Great case, I really love it. Apparently there's an issue with the front fan making a shit ton of noise and that made me unplug the fan altogether. I wonder how much it affects my Temps.

If I could go back I would want a similar case without the front fan issue and I'd get a case without the window on the side.

Current case is a Silverstone TJ08-E.

What I really want is a nice ATX case with 3x 120 or 140mm fan spots in the front, absolutely no side panel windows or vents, and absolutely no vents on the top panel (it is fine if there are optional parts, but I don't fancy extra vents). No need for room for more drives than 2 or 3. I have a server for storage, so an SSD for software I use often, and an HDD for games is fine. A case with room for 10 drives just looks silly to me, and I don't like the empty space left when you remove the drive cages.

Bonus points for being not-black.

The front panel should be made out of the same materials as the rest of the case.

There are some cases that come close, but many have non-optional parts like windows or vents.

I really like those new miniITX cases like the M1 and A4-SFX, but I would prefer ATX now after having used mATX for a while. Having the ability to add extra controllers, or different cards for VT-d seems convenient, even tho I'll probably only need nothing more than a graphics card most of the time.

What you're looking for is a Thin mITX computer.

http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Aluminum-Mini-ITX-Center-PT13B/dp/B00DL4BMMC?ie=UTF8&keywords=thin%20mitx%20case&qid=1465273631&ref_=sr_1_sc_1&sr=8-1-spell

Silverstone's Thin mini-ITX case is slightly smaller than a Mac Mini.

You can actually get a normal desktop CPU in it, like a Broadwell CPU with an Iris Pro (because it has 128 MB of eDRAM for the GPU), or even Skylake. Silverstone of course has a super low profile CPU cooler for it as well.

These do not support normal mITX boards. They must be thin mini-ITX boards.
>>
>>54952517
>>54953207
I should add that there are AMD boards that conform to the thin mini-ITX form factor.

For instance the ECS A78F2-TI.

But they seem to be far less common.

I know Watercooling is a meme but my next build is a vanity project, and I want to use it to enlarge my e-peen.
>>
>>54953857
I'm looking at downsizing and doing the opposite, tiny ass case with good specs. I have a fullsize atx mobo in the RV02 currently though so changing would mean i'd need a new mobo anyway, and finding a micro atx mobo for a 2500k is a pain in the ass

The way my table/room is set up, that would be the optimal placement, but I'm not really sure it's a good idea.

Are there any significant downsides to something like that?

There are ITX cases and small form factor PCs that fit onto VESA mounts or are integrated into a monitor stands. Looks retarded, but saves space.
>>
>>54959490
Cool, didn't know about that.

My problem isn't really about saving space, but mostly that having it in every other place would be awkward and worse than putting it under the monitor.

Also my monitor is currently on a pile of phonebooks so it's at a good height. Putting the computer there would kill two birds with one stone.

Currently waiting for CaseLabs Mercury S8 to be back in stock for the QuickShip variety. Expensive, but worth it. CaseLabs make some of the best cases in the market.

Oh, their new Bullet cases are a bit less pricey but still high quality. If you want small form factor for just about everything, including ATX, the Bullet line is the way to go if you can handle around $200 or so.

The Mercury I want is around $450 for comparison, and some of their cases easily hit $600-700+, plus certain upgrades. I'm waiting to buy an ultra behemoth until "Gemini" arrives.

What i would like to have..

Smaller mATX case with 2-3x 140mm front intake fans (depends on the height of case, no CD-rom ports on it, just pure fans in the front)
2 ssd slots on the back behind motheboard
4+ 3.5" slots double mounted on the side like the define S, but on both sides of the rail

Built like a brick so it wont rattle obviously

Maybe a side and bottom fan, and top fan slots too for those water cooling guys.

It is pretty ugly, but I got it on sale for pretty cheap, and it has a few things going for it:

1. It's huge, which makes it easier to manage, no problem fitting components, etc
2. Lends itself easily to water cooling, including tube holes on the back and mount points for a radiator on the top (which I use)
3. Removable disk plates with a hotswap backplane
4. Good cable management features
5. Disco lights

I got it cause I wanted a big case with hotswap port on top(literally no reason, just a feature I really wanted at the time), and it was cheaper than alternatives.

Its not a bad case, but my meme cooler is too big and I had to take one of the side fans off for the case to close, which makes the side panel look retarded with two fan holes and only one LED fan.

Looking for something that feels a bit higher end. I'd like to keep LEDs for ASTHETIC but I really just want a more metal feeling case. The plastic casing on the front and top isn't doing it for me anymore.

It should be fine, I just found the cryorig C7 in my Ncase on my 3570K @ 4.1 to be too noisy for my tastes, I could hear it over the refernce 980.
In the A4 I expect it would do a better job cooling the CPU since it would have actual fresh air, and therefore wouldn't have to work as hard.
Right now I'm debating if I'm going to build into the A4 immidiately, or just hold onto it for a while until I find just the right parts.
It's also worth noting that I go full autism over the noise my PC makes, most people would be fine with noise levels I find completely unacceptable.

So long as you don't OC I'm pretty sure you'll be fine, as my Ncase is now (>>54968134) it's acceptably quiet by my standards, though I'm pretty sure the M9i's fan has a buzz/click at low RPM so I'm going to replace it.

Pic related was my ultimate endgame for silence, I was running the 750ti in it passive under a Alpenfohn Peter II, the Seasonic X650 rarely turned on it's fan, and the Noctua cooler's fans were turned down so low they were inaudible.
So under 100% load you could only kind of hear it if you had your head inside the case.

In that picture I just hadn't bothered to flip the fans around from when I had the ATX PSU and 750ti.
But I guess the airflow then would be
>intake through rear
>through CPU heatsink
>PSU pulls some air in and exhausts it

When there was an ATX PSU the fans were intake through rear, run through heatsink, push into PSU for exhaust through top.
>>
>>54968609
oh cool. I've thought about doing a reverse airflow build, but I wouldn't have even considered using the PSU as the only exhaust. You're obviously getting decent temps and noise levels with that arrangment though, yeah? Is there an open vent on the bottom of that case so the GPU can intake as well?

With the 750ti/ ATX PSU setup I was getting 80C on the GPU (Passive though, no fans on it at all), and I think the CPU never got over 65C?
Currently with conventional airflow/ Cryorig M9i/ 980 The GPU hits ~82C (normal for this card/ cooler) and my CPU never goes above 65C.
The bottom of the case is made of holes, fans can be mounted if you want.

I found a main board I like that's mitx. Not really any other reason. It's the gigabyte ga-h170n-wifi. Everything I need and nothing I don't.

Otherwise, I'd consider an matx board, but really I just want a smaller case. I've been dealing with a CM Storm for a few years (bought somebody's old cannablized rig on craigslist for a song and replaced a few parts), and I fucking hate this case. It's a bit too gamer, it's got a dumbass window. It has a handle and it's way too big. A matx or mitx case will fit my tiny apartment and my personal aesthetic much better, but I don't really need to go as tiny as humanly possible. Just smaller than this behemoth.

p.s. how's cable management in that thing? Yours looks clean enough. Pain in the ass to get it looking tidy?
>>
>>54969163
Ah, ok cool.
cable management was pretty easy, lots of room next to behind the PSU up top, and enough room behind the motherboard tray.
Big CPU backplate cutout that I fan some cables through when I had my ITX stuff in it temporarily.
I definitely recommend it, the only reason I left it is the same reason I might be leaving the M1, to go smaller.

You can kind of see my cable management in my build video: https://youtu.be/HAN9HFOtN1Q
>>
>>54969258
That actually looks like it was kind of a pain. Why didn't you go for a smaller PSU (actual size, not wattage)? Seems like it would have simplified things a lot if you had another 3 or 4 cm behind it.

NCase M1 is better but it's probably not $120 better for most people. If your budget is not in the four digit range, you have absolutely no business even considering it when the Nano S is around (and also many other fine ITX cases for <$100).

Also their "pre-order" is really just a three week lead time (they are small time custom stuff). They're legit, they've always delivered and have tons of transparency on the process.

Why not use a monitor arm or something instead of the usual stand+base plate?

Then something like a Node 202 should be fine since the top won't be covered.

Or look at HTPC cases from Silverstone and the like? There's some decent full-size options then if ITX kit like a Node 202 doesn't have the space. There's some that take multiple full-height cards, big coolers and have side vents with fans too.
