So that do you guys use your GPUs for? I see loads of threads about GPUs and think of buying a high end one myself but I can't think of any use that I might have

graphics (GPU means Graphics Processing Unit)
video (protip GPU used to be called "video card", this is why")
I use mine for playing Empire Earth at minimum graphics settings in 600x800 format.
I dont understand GPU's, not that i dont understand their purpose but i dont understand how their specs relate to their performance.
Whats more important with a GPU, memory or clock speed?
If i wanted to run CSGO in 720p at 30fps with no care for graphical appearance, what would it take?
I got a nvidia 770gtx and use it for minecraft and twitch

Pick up a dirt cheap HD 7970, that'll be capable of running just about anything at a decent frame rate especially if you don't care for quality
>>55002263
Well thats obvious, but I thought I'd ask in a bit deeper (because technically all our GPUs are drawing GUIs, so there)

CPU specialises in int math
>1+1=2
This is useful for processing machine code
GPU specialises in float math
>1.1+0.9=2
This is useful for rendering virtual geometry into a set grid of pixels

I write CUDA applications.
My company buys high end GPUs which I can take home to test stuff on. Gaming is a bonus.

The minimum requirements for that game are basically "A high quality toaster"
Pretty much anything made in the last 7 years can play that game.
Even those $28 Geforce 210 "business use" cards are faster than the minimum reqs. for that game.
General rule: Spend $115 on the GPU and you'll be OK with pretty much anything for the next few years.
Sometimes it helps with the load depending on what kind of software you mess with. I mostly just use mine for gaymen, Universe Sandbox and shit

>1.1+0.9=2
1.1+0.0=2.0

0.9
>Fuck
>>55002356
Same here, except I don't even play games or watch twitch.
I'm considering selling it alongside my pc and get an i3 6100 - it has good integrated graphics which are enough for me.
>>55003575
Who are you quoting?
I use it to run a windows VM occasionally and play games
Games, drawing/painting, working with game engines
>>55003361
Will it run CRYSIS if I use this case.
>>55004517
Your computer will definitely become overpriced and temp throttling if you use that case.
Pley geimu.
>>55004530
Why?
>>55002519
There is that, but more importantly they're even better at paralleling those calculations. Because when you are transforming a frame, you don't need a single floating point multiplication, you'd have a huge matrix * huge matrix multiplication, they're good at this.

>designing garbage in CAD suites
>running bethshit games for approximately 30 minutes every six months after spending eight hours loading them with mods

Frame interpolating my Chinese cartoons to 4-5x their native frame rate. This also requires a fairly beefy cpu. Oh and gaymen.
