Vivaldi is chromium with a heavy 'skin' on top

I just switched to Vivaldi today (well done, shills) from Firefox.
I wanted to jump ship from Firefox since I felt like my options were either stick with my version as they slowly remove features, or stay up to date and get slowly more cucked.

I hope that Servo ends up being good, and that someone uses Servo + V8 to make a decent browser to compete with Blink based browsers.

>>

Why not? Those are two of the most memetic browsers always posted on /g/
>>
>>54895327
Hmm, I suppose. Just seemed weird to happen that they commented on all of those and no others.

Actually I just ranked the same browsers the Anon before me did.

Oh right, fair enough. Why do people put vivaldi so low? I can understand not liking a text editor being built with web technologies, but a browser using them seems to make a lot of sense.
>>
I've been using Chrome since 2010. Had been using Firefox before that time period. I check how firefox is from time to time but I don't find it interesting. Never had a prob with Chrome so why change it?

>>

Until 2004 (if memory serves) you "had" to pay for Opera. Unless you got a crack for it and back then cracks always worked!

I don't know about debian, but on arch you can export the flag
FIREFOX_ESR_BIN_PREFER_OLDER
to compile the AUR version using the older version instead.

Adding to that, the PKGBUILD downloads and compiles this version https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/38.8.0esr/

>>

no, you did not need to pay for opera. it was ad supported. to get rid of the ads, you either pay, or use one of the unauthorized methods of getting rid of them. very few people actually paid for opera.

Opera a.k.a one of the better chromium off-shoots.

>>
>>54899728
All I'm saying is that you shouldn't restrict yourself to inferior software just because you can't view the source code. You should use whatever is best for the job. If it's open source, neat. If not, so be it.

>>54899752
Features ≠ bloat. The fact that Opera could do so much is what made it so great. Besides, does the so-called bloat even matter when it's got such a small footprint? I've got 15 tabs open and this thing is also my mail client and RSS client and it's still barely using 500MB of RAM.
>>
>>54899779
And it does not make sense to use a proprietary browser as there are many free browsers that are very good.
>>
>>54899873
It does when there isn't one that even comes close to comparing with Opera.
>>
>>54899041
>Its basically a security patched firefox 38.8 without all the crap they are adding lately.
you wish, its the same with hello and all of it
and soon 38 is kill and no more tab groups
then with 50+ no more themes and whatever they decide to remove
>>
>>54899979

Tab groups are still a thing, they're just an addon instead of a built in feature now.

Luckily Microsoft still loves its users and is truly invested in providing the best user experience possible. Try out the new Edge, you will find it much better than chrome.

Firefox if you want to tweak it (custom GUI, custom javascripts on pages, custom anything)
Chrome if you want to have your ads personalised.
