027148
either this or they fucked up by introducing a closed enviroment that has loads of dependencies, therefore making people use the default k<someting> applications (because there is no sense in installing a second applications you like when you have one preinstalled) This results in some bad decisions becoming mandatory to use. Its why gnome3 is failing so hard right now.
>>
>>55027148
And once they fixed the kde4 bugfest they introduce a new one (plasma 5)

Its like loonix devs dont want things to work
