Why does Pic related's eco system so disgustingly overpriced.
The camera's i can see... Asking that much for a cinema camera especially given their feature set is beyond reasonable.
but
>overly modular
>SSD requires SSD Bay(Not sold with camera)
>Literally no way to write video out
>unless you have an IO extender module (Not sold with camera)
I mean they're fixing this in the new cameras, but....
>128GB SSD
>$850
>Battery support?
>Nothing under $500
>Handle
>$150
FOR WHAT FUCKING PURPOSE.
It's pro :^)
For freedom. That's the purpose.
You need their SSD's because they got to be certified to handle the raw data througput of such a ridiculous amount of data.

chances are its probably still sata though and validation does not justify a 10x increase in price.
Free market
It's corporate pricing, this is not a damn charity.

Tell me about it. Want a $7500 camera? $15,000+ to make it work with all the required parts. Not even talking about audio, that's thousands more for the core equipment and multiply the price of decent mics/transmitters by the amount you need for all your talent.
Thing is, not everyone needs all these parts, for instance in broadcast the cameras are linked directly into the capture system that immediately writes everything to storage, so writable media and readers would have been a waste if they were included in the package. They're merely speculating on the fact that these things need to be super-modular.
However, you have to keep in mind that just several years ago, a top-line Sony cinema camera with not even an S35 sensor, very picky lighting and color response and no Raw recording would have cost $250,000 just for the camera body.
RED helped bring Raw recording into the industry, and Canon of all companies caused prices to come crashing down since still cameras became viable filming devices, and here we are today with cameras that are not only an order of magnitude much more feature-rich, but can also be feasibly purchased by mere mortals. All the more reason for companies to capitalize on the one thing they still can - accessories.

Overpriced? It's not in the market it competes in.

Too much for a pro camera??
Red was one of the firsts to make cinema/high level commercials affordable to small companies.
Still high for most people, but we are talking about state of the art work equipment: more like a truck or a fishing boat, it's something you use for work and you are supposed to be able to afford it to go pro.
And while it's a good thing that cheaper to make tv/movies (because red IS cheap to, say, cameras from the 90's/00's), it's tricky because we are looking at a general lower level of production and lower wages (than 90's/00's).
If it's still too much, use an iphone
Anyone who can afford the camera can afford the accessories
You can use a DSLR with microphone instead

>being surprised by the fact that professional instruments cost money
It's because setups like that are meant to be rented out
well it costs a shit ton of money to set up the machines to manufacture them
like, that's a several million dollar investment
and professional film studios and sometimes amateurs are willing to shell out the dosh
so it's not really that bad considering

To produce multi million dollar blockbusters
>>54902890
So they can pay a lot of money to make movies so we can pirate them
>>54902890
Professional market is overpriced because the people working in the industry can afford it. All there is too it.
>>54903392
You should see what's in those $1,500 REDMAGs. REDRAW is a compressed format. >>54905833 is 100% right but this is basically how RED makes their base camera so cheap. They make it all back on accessories.

>Why does Pic related's eco system so disgustingly overpriced.
bruh, alexa costs 70k+ with accessories
>>54910162
Damn, that's pretty fucking depressing that it's just sata desu senpai. for the >$1k for that i'd expected some more advanced system
