>Also bad news is the fact that Xiaomi has started locking more bootloaders. To our dismay, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 is one of the affected handsets. This is for your security, but tinkerers can still play around if they are patient.

>Xiaomi is requiring users to apply for unlocking privileges and await an acceptance or denial response, which Xiaomi says can take up to 10 days to receive. It’s good to keep phones secure for the casual user, but we feel this process is a bit to inconvenient. And we feel that Xiaomi’s process for unlocking only invites malware to be preloaded on devices leaving China, as users will have a very tough time removing it.

>You should probably not expect too many updates for this phone. We know that sounds pretty bad, but it is super affordable and does what it is meant to do, which would put it in the low-priority list in most cases. However, we should also note that MIUI does receive updates of its own, which are released relatively frequently.

>>

It's not an issue.
You request an unlocking code from Xiaomi and get it 4 days later. then you can flash the official roms.
If you don't wanna do that, you can ask the shop your'e buying the phone from do it for you. there was an anon a few days ago that bought RN3P and asked the shop to install global rom on it and it arrived fine.

Literally who gives a fuck? Did you miss the part where I said unlockable bootloader and rootable? If LG or whomever your carrier is says "lol fuck this model" then people on XDA or elsewhere will ALMOST ALWAYS keep supporting the phone for years. Even the Galaxy S2 still gets support.

Simplify it: ask them is they are bothered by the relative difficulty of accessing their files.

I managed to mount windows share on my android tablet, running latest cyanogenmod 13 nightlies.

Here is my experience:

The cifs kernel module is fucked on cyanogenmod. You need to specify the share name twice - once as device name, and once as unc parameter.

I also had issues with non-ascii chararcter turning into question marks, with iocharset=utf8 option ignored for the mount command. somehow, I got it to work by reordering options - putting iocharset=utf8 right after unc=<...>

Finally, I had to switch selinx to permissive mode for apps to be able to work with mounted directories, using setenforce command.

I put everything into a shell script, and saved it to /sdcard/mount.sh:
#!/bin/sh

setenforce 0

mkdir /mnt/cifs
mkdir /mnt/cifs/buffer

mount -o unc=\\\\192.168.1.34\\buffer,iocharset=utf8,username=Leaf,password=voidvoid -t cifs \\\\192.168.1.34\\buffer /mnt/cifs/buffer

I then installed Automation app and created an icon to run "sh /sdcard/mount.sh" as root.

Now I can open my stuff using any apps as if it was on a device itself, and so can you.

The processor, the 810, is notorious for poor performance and overheating, whereas the S7 has an 820 (or Exynos internationally) which is regarded as better in both aspects, particularly the Exynos version.

If you already don't like how Samsung handles things I'm not sure you'd like many Androids; each one has some kind of trade off. The HTC 10 might be good to look at, right now people are saying it's one of the best non-Samsung android phones out.

Depends on what you're after. I'm not sure if I should recommend a 2 year old phone, but I have the Z2 and I still love it after almost two years of using it. It got marshmallow a few months ago, I mostly use it for 4chan, web browsing, jewtube, taking pictures of rocks and plants on the street, watching weeaboo shit, skype and I used to use it for normiebook too before I deleted my account. It never stutters, in fact the only way I can make it "lag" is to scroll through the "running apps" section in the settings really fast.
The camera is good in sunlight, you can zoom a lot without losing too much detail, but it's kind of bad in low light, everything else is fucking perfect for me. I have dropped it countless times, and other than a few scratches on the metal rails there's nothing on it. It's surprisingly well built, I thought it would be fragile af since it has a glass back. This is actually the reason I'd recommend it over the Z3 which is said to break easily.
The software is great too, it's almost like using a nexus. I think this is why it runs so smoothly despite only having a 801

Preferably prepaid/no contract?
>>
>>55014329
Anon who hates Samsung here. Yes, S7 actually seems the best flagship at the moment, except maybe SE, depending on your tastes and needs.
>>
>>55014363
The early 810's problem isn't solvable by just improving the design of the phone, it was internal due to the heatspreader
>>
>>55014217
Well iphones are not really great at anything. The 6s and 6s plus still have 1/3" camera sensors, so even though the algorithms are good they just don't take good pictures especially in low light. 1440p oled screens also look fucking fantastic compared to 1080p lcd. About the RAM management, I wasn't even using android when that was a thing. I don't even know what I should do to "manage my RAM" on my phone, everything just works without a stutter. Sure sometimes it relaunches apps that you haven't used for a while, but it's still better than on iphones, which still lack proper multitasking, and relaunch stuff most of the time.
>>55014329

Having multiple apps running simultaneously and seamlessly switching between them without reloading.
>>
>>55014453
It means if you're in one app let's say youtube, and you're watching a video then switch to safari to google something you saw int the video, then to messenger to send a message about it, and then return to the youtube app to finish watching the video, the video will probably reload from the start on an iphone, or the app might even bring you to the starting page, while on a flaship android phone there's a smaller chance of this happening. Of course this is just an example, but more ram means the device can "keep more things in mind", so you'll be greeted with fewer loading screens, since the app remembers exactly what you were doing.
Both android and iOS have really good ram management, but android phones have more ram to work with.
>>
>>55014525
>>55014529
I see how this could seem like a problem, but this doesn't happen. I dunno. If you used iPhone for a longer period, you'd notice how you don't even end up needing it, just like file explorer. Its obsolete with OS like this. I constantly hear this file explorer complaint, but I honestly don't know how I'd be using it with the way it functions.
And as for multitasking, I simply double click home button and pick whatever app I left in the background, it doesn't reload or anything. Youtube also works same as it did on Android.
>>
>>55014307
Almost exact same size as the 6/s plus
>>
>>55014581
I have used iphones on and off for a long time, but an iphone is still just a fucking phone. iOS is not some supernatural woodoo shit that suddenly means the rules of technology and computing no longer apply. Iphones DO reload apps all the time, you just don't notice because it gives you a pleasant looking screen like pic related for about 3 seconds while it loads. It IS a loading screen, stop being delusional.
Also about file managing, sure it's not a problem when you don't even have directories, just "music" "videos" and "apps", since you need to ride iTunes's dick every time you want to transfer a file to your device. Honestly I'd rather spend time with sorting my files, while being able to drag and drop than to put up with apples "syncing" cuckoldry
>>
>>55014628
6s plus are way too expensive. Actually all new iPhones except SE now are too expensive for me to even consider buying them that same year.

>Waterproofing
Sony and samsung have waterproof flagships, and you shouldn't buy from other manufacturers anyway
>f/2.0 or bigger apertures (iphones have f/2.2)
More light hitting the sensor
>1/2.6" or bigger sensors (iphones have 1/3")
Bigger area to absorb light
>potentially better displays
Sony phones are 1080p lcd, same as the iphone 6s plus, the samsung s7 has a 1440p oled screen which is beautiful
>the ability to download apps outside the store
This is like jailbreaking your device and putting cydia on it to get a bunch of interesting apps not available on the app store, except you don't even need root access on android. Also you can pirate paid apps if you're into that
>the ability to get a refund on paid apps you don't like
You have an hour to decide if you want an app after paying for it, if you don't like it hit refund and the app gets uninstalled and you get your money back.
>more ram
Less of said loading screens, you probably won't notice at first but you'll spend less time waiting
>multiple accounts
You can set up accounts like on a PC and set their permissions. Great if you have kids who want to use it, or you just have something you don't want your friends to see (just save "stuff" on the other account, so it doesn't show up when scrolling through shit with your friends).
>drag and drop
No more stupid ass syncing, and adding stuff to your itunes library, you can just copy and paste stuff like it's a flash drive.
>third party apps by default
There's this video player I like, it's simple, can manage multiple audio tracks, and subtitles and you can control the brightness by sliding your finger up or down on the left side of the screen, and the volume by doing this on the right side of the screen. You can scroll forward or back by swiping horizontally. You can also long press play, and it will not stop playing the audio if you exit the app.
You can set this, and apps like this to be the default when you open a specific file extension or link.

It reminds me of when the iPod came out and the media made a big deal of how much storage space it had, saying that the only way they could fill it up was by pirating music. now of course we've got even more space than that but we actually have things that we can put on it but the system doesn't seem to want to let us do that.

Crapdragon may look interesting at first glance (if you're blind), but it's gimped and shit. If you want an s7, try to get the exy version or don't bother with it at all - just get another phone. The US cuck edition is too compromised and you'll always wish you'd bought the non-ruined one.
>>
>>55019371
I like sd as an option. Transfer files from pc to have them on the go (travel internationally a lot), and made a vow at a young age due to this lifestyle (that I still live) to never ever be bored and idle. Too many long flights, drives, waiting rooms etc., always a gamegear/boy/book in hand. Now I can carry so many of them against the day I get bored. Multiple movies and albums now, too - the age we live in!

Also of course i keep various docs for work, but they don't take up much space.

It's the option to carry more stuff with no negatives; not like the days where if you wanted, or needed, to carry multiple files/books/whatever, you had to physically cram more shit into your luggage or on your person.

I like more options, even if I'm not currently in need; I like that the ability is there should I have need or desire for it. Limitations irk me, and make me anxious if I always have to keep an eye on how much storage space I have left.

I just got an S7 edge today. Be warned, you can make it look like stock, but it definitely doesn't run as smoothly as stock. Scrolling is weird and inconsistent, sometimes it goes short, and sometimes it just doesn't move. The way the recent apps works is awful. There's still weird little stutters everywhere that I never got on a Nexus. Not to mention the system animations are all different from stock.

Nexus 6p was too big for me, but I'm not sure if I can deal with this jank touch wiz. I think I'm gonna just keep using my Nexus 5 until the next Nexus comes out and hopefully doesn't suck.

>you can run stock on international right?
No. No alternative roms are able to be loaded on either. US one can't because the bootloader is locked, and the int. version no because, although there's an unlockable bootloader (and thus all the benefits of rooting are available), no one knows how to work with the new exynos processor. No cyanogen, paranoid nor stock.

You can make it look and work like stock using the various themes, cutting bloat and using a custom launcher, but it's not the stock vanilla rom.

Regardless, international version >>>>>> us cucky mccuck version.
>>
>>55020158
>The way the recent apps works is awful. There's still weird little stutters everywhere that I never got on a Nexus

Yeah nexus are pretty much the smoothest android scrollers. Samsung's been known for that stutter. Do you have snap or exy?

Also, what's wrong with the recent apps display?

Have you done anything to streamline operation? Package disabler et. al.? I wonder if cutting all those useless cluttering background operations would help at all.
>>
>>55020632
I have the snapdragon version.

The scrolling on the recent apps is really weird. Its hard to describe, but once you use it you can tell. Plus it has an anti fast movement feature or something. If I scroll too fast, it literally just doesn't move. I have to physically move slower just to use this phone properly.

I haven't tried any package disablers. I don't think it would do anything though. It's not a problem with the CPU being bogged down, as I can do that with a game and get very noticeable lag, it's just poorly coded software.

Keep in mind that I am very nitpicky about this stuff, so it's possible it wouldn't even bother you. It just doesn't make any sense to me that a nearly 3 year old Nexus 5 gives a much smoother experience than a brand new top of the line flagship.

I really hope every flagship won't have an unlockable bootloader so the >muh customization meme dies

If the kept the front facing speakers and stuck the scanner on the side ala Sony this would've been close to the perfect phone

I'm still rocking my glorious Xperia Z3 but I feel like getting something a little bigger. I am unsure which flagship can compare with the Z3 which is excellent all around. I tried a Galaxy S7 flat some time ago and I was totally disappointed by the shitty samsung software, it literally felt slower than my Z3 (which is unmodded and unrooted by the way, fully stock), and wasn't better in any aspect other than the camera and maybe the screen when watching Anime because of the AMOLED which is pretty much only good for Anime.

I was considering the Z5 Premium but it's too expensive. The Huawei Nexus 6p is a bit too big. What's a 5.5 inches phone that is a definite improvement over the Z3?
