FX-9590-635x550.jpg
48 KB, 635x550
Building my first pc from scratch instead of frankensteining a few old ones like I usually do. The build is set, so far, to include:

AMD FX-9590
Noctua NH-D14
ASRock 990FX Pro Motherboard
PNY Anarchy 16gb
Cooler Master HAF 912 usb 3.0 case
thermal take TR2 600W ATX power supply

Any thoughts/suggestions on these parts?

Did you even check any reviews about it you fucking retard? Why do you expect us to spoonfeed you, do the slightest bit of research on the parts you're gonna buy then come ask if it's decent, you'll understand why I said that if you did a tiny bit of research.

He'll be better off buying a cheaper i5 4690k and you'll get way better overclock results.
>>
>>54929881
Didn't say that. I've had no issues with them ever is the point. The reviews I've read said if you cool it correctly it'll work just fine. I've had issues whenever I bought an intel based pc.
>>

you can get 4.7ghz with them easy, why do you want more? also skylake is great and runs cool

My other thoughts was the FX-8350. I'd rather stick with AMD, also, because I have a compatible mb sitting around.

"Despite all of these extra considerations—motherboard, cooling equipment, and a separate graphics card—many builders will find the AMD FX-9590 to be a capable processor that offers potent performance. If you have the hardware to tame this beast, it offers a fantastic amount of power for a very affordable price."

>>
the amount of intel shilling in this tread is abomniable

The FX-9590 is arguably one of the most powerful home processors you can get, and the price hovers around that of a 4690/6600k.

What separates 9590 from the rest is that it's got 8 cores and is a multi-threading beasts which should be a considerable advantage especially with as newer and newer apps seem to favour multi-core cpus.

I'd go for water cooling if I were you but that noctua is a good choice as well.

Thermalteke 600w is a shitty PSu for a 9590. I'd go for at least a corsair rm750i, especially if you're planning to buy a gpu later on.
>>
>>54929947
the 8350 is fine, overclock it a bit as well and you're good

>>54930037
lmao.
>>
>>54930037
Stop spreading misinformation. Yes, the 9590, and any other 8-core AMD processor has great multithreaded performance, but falls far behind in non-multithreaded applications. Furthermore, claiming it's one of the most powerful processors you can get in a desktop format simply isn't true anymore since it's eclipsed in single core and multi-core tasks by processors on the LGA2011 platform.

>FX-9590

no no no! Prior fx-9370 owner here. The 9370/9590 are literally the EXACT SAME chip as the fx-8320/8350. If anything an 8320e or 8370e can be had for $50 less than the 9590, use less energy, (95w tdp vs 125w/220w for the 9590). Not to mention that motherboard compatibility. The 9590 will only work in 4 different motherboard without killing the motherboard in 2 months because of VRM Stress. These are
>Asus 990FX Sabertooth
>Asus ROG Crosshair V
>Asrock 990FX Extreme 9
>Gigabyte 990FX UD7.

Gigabyte boards for AMD are hot garbage with constant BIOS issues. The EXT9 from Asrock is hard to come by. The Asus sabertooth and Crosshair V are still in the nieghborhood of $200 for an outdated chipset, with only pcie 2.0, no m.2, etc.

You can spend $100 on an FX-8320e and $100 on a good 990FX board that has newer everything. Plus the 8320e can be overclocked to 4.5ghz+ easily on a half way decent cooler. Unless you're doing custom water cooling for the 9590, don't fucking bother. I had my fx-9370 up to 5.5ghz under a custom water loop. It has a handful to say the least. Pulled close to 400w at the wall all by itself while encoding video.

If you MUST go AMD, please by all of the gods wait for Zen. See how that is. Supposedly AM4 socket and Zen is going to be AMD's comeback. The shit that gets Intel to actually try competing again. Seriously all stupid memes and jokes aside, unless you're looking to spend under a tighter budget, don't buy AMD top end CPU. You'll regret your purchase.
>>
>>54929783
220W TDP. You're paying more to buy a product with barely more power than an 8350, which is going to cost you almost double in power bills.

Hmm, when the FX series came out I used a 6350 for years, never run over 60C at full load with a cheap AIO.

Explain please?
>>
>>54932034
>Never over 60C
>Like that's a good thing

AMD chips are supposed to top out at 60C. As in that is the highest they're supposed to go before potential damage can occur. If you AiO is letting it even get close to that high, you might want to consider a new cooler.
>>
>>54932061
70 degrees actually, not 60.
>>
>>54932061
I don't have it anymore, as I said it never went over 60C at full load, aka stress test, real world application was never close to 60C.
>>
>>54932061
They're fine at 60C.
>>
>>54932080
sorry I meant 60 was usually the cut off for "safe" 24/7 temps. It's 62C to be exact. My fx-9370 would hit 61C under Primre95 testing after 3 hours at 5.5ghz.
>>54932081
oh ok that makes it different. Stress testing is a different animal. Just thought you were one of those new builders "but guys it's only idling at 51C, why should I be worried?"
>>
>>54932105
My i7 870 idles around 45 and goes up to the low 70s/high 80s under stress test, at 4.2 ghz.

I should probably get a better cooler.
>>
>>54932284
intel chips can go to around 87C before I'd start worrying. They're on a different scale than AMD. AMD shouldnt see past 70C as the one anon said, but intel is around the 90C mark. Even so you should get a better cooler.
>>
>>54932105
How much voltage did you have to pump into that thing to get to 5.5? Best I've been able to get out of my 9590 is 5.3 at 1.575 on the vcore. Runs too hot even with my custom loop to actually do anything aside from a couple of quick benchmarks.

These are fucking stupid procs but I actually enjoy them. I like tinkering with OC settings and shit.
>>
>>54932327
1.75v to get 5.5ghz stable. Had a 360mm and 240mm radiator loop cooling it and gtx 670's. The 670's used to go up 10C at idle while doing anything CPU intensive. I eventually ended up retiring my 9370 because I destroyed a sabertooth motherboard. Had to pop the CMOS battery after a storm because it wouldn't boot. Re-applied my overclock but forgot to re-enable load line calibration. It voltage boosted to 2.0+v and popped a VRM.
>>
>>54932375
Yeah that's a ton of voltage. I'm running just a 360mm rad.

>>
>>54932582
yea that was my thought too when I was standing in Microcenter to get another Sabertooth 990FX board. I was holding that $200 board and saw they were having a big sale.

Ended up paying $250 at the door for a brand new i5-4690k ($150) and kick ass Z97 board for $120 (originally $160 but get $40 with bundle deal). This included 2 year warranties.

>But man oh man dem blu-ray encoding times bruh.
>>
>>54932582
Because I can. I have a 4770k system I use for everyday shit.

The AMD system is something to fuck around with and not give a shit if it blows up.
>>
AMD fucked up big time in the high-end cpu department.

Intel has gone through like, what, three different generations while (Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake) while OP amd fan is considers going with a housefire chip from 4 years back?

They need to pull it together and show something with that zen.
>>
>>54929622

My i7-940 from 2009 handles anything from rendering to CPU-intensive games like Arma 3 without even getting near 100%, not sure why people act like the latest AMD processors with far better specs won't even boot a computer properly. That being said, you might aswell wait for Zen at this point unless you need a computer right now.
>>
don't be silly, wait for polaris and zen, they're literally a couple months away

If it's for gaming save a bit of dough and just fx6350 it.

Higher end CPU gives like 5 extra fps, putting money toward better video card instead gives 30 better fps

If your you're doing something that actually would benefit from the difference between 6350 and 9590 then buy Intel, they are literally twice the speed at this point
