I got a friend who has a phenom x6 running a 290x without a cpu bottleneck. Coincidentally, he also figured out how to rollback the windows 7 cpu management to that of Vistas. So his cpu isn't choked by w7 trying to tell the cpu how it should load it's processes.

This card is amazing, the only time it felt short was on Dark Souls III and that was because it was optimized like shit, all other games are run on max settings except v-sync, I get 50-60 fps in Witcher 3.

fermi actually outperforms the 5870 and 6970 these days, and AMD dropped support for those cards after like 1 or 2 years when they dumped the pile of dogshit that was GCN on the world. wish they had stuck with terascale, it was an actually competitive architecture.

My HD5770 finally started having VRAM issues this Spring. Six full years. Longest time I've ever had a single video card.
Started having trouble with my 560ti last year and this year. Can't run Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3, or Overwatch with acceptable settings. Time to finally upgrade.

PSU was a cheap 600W, but it's kind of recent. It's a P4 so I don't think it's because of lack of power. It's not like the computer doesn't turn on at all, it just spins all the fans full blast, lights up all lights and sits there doing that, no display. If I disconnect the GPU, it works fine.

I think the most important thing to keep in mind when buying a card for the long haul, is to get a card a notch or two more powerful than upcoming nextgen console specs. Practically everyone makes games for those specs in todays multiplatform AAA gaming market.
