it's about time for my full system reinstall.
i'm planning to wipe and reinstall windows 7, but seeing as 10 is "free" I was considering it hoping it might have a little less overhead.
however, everything i read says it's cancer and does all kinds of fuckshit.

8.1 runs much faster than 7 just based on the fact that the DE on 8.1 uses way less resources than aero. You could use the classic theme on 7, but it's buggy and looks like dog shit.

Let me tell you from my expirence.
Before I don't want to upgrade to 10 because I'm unsure if 10 is reliable enough.
But on fucking day it suddently upgrading from 7 to 10. It feel like getting raping.
After got upgraded to 10, I trying it out for severals days. It seems to work real fine until today I can't no longer type on Search or internet browser like Edge or Firefox stop responding after typing on it.
I tried to solve the problems by pasting code on command prompt but it don't work at all.
It lead to downgraded back to Win 7. Win 7 may be slower than 10 but it is more reliable.
