Why is capped internet still a thing in murrika?
>>
Government granted monopoly on providing Internet services for the last mile.
Crumbling infrastructure all around in USA.
Money going to handful execs instead of enriching populace.
Reality TV and celebrity culture distracting populace that has been brain washed with industrial factory style education and idolization of consumerism and government.
What you're witnessing is the fall of Rome in the 21st Century.
>>
>>55008723
Holy shit loosen that tinfoil a bit I think it's affecting your blood flow.

The reason is because the FCC has a lot of grey area in their rules about data caps. Luckily my ISP just removed data caps in our area so now I'm truly unlimited. Might upgrade to gigabit soon as well.

But I'm not even american. I'm french. I asked because americans always talk about their data caps, canadians too.

Here capped internet disappeared a long time ago. It's only a thing on phones. 20€/month will get you 5gb of data, and unlimited calls, sms and mms.
>>
The free market will sort it out.
>>
>>55008922
>mfw paying $120 CAD/month for 1gb data, txt/sms, 50 minutes talk

Maybe, if it existed in the US.

>>55008922
Keep your pedophile cartoons to /a/.
>>
>>55008939
The problem is that we do not have a free market for ISPs in most of the US; local governments control who can lay down cable/fiber, and in many areas they let the cable companies get away with such shenanigans.
>>
Where the fuck even is it capped?
>>
>>55008723

Time warner in trial areas
Comcast nationwide at 300GB, unlimited costs extra
Suddenlink in their service areas
Cablevision in NYC metro will probably have caps too because the french company that owns suddenlink just bought them out and they're greedy as fuck (altice)
>>
>>55008994
What. The. Fuck.

How the fuck are we supposed to download that 1.5TB Touhou lossless audio torrent?

Pay $30 extra, or have a business connection instead of a regular one (also costs more).

Wrong wrong wrong.

Comcast in -some- areas has 1tb cap.

TWC/Charter has none at all and wont for at least another 7 years.

Anyhow, the US has better internet infrastructure than most EU nations. Only a few small Eu nations have better internet and still get beat by US states with similar populations.

That's actually probably a good thing though. If anyone could run wires there would be a giant clusterfuck obstructing the sky in a lot of places. It's better that there be one common set of wires that everyone can have access to. The problem is not everyone has access to those wires right now.
>>
In my home town the local cable company has data caps, but we also have a municipal run fiber network that lacks caps, has faster & more stable connections, and is priced slightly cheaper than the cable, both for internet alone & tv/phone package deals. Yet the cable company stays in business. I don't understand.

Where I live even the mobile internet isn't capped. Unlimited 4G LTE, unlimited same-carrier calls + 300 free minutes, unlimited SMS, $7/mo.
>>
>>55009197

>proceed to completely dominate the market
>prices sky rocketing
>retardedly low datacaps are being implemented in all three ISPs at the same time (something around 20gb/month) at the end of this year
>there hasnt been a single investment in infrastructure since the 90s
Free market only works in paper.
>>

Symmetrical means download and upload?
>>
>>55009273
yep, I don't know what I'm gonna do with that much upload.
>>
>>55009221
On the flip side, the data rate isn't as impressive as the carrier I was using before that had a data cap, used to be a blistering 66Mbps, but now I get more like 5~15 depending where I am. Still enough for browsing and videos.
>>
>>55008623
Capped internet is a thing everywhere.

top kek 13€ 5GB LTE 54m/bits call/sms/mms flat

sadly only 200mbit flatdsl for 25€ i feel riped off...
>>

>>
>>55009391

But I'm not. No where are you allowed to just run up to the bandwidth capabilities of whatever medium is providing you access. Everywhere has bandwidth capping.
>>
>>55009504
sorry to tell you that m8 but here in germany you actualy get what you pay, if they say FLATRATE its a flaterate by law.

mericans sure are corporate cucks
>>
>>55009504
My ISP won't move a finger until you download shitload of TB and all they do is sending an email.
The limit is too far for anyone to reach with normal use. I can upgrade my 35€ 100Mb/s symmetrical to a 50€ 200Mb/s professional offer, with a reserved bandwidth and noone will bother me if I start downloading the entire Internet.

Germany has terrible internet, terrible censorship, and is the pioneer in copyright trolling. Automatic fines for copyright, kek.
>>
>>55009617
>Germany has terrible internet, terrible censorship
i thought it was basically that you couldn't deny the holocaust happened and you couldn't advocate nazi shit.

if you think that constitutes "terrible x 2", then watch out, because the rest of the world is just as terrible or more.
>>
It's not. Only paying $55/month for my unlimited lte too.

Amongst other things, you also can't criticise government for any refugee policy.

So because NK is shit, removing freedom of speech is okay?

I also forgot to mention but there's no cancellation fees on my plans. I can walk away as I please.

Boost has coverage in most of merika. Even in places that it doesn't people use metropcs. Only downside is it costs $5 more each month for unlimited lte.
>>
>>55008723
are you enjoying your free market yet goy?
>>
>>55009617
200mbits+ in every city lived so far, so internet speed is ok not good but ok
copyright trolling/fines welp aslong you dont torrent you never get a fine or anything like that we fileshare here bro.

>censorship
appart from gema being fucking cucks I never saw censorship.... you need to show me an german imageboard were hitler/nazi pictures doesn´t get posted every day and never did something happen.

Also you have to show me the internetforum/board were germans don´t criticise merkel and rest of the goverment for rapefugees.

what is a cancellation fee? wtf something like that exists appart for B2B?
never saw something like that in germany, also I can cancel my contract when ever I want after one month I´m out.

if you are a german fag and want cheap mobilephone contract use winsim or modeo
>>

Okay, they changed it to 1TB cap June 1st, 2016. I'm not a comcast customer so I missed the memo.

Caps are pretty common in Australia but more people are moving across to unlimited.

Until the start of this year I used to be on 80gb a month internet but now my cap is 1tb.

Hitler stuff is a felony, you know. A land-you-in-the-prison offence. Your government is trying to police criticism online. Just because you aren't disappearing, Soviet style, doesn't mean everything is fine.

He wanted to say that there is no limit( also no hidden limit) on german Internet flatrates, because the german law says a flatrate means unlimited period.

Which I can agree with, used to download/traffic 600gb-900gb per month never was a problem.
>>
>>55009842
>He wanted to say that there is no limit( also no hidden limit) on german Internet flatrates, because the german law says a flatrate means unlimited period.
Oh then he should see the second part of my post.
>>
>>55009804
Boost uses sprint networks which are heavily saturated in major cities and most of the east coast. Of course their coverage is not perfect which is why metropcs exists.
>>
>>55009831
>burgernews
yeah...no...there are like 4 cases in the whole country that got pushed by media to fuck and 2 of the get pardoned.
I still see hitler/ww2 pic posted every day on every german imageboard and nothing happened and nothing will happen.
>>
Don't Eurocucks have to pay ridiculous roaming fees?

Here with T-Mobile you get unlimited data/text/call in all of US/Canada/Mexico. Anywhere from Cancun all the way to Anchorage Alaska.
>>
>>55009761
>You're confusing throttling based on download quotas with bandwidth caps based on traffic.
Nah I'm not.

>>55009829
not in France, the only monthly cap you have is <bandwidth> * 3600 * 24 * <days in current month>.
the bandwidth can change over the day for some people, but not for me as I got 97Mb/s ALL THE TIME.
>>
Tacoland dweller here, there's no cap here but the speed is fucking awful (15 Mbps tops at low traffic hours)
A phone line and internet bandwidth cost you around $20 the most basic one (with 10 Mbps)

we talk about germany here not britshitistan.
also if you call somebody a "nigger" via socialmedia he is free to sue you for something we call rufmord(defamation). if you call him a nigger in his face its free of charge, well he gonna beat the shit out of you if you are a fuckboi but thats it.
Sorry but in germany we have something called maners something burgers don´t seem to have.
Everytime I see burgertourists their manner is the worst, they are loud, unfriendly as fuck and fucking annoying and worst of all they good no tablemanners.
It´s shocking for me when I see what burgers think they can say open and think this is acceptable because muh freedom but on the other side get fucked in the ass by the goverment and corporates. welp germany is not the breedingground for sjw and 3rd wave feminism.

In germany we don´t need to talk shit via socialmedia if you have a problem with somebody tell im that in the face and either you beat each other until one gives up(mostly kids) or talk it out like adults, thats how we handle stuff in germany.
>>
>>55010160
I lived with three other people and we'd break 1TB a month regularly in college, and this was in 2010 before Netflix streaming was huge. One guy downloaded a lot of porn, the rest of us downloaded video games and movies/TV in HD.
