I used to have 8TB of disk space in aufs with custom shell scripts for downloading and sorting eztv torrents. I had an IR remote and MythTV frontend with shows and emulators and shit.
Gradually stopped using it as access to streaming and money improved, while free time to write lirc config and debug video playback issues decreased.

I bought an old C2D machine and plugged it into my TV and I have it hooked up to my network shares via wifi.
Whenever I want to watch anything, I just play it with mpv over ssh and it plays on the TV.
I can even control it over ssh because it's an interactive terminal application.
This is sooooo much nicer than running a fucking plex server + client and transcoding everything.

I don't know what that is, but streaming devices generally don't like 10-bit anime.
