Why can't we have one cable for data, charging, internet, devices input and video?
>>54946835
What is Thunderbolt 3
Why can't we have all these things wirelessly?
why don't we connect computers directly
like
back to back
a "cable" made out of computers!
It's called USB Type-C
>>54946850
Because anything wireless sucks
>>54946883
>>54946843
So in 5 years my router has no ethernet ports but usb type-c or thunderbolt 3 ports?
>>54946850
This. Everything should be wireless. Wires are SHIT.
Power is 100% able to be wireless, we do not need all these fucking power cables everywhere and in-wall wiring (which is a major fire hazard BTW). Wireless power would be 1. More Convenient, everything could be powered and charging whenever and wherever all the time. 2. Safer. Wires are fire hazards. 3. Wireless power would be cheaper as there's no need for so much wiring infrastructure and shit.
TLDR Tesla was RIGHT
>>54946906
>sent from my iPhone
>>54946835
Thunderbolt and USB type c will fill this niche. Firewire attempted to fill this niche but failed miserably because it was firewire. Still have a prosumer camcorder somewhere from back when tape was still a thing.
>>54946924
Wireless charging wastes a fuckton of power due to heat. It's incredibly inefficient.
>>54946924
>says wires are a housefire hazard
>advocates wireless charging
Some men just want to watch the world burn.
>>54946850
Because interference, wireless signals are not magic, they are waves than interfere with each other.
>>54946835
Because then I have to plug something that provides data, charging, internet, input devices and video into my computer.
I'd rather have separate plugs.
>>54946919
USB Type-C AND Thunderbolt 3
They can be the same port, you know.
It will be nice in a few years when USB-C/TB is the primary connector used. It will be awesome for laptops. Give me a laptop with 3 USB-C on each side and I will be in connection heaven
>>54947000
>Thunderbolt and USB type c will fill this niche.
Niche? It's not a niche, if it gets widely adapted, it will basically replace all ports there are. That's the opposite of niche.
>>54947218
Very true. It's late and my brain is shutting down from this heat, apologies anon.
>>54946926
You know what he meant, retard.
>>54946835
What is USB C?
>>54947493
It's a direct connection to the NSA botnet mainframe.
>tfw your mobo has 2 thunderbolt 3 ports
Everything's coming up aces.
>>54948505
What board is this? I was looking for a good ITX board with Thunderbolt 3 ports.
>>54948505
>Those ports
All it needs is a displayport.
>>54948524
>ITX
Sorry to disappoint. Gigabyte Z170X UD5 TH, ATX.
>>54948535
Why?
>>54948540
Oh, I was thinking that pic related pictures the entire board. Haven't found an ITX board with Thunderbolt 3 yet.
>>54947000
But firewire has edgy name. How come it failed?
>>54948604
Intel asked way too much for the license and there was little need for it, so it never took off besides on Apple computers because they pandered alot more to music producers back then and Firewire audio interfaces are still alot better than about any USB-interface.
>>54947147
Actually they aren't. Well usb c is compatible with usb 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 controllers. The usb c standard isn't the same controller as the thunderbolt 3 controller.
Idk ask intel.
Is it possible to boot from thunderbolt 3 device?
>>54948734
Not the same controller, still the same port.
>>54948795
You can already boot from USB. So yes, of course.
>>54948734
>Third-generation Thunderbolt won’t just be faster than USB 3.0 or USB 3.1, it’ll offer all of its performance over a reversible USB-C plug.
>Thunderbolt 3, aka Alpine Ridge, accomplishes this by integrating a USB 3.1 Gen 2 controller directly on-platform, neatly bypassing the entire “Should I use Thunderbolt 3 or USB” argument altogether.
>>54946850
Do you want to get cancer? Because THAT'S how you get cancer.
>>54948552
But then I lose the thunderbolt port.
>>54950445
There's some really dope Thunderbolt hubs out there. Turn one Thunderbolt in 2 DP, 4 USB C, adds 2 inches to your dick, cures cancer, and they've got a Thunderbolt on the hub in case you want to chain something else in there shit nigga sky is the limit.
>>54946835
You mean USB?
Why can't I buy an enormous mousepad the size of my desk that powers a wireless mouse and keyboard like a Wacom tablet?
Why can't OP ever make a good thread?
>people advocating intel thunderbolt
>proprietary port
>advocating more ways to fuck amd
>wanting an intel monopoly
this is no longer /g/,but the capitalist consumer
>>54946835
>what is electromagnetic interference
>>54950699
Why don't you tell us what you think it is and why you think it would be an issue.
I bet you elevate your audio cables on little stands to get better sound quality.
>>54950695
Well maybe AMD should actually provide competitive alternatives.
>>54950725
>what is a rhetorical question
nigga, you ever heard of wikipedia?
>>54950727
They already have. Before the latest Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 were even a thing.
DockPort is an extension to the VESA DisplayPort standard. It supports multiple high bandwidth devices to be utilized concurrently over one connector. Daisy chaining displays, external storage, charging mobile devices, and connecting peripherals can all be done over the single connector thanks to a tiny logic chip created by HSA foundation member and partner Texas Instruments.
Ever wonder why USB 3.0 touted the ability to charge devices with up to 100w of power? Its because DockPort did it first, and they were trying to keep up with parity.
>>54947169
The 2016 MBP is going to have 4 USB-C ports according to rumors. Close to your connection heaven.
>macbook
>>54950796
Alright, that's a good alternative to Thunderbolt 2. Now show me something on par with 3 and maybe I'll get an AM4+ mobo with DockPort.
>>54950869
Thunderbolt 3 barely, just barely surpasses it in peak bandwidth.
>>54950796
I don't support Jewtel but this is probably the first time I've heard of DockPort. Hard to imagine it getting popular.
>>54948505
>>tfw your mobo has 2 thunderbolt 3 ports
mfw my mobo has only 2 thunderbolt3 ports, knowing that in just 4 years from now I'll probably need at least 6 thunderbolt3 ports.
>>54950790
Okay you get one more (You) out of me then I'm cutting you off.
1. I didn't answer or even attempt to answer your question so acting like I didn't know it was rhetorical is fucking asinine.
2. My question on the other hand wasn't rhetorical and you didn't answer it.
3. "I'm not here to do your research for you" is the second most obvious way of saying "I know I'm wrong but I'm going to be a difficult child about it" right up there behind "I was only pretending to be retarded."
>>54950951
I seriously hope no horrible fate befalls me that I am forced to continue using the same CPU for 4 years.
>>54951407
Jewtel has not made any major changes since the introduction of Core i-series
Explain to an idiot
Thunderbolt 3 is a feature of USB C right? There isn't a separate port or cable?
>>54951452
Thunderbolt 3 can be implemented behind the USB type C connector.
>>54951473
what happens if I plug a thunderbolt cable into a usb port or vice versa?
>>54951452
