Why do people waste all this time and effort creating new meme languages when their predescessors were enough?

What does sam hyde do for money?
A lot of MDE sketches look expensive as hell to produce and I'm quite sure his youtube channel isn't raking in a lot of money.
Plus, he always looks like a homeless person.

He has an adult swim show coming out.

Not even joking. Its called world peace and comes out later this month.

Why do people waste their time shitposting when they could search the archives?

Seriously, though, it is because new languages introduce new ideas. Older programming languages may tack on new ideas, but it can frequently only be done in an ugly way.

Of those you list, Rust in particular brings new type system features.

All of those languages you list try to support most of the features we expect from a modern language, but with a better implementation than other languages.

I write C++ for work every day, and you're a fucking idiot if you think we don't need a new language. Because of backwards compatibility requirements, no C++ revision will ever clean up the language syntax and semantics. Rust, on the other hand, is extremely compelling to me. I wish I could use it at work.

Nim, D, Go, etc all try to fill a pretty similar niche, in my opinion. "Stuff you'd write in C++, and might need to use C libraries with, but that garbage collection is probably fine for."

There are tons of good garbage collectors for C++ though.

Some do it because they're researchers in programming language theory, so it's an essential part of their work
Some do it for fun
Others do it strictly to pad their portfolio (see also: """"""revolutionary"""""" new JS/Ruby framework du jour that repackages concepts from 30 years ago)
