>>
>>54991017
Win 10 is a service.

Terms of providing a service can be changed at any time. Be it a fee or displaying ads. Already present in solitaire, that used to be free and bundled with system.

Updates are forced, so microsoft can change anything they want within their service, like adding more ads and removing the options to hide them.

If you break terms of service, by modifying the system, they are entitled to remove your access to the service.

There already exists a paid service by microsoft, like office 365 or xbox live gold, where you pay for features that could, and often are, free.

So yeah, microsoft has both means and will to do it. They won't openly admit it just yet, because they want as many people as they can to give up their windows 7/8 licenses for their new shiny service.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, if there was a free version with ads, and paid regular license that you actually own to choose from.

Not really naive. The percentage of people trying to disable telemetry or care about ads is actually low compared to whole userbase. Kinda like how low percent of 3DS/Vita users play with CFW. People managed to find away to download pirate copies of games directly from Nintendo servers and they didnt really cared enough.

I dont use Win10 yet, so I cant really say anything about how updates works here, except for that when I was setting up Win10 on my mother laptop, "Pro" version, I could easily set up "notify before downloading" in Group Policy and it worked. If this function would be provided via updates, then it could be disabled. Given that user would actually read the content of each update. MS once tried to abandon the practice of providing info about each updates, but huge negative feedback forced them to rethink this decision.

Fuck off with ebin platitude. >Terms of providing a service can be changed at any time.

Alwyas with asking user first, if he agree to the change. This applies to ALL services, giving option first, to opt out, if you dont agree with new terms.

>Updates are forced, so microsoft can change anything they want within their service, like adding more ads and removing the options to hide them.

Not truly forced, amazing how you guys often miss this part. Pro and Enterprise can disable it easy without digging in registry, Home, being castrated version of OS anyway, require more serious stepps - but does Home users really care?

Saying that they WILL do it, because they CAN, is pretty much like assuming that openSUSE or Macs will suddenly display poping ads on user desktops, because devs CAN implement that. You CAN write software and provide update turning it into something opposite. But does it have any sense?

You are just wild guessing, using as a base statement that MS is evil and all they want is their users hurt. They are fucking software selling/developing company - thats their product and how they are getting money. MS went full Apple in recent years, wanting a piece of this huge cake. They desperately try to adjust to new situation - truth to be told, often failing, as there cant be two Apple companies around.

>I wouldn't have a problem with it, if there was a free version with ads, and paid regular license that you actually own to choose from.

Actually, it is free version in case of Home/Pro - free upgrade for existing licenses. Enterprise/Edu is paid one (although, Edu is fancy named Enterprise provided for academic students and staff) and gives their users proper level of official control, as you can see by reading their own articles.

But you shouldn't have to is the point. I think Microsoft could save some face if they announce a paid version with 0 telemetry/any of this other shit. Allow people to download am ISO straight from Microsoft for $99 or whatever with no telemetry. Or, at the very least, have the telemetry all saved in one place in plain text so it could be looked at before being sent/open source the telemetry gathering stuff. It'd be tricky, but possible.

If you dont agree with terms of usage, you should stop using that service.

Can be painful sometimes, as, for example, when EU told Valve to enable selling back games bound to Steam, they instead changed terms of service to call all games in people libraries "services" instead of "games". And given that even physical copies are usually sold now as already Steam-bounded...

Not only is Windows 10 not "free", it isn't free at all.
You can obtain an OEM license for ""free"" if you upgrade from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1, and that's it. A proper retail license still costs just as much as it did for previous versions of Windows. Please stop referring to Windows 10 as being any kind of "free". It is not.

You are fucking weird, but fair enough.

W/X/P are still better than their FOSS counterparts, Onenote is gimmicky as hell but some people like it. Access is only really useful if you want to build databases (ie to be accessed with other programs, not just manually), and even then MySQL is probably better, so don't worry about uninstalling it. Not always for me, firstly i disabled "save previous searches", whenever i want to open up a program, it gives me settings panel options first, unless i type out the full program name, secondly i disabled search indexing, searches take a minute before they show up. Might as well use Win+R. But hey, im not the one fully embracing the botnet.

I should also mention that the entire point of the start menu is to be a central launching point for computer programs, not a glorified program search function.

Reason i keep them for the presets is because it saves time, I mean, why spend 30 minutes creating your own design, when you could simply spend 30 seconds choosing a preset and get your work done and over with.

My apologies, it's really hard to see since your browser and How OP's image was opened blended in and was near the start menu.

That's not a point, I don't care what's supposed to do.
It works fine my way, it's fast and reliable.

I agree about the botnet but we don't have much alternatives these days.

>The percentage of people trying to disable telemetry [...] is actually low compared to whole userbase.
This.
You guys probably think the average user is good with computers just because we live in 2016.
Well, as someone dating a 35 year old woman, I can confirm that you're bloody wrong. The average user doesn't know how to do shit. They won't disable telemetry or ads, or pretty much change any other settings, because they assume Windows 10 just werks. After all, that's what they paid good money for. Yes, paid money for, because for normies the computer and the os are one thing.

Microsoft, by making the conscious decision of having tons of spyware running by default, is exploiting millions of people who don't know any better because they trusted in the good brand name. It's almost like some sort of tourist scam where people will trust the locals and then get mugged or scammed because they were too trusting.

Even Mac is better than Windows.

>Even Mac is better than Windows.

MacOS wont run most of games, just like a lot of other software.

Out of three choices - Linux distros, Windows and MacOS, Windows is most suitable for everyday work and home usage. Most user friendly, doesnt require to buy PC with brand logo (I know about Hackintosh or how it was called, but again - we talk about everyday user), doesnt really require any knowledge to setup (nowdays, installer is so easy to use that it is hard to find a person, who would be unable to install it), "just works" and launch basically any software you would need.

For many people Windows is also not the choice but the only OS they can use. And as long as Linux development will remain fragmented (this really scare off many devs - too much variety to care about) it will probably be left that way.
