I'm really sorry, I know how you feel about tech support threads but I need some help.
>one day hit pc power switch
>black screen with flashing cursor
>obviously BIOS forgot what to do
>leave it sit for 17 hours and some change
>come back from work and it's on
>use PC cautiously
next day
>secondary drive with all my games no longer recognized
>restart pc, boots like normal
>30 minutes later, secondary drive no longer recognized
>restart again
>wants to chkdsk
>nah fuck that
>pull the plug
Hard drive had no clicking and it's only 2 years old. Pretty sure it's not fucked but who knows until it can check it.
Now, with the drive pulled, the pc is booting instantaneously (win10) like faster than i've ever seen it in my 7 years of owning it.
Is my MOBO on it's last legs guys?
Thank you for bearing with me.
Fuck off
1) Fuck off
2) It's the drive
Thanks

I give you some advice, because I thought your image was of a belly button with a piece of beef in it for some reason.
Things to check:
The cables connecting the drive.
The ports the cable is attached to.
The hard drive control board. ( look for blisters, burns, or rust)
Your BIOS. Check to make sure your clock is correct, if not your cmos battery is dead and you need to re apply your BIOS settings. ( i doubt this is the case though )
Hope that helps.

>hey guys, my PC suddenly started acting funny the other day
>it takes forever to start, like it might be trying to read bad sectors from a bad drive or something
>I took the drive out, and now it boots really fast, as if there are no bad drives in it
>what could be the problem?
>>54927320
But why would a bad drive with literally no essential software on it cause a failure to boot?
>>54927373
Because the pc has to search it and it hangs up because of the bad sectors? Your pc doesnt know non essentail software is on it dumbass.
>>54927455
>Because the pc has to search it
Why would that prevent BIOS from functioning?
It didn't boot because BIOS never loaded up, not that it was looking for the MBR.
>>54926163
sleep tight, pupper
>>54927492
The BIOS still has the check the drive for boot sectors.
If your BIOS has the option you might be able to set it to ignore that drive on boot.

>The BIOS still has the check the drive for boot sectors.
no m8, I understand that but what i'm saying is BIOS was literally nonfunctional. BIOS did not boot itself whatsoever. Unless i'm mistaken, BIOS runs off the MOBO.
>>54927557
It does, but the BIOS is in charge of the Power On Self Test which does a quick check of all the hardware in the computer. If something doesn't work, it fails POST and typically generates a brief error message. It is the same thing if you don't plug the power cables into your GPU and try to boot up, they system won't pass POST so the BIOS doesn't come up to prevent damage to the system.
