Sorry boys but nothing comes close to the original GTX200 series in appearance on the sole basis they didn't half-ass the shroud like everyone else does today, compromised design belong in the trash

The chassis COMPLETELY envelops the pcb, with a perfect black backplate, nothing exposed, just a perfect monolithic GPU

Are blower cards okay? Why are they so looked down upon? Are that bad?

There's some pretty sexy ones 2bh.
>>
>>54981022
Did I say those look good? No.

Just because it looks minimalist (the word I think you're looking for) doesn't mean it looks good. It reeks of cheap manufacturing from the plastic, faux chrome plating, to the huge led lit logo.
>>
>>54981036
Blowers actually reduce ambient temp
GPU temp is debatable, some are better, some aren't
That's probably why people dislike it
>>
Do anyone have the 3.5 fans one?
>>
>>54980992
I know. I just want to know the price and release date on the STRIX 1070, but if that isn't coming out for a while I'll pay the retard tax and get a FE because I'm thinking of moving to an ITX build.

>>54981036
It all depends. They're not popular among most of the /g/ audience because the cards themselves run hotter, so there's less overclocking potential. But they do keep the rest of your system cooler by ejecting the hot air out of the system. If your case has shitty ventilation, blower coolers are definitely better. Also if the card itself does not run very hot, then blower coolers are more viable as well.
>>
>>54980042
how's the performance? do you max out everything at 1080?
>>
>>54981074
Any specific reason you're opting for STRIX?
>>
>>54980772
Smaller transistors use less power, but they're packed denser, so the end result is harder to cool eventhough the TDP is the same.

From what we've seen, yes. But who knows, maybe the card has so much overclocking potential that a blower style cooler can't cool the card at its maximum speed. Maybe it's doesn't live up to the hype and is hot, we just don't know that much yet.

400W of power.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/powercolor-devil-13-dual-amd-r9-290x-review,3853-8.html

A single 8 pin connector is rated at 150W max

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#pciexpress8

Three might have had a small safety margin.

The reference 295x2 card is actually not in spec with its two 8 pin connector.

I defy anyone to find a better looking card than the PNY XLR8 series. Absolutely beautiful non gamer tier looking shit. No plastic, nice aluminum shroud.

The only downside is it's a custom PCB and gets zero love from EK. At least the shroud is nice enough to make me not care.

With dropping TDP I can only hope that someday my prayers will be answered and we'll get beautiful single slot GPUs again.

Now for something a little bit different: the GT 440 OEM.

Nvidia needed a place to put the bad GF106 dies, so they ended up on these cards. All of the memory channels are active, but one of the shader clusters was turned off. Neat little single slot card, although mine is a bit of a bastard to cool.
>>
>>54989919
Guy with the HD7750 above, Fermi was a rea;ly hot ass crop of gpus, I had the GT 610 and the thing maxes out at 80c with a whining fan, yet my 7750 is as quiet as a mouse and 66C max.

Well, its a bastard to cool mainly because the way its set up in my case there's nowhere for the heat to go (its in the 7th case slot at the bottom of the motherboard, and the PSU is right next to it), and on top of that this card has the voltage unlocked, so I bumped that up to get the card to 800mhz
>>
>>54982327
Is that actually from SEL or is that a copy from that neato dankweb site Mutahar went to?
>>
>>54989984
Oh, and since the fans on my case are crap, I have to run them without filters to get any decent airflow, and that results in cat fur getting sucked in, which in turn gets stuck on the heatsink past the fan.
>>
>>54989984
>Achieving 800mhz on a 40nm lithography
Nice.
>>
>>54990012
GTS 450, which uses the same chip as the 440 OEM, could get upwards of 950mhz. It overclocked really really well.

I cant go higher for 2 reasons: Card gets too hot, and I'm limited to what the slot can give me in terms of power, which is a little over 75W.

I wish my HD7740 ran better overclocked, it'll do 1GHz no sweat, but doesn't really perform any better.
>>
>>54990108
Well cant help you there. The only card I've ever had from the red team that worked was a radeon HD 4870x2, and I got rid of that because the beast ran enormously loud and hot.

That, and I was pretty sure my PSU was running near capacity feeding it and a well overclocked Q9400.

I always thought the sapphire 4870 was so cool back then, but I was 13 and still had integrated graphics and didn't know shit I might buy an old nahalem 920 and built the ultimate late 2008 gaming pc.
>>
>>54990284
Heh, you'd probably be better off either going C2Q, LGA 1156 chips, or Thuban, as LGA 1366 boards are prohibitively expensive.
>>
>>54990298
You're right, the gigabyte X58 UD5 I'd be wanting is a pricey piece, and it's not even sandy bridge.
>>
>>54982028
>not knowing about stealth GPU's
>not realizing that radio frequencies interfere with GPU performance
>>
>>54990311
Yeah, the LGA 1366 boards are pricey, and gigabyte ones moreso as their older pre-sandy bridge stuff was the shit to get. A Thuban based system should be much cheaper, and while not super-top of the line when it came out, it was a beast of a chip in its own right and could hold its own in some cases against a 920.

AMD's Thuban's a beast, a 1045t or 1090t would be a great upgrade from what i'm currently on.

Shit, accidentally linked my comment from another thread.
>>
>>54990382
Oh yeah, thats a bit of a toaster, both figuratively and literally. If your board supports it though going to 45nm LGA 775 is certainly an option especially since there's the method of making LGA 771 chips (which are better binned and can overclock to the moon) work on 775 boards.

Sadly 65nm is all I can do on this old thing, it is a beast for what it is, and I can overclock it to 2.7GHz via software.
>>
>>54990420
Oh well, looks like you're stuck with going to Thuban then.

If you want to go crazy though, its possible to overclock G34 chips with the proper board. Not extremely high, but the right setup can easily see G34 Mangy-Cours (dual-thuban processors) CPUs hitting 3.6ghz, and 2 of them would net 24 cores running at that speed. Cooling (moderate strength air cooling) and power are going to be concerns going that route, so keep that in mind.

IIRC didnt you say in an earlier thread you used your computer for video editing?
>>
>>54990480
Yes I use it for sony vegas, the HD7750 really helps there. the only gaming I do is halo PC, gta san andreas and various older games.
>>
>>54990498
Well in theory if Sony Vegas will use em, 24 cores at 3.6ghz should you go that route would beat the crap out of your Q6600 in rendering times. How well they'll stack up to the 7750 in terms of rendering remains to be seen but they should do well against it as well.

8400 GS and the fan just exploded, I attempted to contact BFG for a replacement with no luck (they died or something) so now I am attempting to use a heatsink from an old pentium 2 machine, two rubber bands and maybe a fan if I can ruberband that too, just to get this thing going again.

Why the fuck does it even have a SLI connector?
That's like glueing a piece of shit on to a piece of shit...
.
>>
>>54992971
Because it uses the same silicon as the GTS 450 (which also has SLI), just with different things turned on and off, so the hardware on-chip for SLI is already there, making it relatively cheap to just slap the finger on the PCB design.
>>
>>54992971
Because 430+430=960, didn't think of that, did you?
Think how cheap 430's are now a day's VS 960.
