the 13 inch rmbp. a 15 inch laptop without the numpad and with a tiny keyboard in the middle is beyond retarded

But they did. Apple products are widely used due to the business care plans apple offers.
Moreover every single TV in the company runs supported by apple tv for the very reason of compatibility.

Also after 4 months tab button fell off and this junk was sent for replacement. Yes, new one still overheats.
>>
>>54903346

I wouldn't ve surprised if rMBP overheated and had terrible battery life. My guess is he ran it at full brightness. Retina screens are really power hungry and can cause the battery to heat up and drain really fast. Same is true for smarphones
>>
>>54903369
Maybe if you weren't watching futa while compiling and you cleaned the Cheeto dust out of the vent it wouldn't overheat.

If I'm gonna spent over 2k on a laptop I'll make sure it lasts me more than 3 fucking years
>>
>>54903418
If you have a MacBook for three years you're doing it wrong
>>
>>54903388
Nope. I however am constantly running a VM in the background. Entirely because docker is not fully supported on osx kernel yet. However this VM has a minor resources impact.
As to the screen - it's never on full brightness, rather on 70%~. Still that's the performance you get out of 2k £ machine. Fkin bullshit.
>>
>>54903271
From a financial standpoint buying an apple computer is the best choice since even after 2 years you can resell it fairly expensively whereas most other laptops aren't worth shit anymore. I own a 2015 13" rMBP and it's great, build quality and speed is awesome. What really sucks is OSX and the fact that CPU and GPU are the same unit. Viewing flash content or twitch streams produces a lot of heat and the fans spin up really loud. It's totally fine for dev work though.
>>
>>54903442
>What really sucks is OSX
Sure thing bud
>>
>>54903442
Might as well add I bought this thang for uni and dev work, not as entertainment slave.
>>
>>54903271
Depends on the purpose of the laptop and preferences of the consumer. For example I'd get a mac if I was a college student who needed something sleek and mobile, plus you can't beat the design. I'd get a ThinkPad if I was a NEET (which I am).
>>
>>54903442

rMBPs have non integrated gpus as well. They only kick in during graphically intense tasks due. It's only Airs that use intels integrated only.

So buying an expensive brick is good because you can sell it after its even more of a brick for a decent amount of cash? As opposed to buying a useful laptop and using it until it dies of old age

Zenbook 3 with QHD+ screen, i7, 8GB RAM, 256-512GB SSD.

Can we Put an End to this macbook meme?
>>

These are my favorite but they're a bit samey.
>>
>>54903614

Just buy a quiet budget desktop and use it for a decade, the more generic the parts the better.

Buying laptops is a waste of money because they last 3 years tops before wearing down both physically and due to batreries crapping out if not sooner.

I'm tempted by one of these and making it a hackintosh to be honest. Apples laptops have disappointed me more and more in the last 5 years.

The "G" and "H" key should be centered to the screen to avoid RSI.
You would need at least a 21 inch (16:10 ratio) screen to achieve this.
>>
>>54903908
I could easily carry around a 7lb laptop, I just can't fathom why I willingly would. It's not 2000 anymore.
>>
>>54903577
At least?
Maybe you're just a giagantic faggot.
13"-14" ist perfect for being productive.
If you want something for gayming or real work you might consider a desktop pc.
>>
Thinkpad T460s
>>
>>54903933
Not op, but the screen and the processor on the t460s are not even close.

I wish they were. I'm looking for a switch from my MBP13, and love the thinkpad keyboard. BUT the screens are too dim and the 520 graphics are not cutting it.

If only lenovo would put a decent fucking panel on the thing.
>>
>>54903517
Is the trackpad still shit?
>>
>>54903403
What vent? It's 2016 and these retards at apple still don't put vents on the bottom of workstation grade laptops and then they wonder why it runs hotter than the sun
>>
>>54903965

It's not terrible like it was on the T440s, but it's not great. At least with the actual buttons on the T460s, you can disable the trackpad and just use the trackpoint.

everything in this post is a lie except for spotify, its fucking helper processes suddenly take up two whole cores for no reason on os x

I've been given a (r)MBP for every programming job I've had except one internship - no issues of course and I couldn't imagine being 10% as productive on windows. linux would be fine but not everyone can use a terminal for 90% of their job like I do
>>
>>54903418
yes, that's why you would buy a mac. buy the $100 apple care extension if you really care that much, chances are if you don't drop it or splil shit on it you'll have no problems though.

>>54903439
boot2docker uses approximately 10% of the resources slack does. not even worth mentioning buddy

>>54903546
you've been conditioned to believe that apple hardware is useless. only thinkpads rival apple hardware in quality. your pleb laptop will EOL in 3 years, a mac will EOL in 5 (but you're better off selling it after 3 to get an optimal return)

>>54903614
were you planning on like, replacing the touchpad and keyboard after they go? buying new RAM is not enough of an upgrade to make what you're saying not sound stupid

Please you're embarrassing yourself. It's the same plasticky Clevo chassis over and over.
>>
>>54903516
Sadly that's not true.
The only rMBPs that have discrete graphics are the most expensive 15" ones.
I think you're gonna spend 2500€+ on one of those.
>>
>>54904015
If you actually had a 15" rMBP then you would know about the intakes on the sides of the laptop and the exhaust in the rear.

Nice try, though.

The 13" MBA special ordered with the i7 is better for my purposes. Wildly better battery life, and the effective resolution is higher since the retina degrades to fucking 1280x800.
Coming from Thinkpads, the keyboard took some getting used to but it's definitely the best portable on the market at the moment.

Agreed.

This is why I carry a suitcase with my mITX desktop build, a monitor, and a UPS with me everywhere I go.

For a consumer laptop? It's probably the best.
For anyone who needs a work laptop in the tech field? It's practically useless.
>can't securely carry and use in one hand
>not enough battery life for a whole workday
>battery is not removable
>no disc drive
>no expresscard
>no TPM
>no ethernet
The last three are required by my job, and the last two are required by basically anyone working in an enterprise IT environment.
