What will you do in 2020 when support for Windows 7 ends?
>>
install gentoo
>>
2020 will be year of Linux on the desktop.

Like XP, still using it. I don't do any updates anyways.

Enjoy the latest Windows 11 update.

Jokes on you faggot, I'm still using Windows ME.

keep using 7

This desu

They want to be like Apple and release 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, ...
>>
>>54921935

Continue on with Windows 10 like I currently do unless linux gets up to par with gaming.
>>
>>54922262
We can hope.
>>
>>54922559
What's the reason you're not using Windows 7 for gaming? It doesn't have telemetry, DX12 isn't even out yet... So, why would you use Windows 10?
>>
>>54922559
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>/vee/

Still use win7

>hurrdurr no support
What the fuck do you need it for
>>
>>54921935
I'm already on Windows 10, so I don't give a shit. You faggots can sweat it out amongst yourselves.

Continue using XP
>>
Jack off and eat some pizza rolls.

So, today.
>>
>>54921935
I'll install gentoo
>>
>>54922819
But why? I would understand if DX12 is available, but it's still in development...
>>
>>54921935
I use 8.1 so no issues there. When does support for that end? I like that it doesn't come with a INSTALL WINDOWS 10 pop up. Probably because it's already filled to the top with botnet.
>>
>>54921935
Raise a glass to the glorious dead.

Lest we forget.
>>
>>54921935
in 2020, intent to use Windows7 will be a level 5 thought-crime.
>>
>>54921935

I will keep using Widows 7, of course, what else? (;
>>
>>54921935
I already have installed Debian with XFCE on my Notebook to test Linux. And i really really like it. I know it sounds meme but it feels a lot faster, stable and more efficent. When the Support for Windows 7 pro drops I will completely migrate.
I also will Install a *buntu on my parents PC.
>>
Continue using 8.1

I started doing this also, because fuck having to go through a dozen updates every month to see which ones botnet me some more and which are actual security updates. Which reminds me, anyone know how to manually update the MSE client with updates turned off? (I mean the client version, not virus definitions, obviously.) I was going to start a thread or try the SQT but I figure I'll ask here in case anyone knows.

continue using XP as i have since 2003

i'm neither a pedo nor a terrorist, so i'll just keep using the latest windows in 2020. now that windows has bash there's no reason to use linux unless you have something to hide.

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
>>
>>54921935
At that point I'll likely be running a full Linux desktop without dualbooting with Windows, either due to hardware advancing to the point where I can run the games that I want in Wine (due to me giving up on new games) or due to me building a separate computer for gaymen only running whatever version of Winblows works best for the games I want due to companies not supporting their newer hardware on Windows 7 (really unlikely at this rate as the newest games I own are from 2012, but there's still a couple new ones I'm hoping are good).
>>
I can't switch to linux. None of my wifi adapters have drivers that will work on it and because I live in canada there are only like two brands available to me and neither of them sell adapters that don't need some special snowflake driver and piece of shit software that only works on windows. Unfortunately even with a fresh download of any linux distro, it's really unusable until you connect to the internet and update and get all the stuff you need which for some reason doesn't actually come with the install, but is necessary anyway. I know wifi adapters suck anyway but it's my only option for internet.
>>
>>54926173
I'm terribly sorry for interjecting another moment, but what I just told you is GNU/Linux is, in fact, just Linux, or as I've just now taken to calling it, Just Linux. Linux apparently does happen to be a whole operating system unto itself and comprises a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Most computer users who run the entire Linux system every day already realize it. Through a peculiar turn of events, I was misled into calling the system "GNU/Linux", and until now, I was unaware that it is basically the Linux system, developed by the Linux project.

There really isn't a GNU/Linux, and I really wasn't using it; it is an extraneous misrepresentation of the system that's being used. Linux is the operating system: the entire system made useful by its included corelibs, shell utilities, and other vital system components. The kernel is already an integral part of the Linux operating system, never confined useless by itself; it functions coherently within the context of the complete Linux operating system. Linux is never used in combination with GNU accessories: the whole system is basically Linux without any GNU added, or Just Linux. All the so-called "GNU/Linux" distributions are really distributions of Linux.

No, anon, music doesn't have viruses, only games do.
>>
Stick with my Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit install. There is no reason to upgrade/change. Only games I play are older titles that don't need DX12 or even DX11 for that mater. Ram? Let's see, I've got 32GB so I'm good for years. I use a core set of programs that work so I'll still use whatever version that I've got. Only updates will be for browser and antivirus. CPU ? Quad core 3.2 ghz. More than enough considering most of my games and apps only use like maybe one - two cores. Hardware ? Mobo has Sata 6 and USB 3.0 so I'm good on that front. Win 7 has support for Advanced format drives so when they (drive makers) finally switch to pure 4k sector instead of 4k emulation as is now I'll be good. Storage? Can install up to 2TB as boot drive. more than enough since hell I use only a 160GB drive now. I've got most of my data stored on a home server. so no need for large boot drive.

slax, raspbian, ubuntu, ubuntu server
thinking about debian for constant use, but it will take several weeks of configuring and testing everything
I'm an EE student and a hardcore windows user, so I kinda really know how operating systems work, im just lost at the sheer number of distros.

>>
open a console as root

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade -y

and go on using Debian
>>
>>54921935
Switch entirely to Debian. By 2020, Steam should support all my gaymen needs, so I can finally take my main rig where I already took all my office computers.
>>
>>54922255
>>54924076
The truth is that with common sense installed, a private user is much more at risk of being fucked over by an update breaking it than getting a virus.
>>
>>54927567
Is this a laptop or a pre-built desktop you're talking about?
>>
>>54928452
>im just lost at the sheer number of distros.
It isn't that complicated when you weed out the distros further downstream as all they give you is maybe a few more prepackaged features while at the same time making it take longer for security updates to reach you. For example Linux Mint was just a fork of Debian or Ubuntu with a different desktop environment and some other changes (and security issues due to things not being updated in a timely manner).

I have updates turned off on win7 now either way. The problem will be harder compability. Big corps won't provide a driver for win7.

When the time comes, I will just switch to some GNU/Linux flavour.
>>
At the rate that MS is currently rape-forcing their users to upgrade to Windows 10, support for all previous versions will be obsolete by end of year.
