I've seen these and they do support one of the only games I care about, Freespace 2 Open, but last time I checked they were $200. Had a ton of support for racing sims, not really into those anymore.

what benchmark? that's not cpu-z you dummy it's gpu-z. it's there to make sure the gpu is actually applying the OC settings given to it by the precision x software. for some reason these settings just don't like to stick all the time. precision x will report it overclocked but GPU-Z tells the truth. precision x shows me how hard my gpu is working. for instance, i'm playing arma and getting abnormally shitty frame rates. is it my computer or is it a struggling server? well i can see my gpu's clock speed isn't maxed out so the card isn't being needed to its full potential and i know the arma server is the cause of the low fps.

Laptop is only convenient for travel which is why I also have one. I need/want the processing power of a high end desktop. I play games, edit a lot of photos and frequently encode videos. I despise laggy/poor laptop screens, laptop device drivers, I need a lot of hard drive space, I have dozens of devices hooked up to my PC which would require me to get a USB hub, external DAC/interface/headphone amp/preamp, external hard drives(which would likely be annoyingly slow), mouse, keyboard etc. I would literally clutter my desk with hubs and devices because a single laptop wouldn't do the things I want my computer to do.

For one thing, by your own admission, you're barely going to really get a clear picture of exactly the small area that you're staring at. Even if you were just watching a movie and doing nothing else, there would be details that you would "miss". So what's the gold standard here? Missing slightly less? Who cares?
For another, this is a truly bonkers way to evaluate a movie-watching experience. The only way that makes sense is to ask yourself if you enjoyed the movie at the end of the experience. You might be able to convince me that experience A (paying attention to just the movie) is better than B (sort of half-watching it), but since neither of us is willing to do between-subjects experiments on this accounting for variability in how entertaining various movies are to different people, let's just let it suffice to say that both A and B are sufficiently good experiences for the OP, for myself, and for myriad others here who have said that they watch videos on one monitor while doing other stuff on a second (or second+third).
I tried using three and four when there were a few extras in the IT office. I found diminishing returns beyond two. So I have just a landscape and portrait at most of my workstations.

Well the field of vision really is that small. Even on just the action game you have to rapidly move your eyes around the screen all the time. Once you've looked at a spot, the brain will remember how it looked like and give the illusion that you can see it detailed at that place, but it's just an approximation. If you look around fast enough, you will be able to "clearly see" the entire screen, webm related.
But if you never even look at the movie, except for very rare occasions, you will never really see what's going on.
Why are you watching the movie then? You might as well just play its sound in the background. If you just want visual noise, random color-changing LEDs will do the same job.
