Are directory structures a meme in 2016?
Should I put all my rare pepes and other memes under ~/Pictures, instead using a tag system for organization?
Search "pepe": get all pepes
Search "meme": get all memes
~/Pictures/rare-pepe.png will stay in it's place forever, providing reliable access

the biggest issue is probably the tags being dependent on the file system
any ideas? My memes are on a mac but I want to keep them portable
Saving images is a meme in 2016. Just gis.
Just use symlinks or hard links.

With symbolic or hard links (ln on unix), a file can be in multiple locations. Just use directories as tags then.
