Linux is slowly moving away from GNU. It's predicted that within five years distros like Ubuntu won't have any GNU foundation, and that Clang will be the default compiler in distros like Gentoo.

What will "GNU/Linux" faggots do when all of GNU is replaced with superior alternatives?

Since Linus kernel is mono (deprecated practice), I guess Linux is what will actually be replaced in the future. GNU can run with any kernel.

GNU will remain with Hurd, dead and buried where it belongs.

My own system has been running BSD's userspace for years because GNU is such a fucking mess.

Linux predictions are always extremely optimistic. Looking at previous predictions I'd say that it will be at least another 25 years, if ever.

What exactly is wrong with GNU?

Do you really want systemd to take over the entire userland and end up with systemd/Linux?

GNU is bloated code controlled by autistic-level developers under a viral license.

This. People are overly optimistic about how quickly big changes happen in the *nix world. They will haven't merged all /usr directories, for example. Free desktop and other standards groups are pushing for it though, which is good.

Linus called the GNU kernel vaporware in like 1993/4. Looks like he was correct. Really, really correct.
>>
>>54984839
That happens when you start a OS from the userland.
And that happens for using Mach.

Nice false dichotomy.

GNU kernel was matured in 2001. You're already too late.

X11 based shit will run on hurd when people will remember X only as a bad dream

Call it BSD/Linux, of course.

You are a gigantic misinformed idiot.

- Linux itself is designed to be compiled with GCC, and this is not likely to change in the near future.
- Do you also mean ditching GLIBC and GNU Coreutils, which are, aside from various specialist and embedded distros, ubiquitous on linux? Can't see that happening either. Besides, why would you willingly switch to inferior userland tools? Even on my BSD and OSX boxes I have GNU coreutils, grep and findutils installed.
- Also, if your goal is to use as little GNU as possible, you're going to have to figure out how to build 95% of *NIX C/C++ programs without GNU Autotools.

I could go on, but this is so ridiculous on its face that I'm ashamed that I've even wasted _this_ much time debunking it.

The GNU kernel has nothing to do with X11. I don't think you even understand what is the GNU kernel. Protip: GNU Hurd is not the GNU kernel.
>>
>>54986318
No I'm really not. Until it has either a functional, realistic use for the average consumer computer, or within industry, it's essentially alpha-stage software, a distinction which plenty of vaporware achieves.

Sorry, but this isn't the 80s. We expect a little more from our operating systems.

The GNU kernel isn't vaporware or alpha, it is complete and mature. You don't understand what is GNU's kernel so you don't understand why what you've said is wrong.
