>The new Pascal architecture supports HEVC hardware decode acceleration, saving power and enabling the playback of high-resolution content, including 4K and 8K video.

THANK YOU BASED NVIDIA
>>
This doesn't matter on desktops. As long as you have an A8/i3 CPU then hw hevc decoding is a meme.
>>
>>54921367
You're a stupid lying piece of shit and it shows

Yeah, go ahead and decode 4K/8K video on CPU and see if you could actually play it

>This doesn't matter on desktops. As long as you have an A8/i3 CPU then hw hevc decoding is a meme.

At 100% Cpu use

>Nice Idea
>>
>>54921340
Yea I guess you need this if you have a pentium 4.
>>
>>54921340
literally nothing to do with videogames
>>
>>54921392
amd has dedicated uvd chip since the 5xxx
you dont even know wtf are you talking about
>>
The HEVC meme needs to die right now. You shouldn't have to waste money on video playback.

Hardware for HTPCs should be cheap as fuck.

See if you can play this 8K video without hardware decoding, smartass

Fuck off, child. No one on the goddamn planet uses that shit and never will.

Another dumb person with no thinking skills

Pascal family supports HEVC hardware decoding top to bottom
>>
>>54921459
This.

Encoding 10-bit HEVC @ 720p, ~1mbps, fast preset is already fucking brutal on desktop processors. Even anons with i7s struggle to get 30FPS.
>>
>BASED NVIDIA
AMD developed this.
>>
>>54921513
shhhh dont wake them up from their sleep
>>
>>54921513
AMD didn't develop anything

Nvidia had HEVC Main10 decoding back in 2015, AMD only barely getting it in 2016

AMD can't even hardware decode 4K H.264 until Tonga's release while Nvidia had 4K H.264 hardware decoding back in 2012
>>
>>54921551
The UVD version in "Fiji" and "Carrizo"-based graphics controller hardware is also announced to provide support for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC, H.265) hardware video decoding

amd/ati had hw support for everything literally since 2004 till now...
>>
>>54921340
>4K HEVC 12bit decoding
huh, animuguu-encoders will be furious.
as we all know, animuguu-encodes must not be decodeable by hardware.

Is there 14bit-encoding for HEVC?
>>
>>54921574
MAIN10, DO YOU FUCKING READ?

Fiji & Carrizo doesn't support Main10 hardware decoding, Main decoding is fucking USELESS

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9390/the-amd-radeon-r9-fury-x-review/8

>Unfortunately what you won’t find here is Main10 profile support, which is the profile for 10-bit color, and AMD has confirmed that 10-bit color support is not available on Fiji. As our in-house video guru Ganesh T S pointed out when looking at these results, Main10 is already being used in places you wouldn’t normally expect to see it, such as Netflix streaming. So there is some question over how useful Fiji’s HEVC decoder will be with commercial content, ignoring for now the fact that lack of Main10 support essentially rules out good support for some advanced color space features such as Rec. 2020, which needs higher bit depths to support the larger color space without extensive banding.

AYYMDPOORFAGS lying again as usual to defend their shitty, dying company

>Main10 is already being used in places you wouldn’t normally expect to see it, such as Netflix streaming.
it's used by every HEVC 4K source, may it be streaming, UHD or 4K-Bluray.

nvidia had full main10 hw support NOW in 2015 they only had a general support for .265 and nothing more just like amd
but you already knew that..
>>54921604
yes poor fags
The UVD is based on an ATI Xilleon video processor, which is incorporated onto the same die as the GPU and is part of the ATI Avivo HD for hardware video decoding, along with the Advanced Video Processor (AVP). UVD, as stated by AMD, handles decoding of H.264/AVC, and VC-1 video codecs entirely in hardware.
oh look it was back on 2004 that amd/ati had full hw support for decoding and encoding hmm
>>
>>54921340
Can't wait for them $2000 hdr monitors famalam
>>
>>54921608
Even more than that: Main10 is a required profile in the spec.

HEVC Advance might want a word with them - you're not technically allowed to say you support "HEVC"™ if you don't support Main10.
>>
>>54921636
>Actually believes this lie

AMD did not have H.264 hardware decoding back in 2004, X1000 series H.264 hardware decoding is not full hardware decoding, it's partial/hybrid which is USELESS

Nvidia had full H.264 hardware decoding back in 2007 and AMD was late by a few months with HD2600

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2220

>April 27, 2007

Nvidia, first to support full H.264 hardware decoding

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2261

>June 28, 2007

AYYMD, shit company that is late always
>>
>With the launch of its GeForce 8600 and 8500 GPUs, NVIDIA became the first to offer 100% GPU based decoding of H.264 content. While we can assume that ATI will offer the same in its next-generation graphics architecture, the fact of the matter is that NVIDIA was first and you can actually buy these cards today with full H.264 decode acceleration.

Nvidia supported main10 since the release of gm206 (960,950)

You should stop responding. You're getting fucked left and right by different anons.

anon, sorry to dissapoint you but a HDR video is not about HDR capabilities of a monitor.

a HDR video is vastly different function. it films the dark and the bright spots on the video and merge it together that both details are visible in the result video

a hdr monitor has a vastly increased contrast ratio, say 10000:1 native while typical monitors only feature 1000:1 native contrast. this enables for much darker and brighter pictures and requires video/render material which is optimised for this monitor specification to output this high contrast format which requires more bandwidth and space

who gives a shit? even the turbonerd weeb snimes aren't gonna be made in such high res sonce it eould be too expensive. kys fags
