What's /g/'s top choice in staying cold in the hot days of summer?

My old house had a centralized air conditioning system, but my new house doesn't, so now I just use a portable air conditioner.
>>
I just sit around and sweat a lot to be honest with you, it doesn't even have to be summer really
>>
A cheap fan I bought used.
>>
>>54916558
this. I usually just let the excess sweat soak into my beard or ponytail.
>>
>>54916378
ceiling fan. ac units are expensive and raise your electricity bill too high if youre constantly using them. which you have to do if you want to always be cool.
>>
i just scream til i pass out

note, pic attached is from 10pm with the windows open, during the day its 90+ inside
>>

Portable air conditioner are CANCER
>>
>>54916613
yeah i live in california and ive never had ac. its a bitch when i have my pc and tv turned on. and opening the windows usually only makes it worse.
>>
since I'm not poor I just turn the AC on
>>
>>54916613
I'm actually somewhat cold at this temperature. 85-90 is perfect for me. Low humidity only, though.
>>
>>54916378
Keeping as low as possible. Remember the convection principle.

i run the central air downstairs and run a window unit in the upstairs bedroom while the other two bedrooms remain hot since they're unused.

window units > running central air.

i also have a nice fan i keep running at all times, as well as ceiling fan.

innawoods life is good.

lars pls

I have two portable air conditioners and swear by them. I also have one at work and will probably get a third for home this summer as California is going to be hell this year.
>>
>>54916378
a portable air conditioner you actually use is better than a centralized one you never use

I just run my rooms a/c so cold that I have to have a foot heater

It's pretty comfy. And this is summer in Florida too.

>tfw you don't pay for your own electricity
>>
>95 today
>ceiling fan is just circulating hot air
>humid as fuck

it's fucking miserable.
>>
>>54917418

can't you spend 100 bucks on a window unit?
>>
>>54917495
How would you seal up a horizontal sliding window though
>>
Staying below ground level is my top choice of staying cool these hot days of summer.
>>
>>54917391
that's why i avoid the south

>Bowl of ice
>Add salt
>Blow fan over, facing you
>Cool cheap air
I do this on hot summer days, and it works guud.
>>
>>54917761
Since I have two sets of Windows in my room I put a fan facing out the window and blow the air out, which causes a smooth draft to come in the window next to my bed which is nice.

So far the heat has not hit us hard here in the Midwest.
>>
>>54917791
Oh anon, it will. And the humidity will hit even harder. We're barely into June so far. Plenty of summer left
>>
The New England winters have made anything above 50 too hot for me.
My AC is on 80% of the year.
>>
>>54917761
doesn't the salt melt the ice faster?
>>
>>54917818
Might pick up a dehumidifier then, and save it for when I move into the basement.
>>
>>54917875
It makes the ice cooler or something.
But yeah the ice does melt fast either way.
>>
I got solar panels so I can run my Ac for "free"
>>
I'm seriously debating one of those 5 gallon pails with ice in it with the fan blowing the air out for my computer room. I can't keep fighting my roommate on the thermostat. Time to get some localized solutions
>>
>>54916886
>window units > running central air.
This is what I thought until I bought a house with central air
>>
>>54918057
I think cost wise is probably what he meant. IIRC window units cost less to run per year
>>
R9 290
>>
>>54918057

my issue is the unit is a little small for driving the square footage on both floors so it costs more to cool the whole house than just the room i chill in the most.

Just build a quick swamp cooler (look it up, easy and it is effective).
>>
>>54918057
this desu

Reducing sunlight entry and maximizing air circulation.

Oh, also I suggest not fapping because it can make you feel hot.
>>
Slap a fan in your windows at night. Turn them off during the day. Keep the shades drawn in rooms that you're not using
