>>
>>54930075 see >>54930095.

"good pc" What is your use case? That's like going into the grocery store and asking a store clerk "I need a good food."

-Web browsing / media watching / maybe browser games at the most? yeah, $400 you can pull it off.

-Gaming? You'll have to be extremely selective of parts. Something like a haswell i3 and used gtx 750ti could do it for you, with a 400 watt power supply and cheap AF case. Going up to $500 gives you more breathing room. Also keep in mind, a Windows licence is roughly $100.

no. I'm going to use pounds but the use market doesn't know what an exchange rate is so it should work

Get a used 7870, they're cheap at like £60
get a bulldozer and motherboard bundle, if you can get it sub >£100 (get sandy instead if it's cheap enough).
get 8gb of the cheapest ram possible
get a 500/600b, they're cheap and good
get the cheapest case on ebay possible.
you can get a 1tb drive for £20 in the UK, dunno if its the same in the US

GPU: £70
PSU: £30
CPU and MoBo: £100
Case: £10
Ram: £25
Drive: £20

£255 in total. Easy

When I see a build like this it makes me want to go back to air. So pure, simple, functional, and clean. I got the EK Monarchs for their look, really. If my motherboard had better heatsink compatibility, I'd likely go back to air. Also, if I didn't need a regular HDD. Something like EVGA's ACX 3.0 or whatever is it would look excellent in the case.

I'm torn on if I like the ACX3.0, G1 Gaming, or STRIX more.
The EVGA has that HUGE nameplate, gigabyte is very plain which is good and bad (my opinion), and the strix has that RGB lighting which could be tinkered with to be really neat.

well integrated GPUs are so much better than they use to be, so not really unless you need more monitor support.

Other than that, only the NEWEST cards - offer VP9 decode acceleration and h.265.

The foam is something that I'm trying out, It's mainly for dampening everywhere where there are fans. Helps with the sound and vibration, then again I do not care how bad it looks inside as long as it gets the job done.

Another pic related, in a very archaic manner I isolated the two 12 cm fan holes on the side door with foam to help creating a decent wind tunnel from the front to back and help reduce the noise a bit more.

Also raised considerably the top front fan so the upper half of the case can have a decent airflow as well. Since doing this I got temperatures as low as 43ºc on the GPU (not on load obviously) to the point of its fan always being off by itself until it is actually on load.

Has anyone else ghetto rigged their shit? I've cut open power supply cables and taped them to a side case fan with electrical tape.

The fan itself is attached to the side case with 2 screws and a military bootstrap.

I also once attached a CPU heatsink to an old graphics card with rubber bands, but they snapped and the chip popped.

Just finished popping in my second 980Ti. Runs great but loud, I gotta replace the SP fans I added to the case with AF ones and hopefully it'll quiet down.

Also for anyone with a Corsair h80i GT does anyone have issues with temperatures rising and lowering between 28 - 41 C in the span of a couple seconds? It never idles at a specific temperature. Its not the thermal paste application as I replaced it because I thought that was the cause and its still occuring. I also doubt its the radiator as I've put in SP120 High Performance fans and even drastically increased the airflow of my case.
>>
Should I get phanteks evolv regular or the one with tempered glass? Both ATX.
>>
>>54949193
Maybe you should just try something other than corsair.
Like NB Eloops or something.
Replacing fans designed for radiator use with fans designed to be run with very little restriction is retarded.

Alternatively you could just try running the SP120s slower.

Tempered glass is prettier.

So I got round to doing as one of you lot mentioned and changing the fans around so it'd be a lot easier to make it all neat.
I also routed the molex cable better, hid the fan cables behind the HDD area, mounted the res/pump combo properly (took a bit of work but worth it).

Haven't got the greatest quality picture right now, but I'll update it soon. I'm happy with the improvements I've made regardless.

Ah.
Well, you can take some time to bundle them with velcro ties and get them in the cleanest positions you can.

Here's a picture of my first build.

To be fair some of the cables are hiding behind that 3.5" bay, but most the cables are in that main trunk or run together on the floor of the case.

Thanks anon, here is what it looked like with the 290x installed. When the block comes in i'm gonna make some other changes. Gonna move the pump to the back side of the case via bulkhead fittings. I've never had an issue with Performance PCs. My orders have always shipped in a business day or two. If you're super impatient, you can always pay the extra however much to make yours a priority order and bump it to the top of the fulfillment list. Come to think of it, that may be what's delaying your order. With so many people jumping on the 1080, I'm sure at least some of them have made priority orders.

Sorry I hadn't done an update picture sooner, been busy.
Here's an updated picture with better quality.
Something else I forgot to mention; I managed to configure the fans to all very, very nice levels so I can hardly hear them normally and before they REALLY ramp up, the backside fan turns on to pull in more air for the top radiator to use.
Originally I had it to exhaust, but then I thought about it and realised it makes no sense to exhaust it, I want as much cold air being pulled in as possible and let the radiator do its job.

Considering I made my i7 4790k hit 4.7Ghz completely stable (46x 102) I reckon I could probably push it to 4.75 - 4.8 perhaps.

I like the lack of cages as well. So far I'm on air, but with the stock fans and my cpu cooler I get like 4,4ghz on 4690 easy. This is my IDLE i7 temp.

I literally just cleaned out my stock fan and it's fully clean.
What do?
Also the fan in my case doesn't seem to be powered even though it's plugged in to the motherboard?

Post pics of fan plugged into motherboard.

It's a 3 pin connector.
>>
1. Try plugging it into another fan header on the motherboard.
2. Plug in a known working fan into that header.

That will help you determine if you have a bad fan or bad fan header.

Also, your shit's dusty as fuck. Try applying new thermal compound to the heatsink on your CPU. Those shitty plastic stock heatsinks are notorious for coming loose, make sure it's firmly seated.
>>
>>54985622
Can I plug it into a 4 pin one?
>>
>>54985666
Yeah, but without the benefit of PWM control. The fan will run at full speed constantly. Great for cooling, bad for noise control.
>>
>>54985706
Hmm it does move.
Very slowly then stops etc.

I think the shaft is clogged with dirt or something.
And I can't get it out to clean as it's a sealed one.

Tough luck m8. You can find a new one for as little as $4 USD online, maybe cheaper.

Yeah thinking of getting a new case fan, new thermal paste as mine is literally dust and an pressurised aircan
>>
>>54951123
anon you can make a nice looking build with this case at that price point of 40 dollars for the case see >>54943199

Not pictured is the USB 3.1/ USB C pcie card I bought. Gigabyte brand. Was $20 new at microcenter. Also built a dedicated encoding server for my Blu-ray rips, turning .wav to FLAC, etc.

>get an atx board to start.
Why? It's a waste of money unless he NEEDS the extra expansion slots.
>>
>>54985926
Thanks.
Should I install a proper cpu cooler whilst it's in the case?

I don't feel like taking everything out.
>>
>>54986098
then if hes going with a smaller board get an appropriate case quite simple
>>
>>54986109
I'd recommend doing so. Check out frostytech if you need ideas.

Thermal cleaner is a meme, rubbing alcohol does the job just as well and is cheaper. If you find yourself buying a lot of canned air, consider investing in an electric duster.

Good luck anon.

Well, I've used that canned air a few times and it's great

That's autism, not common sense. Mid towers can be priced similarly yet have the added benefits of providing more internal space, better air flow, and better cable management.

What do you think about this build?

This is gonna be my first desktop PC I'm gonna buy since the Intel P4 days. I rarely played any vidya games, so I just managed with a laptop.

I will add in a RX480 when they are out and been properly benchmarked and reviewed

Will mainly be using for devs and developing Android and iOS apps, webdevel, and to play Dota 2, Overwatch and occasionally play some single player games like Skyram, Mirror's Edge and what not.

Also taking recommendations for a monitor, prefering 1080p/1440p, 144Hz 1ms in the range 21"-24"
>>
>>54942202
wait... why are you using a DVD for a CPU fan?
>>
>>54986457
Its fine. Great choice in case. I'd highly highly recommend an ssd though. Samsung 850EVO or crucial MX200 line. 250gb range. 120gb ssds aren't worth the money now. And consider investing in faster ram. Ddr3 goes up to 2400mhz. There are good ddr4 - 3200mhz kits out there for like $5-$10 more than you have now. For gaming, ram speeds offer marginal increase but for compiling, encoding, etc, the faster ram will be appreciated. I've seen people get their ram to 4200mhz on the z170 platform with just a little voltage bump.
