How do I get better at typing?
I currently type with two fingers and thumbs on the space bar, I don't need to look at the keyboard but I can't comfortably use my entire hand.
I never learned proper typing technique in school, and it's embarrassing having my gf type 2x faster than me.
Practice alone can increase your accuracy and speed regardless of if you use the proper hand/finger positions or not.
However, using proper positions will generally help more.

I don't get it, if you typed 94 words why does it say 98?
>>55011835
I'm 24, is it too late for me?
>>55011864
Some words are longer, others are shorter, I believe it averages the character count to determine your WPM score.
>>55011880
nope, I am 22, but I did have proper typing classes for several years. I was still a solid 70WPM before I had lessons though.
If I wasn't concentrating on making sure to have no errors I could probably hit ~110-120wpm.
I'm learning Dvorak because currently I use 8 fingers with qwerty and adding in the other two is really difficult. Easier just to learn a new layout.
>>55011835
I'm irrationally upset that this anon got a better score than me
>>55012013
byron bernstein is one of the top ~50 typists in the world and he only uses two fingers on his right hand
>>55012072
Dont feel bad, if this thread lives long enough both of us will be called out for not being over 100WPM.

with errors you know i'd probably be better. Do a zero error run like I did and lets see what you get.

>I never learned proper typing technique in school, and it's embarrassing having my gf type 2x faster than me.
That's a bad reason to be embarrassed. As you can see, you still type faster than the vast majority of the users of that website. If you do get a job that requires you to type a lot, you'll get quicker automatically.
I never had any proper technique schooling either, and it annoys me, because I am only able to use two of my right hand's fingers (plus third for return and backspace) as I wasted most of my teens playing vidya. Techniques aside, I write a lot of code every day so I get a lot of practice.
Actually hadn't taken that test before. Pretty surprised because my typing really is far away from the proper technique and I'm on a laptop keyboard.

I know, Engish isn't my native language though.
I choked in some parts, so it slowed me down quite a bit, but it's a usable result.
>>55012333
Also, I did that on Cherry MX Blue switches, if anyone cares about that shit. I just like the tactile response from them, don't really give a shit about typing speed.

I used this to learn how to type with all fingers a couple years ago:
https://www.typingclub.com/typing-qwerty-en.html
I don't type much other than shitposts on 4chan, so I'm happy with my WPM.
>>55011812
Websites that teach you how to touch type are really useful. I'm pretty sure I used typingweb but their domain just takes you to typing.com now so they must have rebranded.
I used to type with two fingers and have a similar WMP to you, but that website teaches you the proper fingers to use for each key and everything so I just decided to learn touch typing myself.
If you do use that website, making an account to track your process helps.
Also, when you first start out it's going to feel super weird. I'd two finger typed for about 10 years and even pressing single keys with the correct fingers is difficult at first. Once you learn how to use all the keys just force yourself to type properly and not go back to two finger typing.
You end up typing at like 5 WMP to start off with but you'll get there eventually. I can type at almost 100WMP now using all fingers and my thumb for the spacebar.

I hate 10fastfingers. Something about typing a string of unrelated words gets to me.
>>55015225
Yeah, I agree with you. Found myself stumbling on the words since they were completely irrelevant to each other.
Oh man I need to practice

I have a mechanical (MX brown) keyboard too. I make too many fucking mistakes on this thing though. I accidentally brush off a key and five letters come up.
>>55016020
You have to get acustomed to their delicate nature man. brushy brushy is most common problem after moving on mechanical. Had same problem with my black outemu board.

Not fake, good job!
I expected worse.
The 2 wrong words were stupid though. I made a mistake on last letter, but since I had already pressed space it went to the next word and I couldn't correct it anymore. But I did not notice that fast enough, pressed backspace, the correct letter and space again, and bam, 2 wrong words.
