First off, Appelbaum claims to have left to pursue a PhD with DJ Bernstein and Tanja Larange as advisors. He is listed on Tanja's page as her student.
He also was not liked at the ultra liberal cuckfest that is the TorProject because he pushed to stop using Mozilla. Mozilla's builds still don't even have executable ASLR (PIE), stack canaries, _FORTIFY_SOURCE or RELRO let alone a sandbox. He pushed for Chromium but because the Mozilla project is full Democrat party/muh liberals they refused to switch.
What we need is a professional organization that can write privacy software which isn't political whatsoever. No wannabe activists, no mall goths, no drama because there's been nothing but constant drama @Tor.
