He's smarter than me.

I've thought of what he's thought of. Everyone with above average intelligence would have thought of something similar. However the depth of technicalities is the true measurement of smart and above average.

>assuming a certain rate of AI development/advancement we would be so left behind

How many times since the 80s have we heard this argument?

This Kurzweil level of stupid and gullible. It's like those transhumanists fags chanting all the time: but mah Moore's law will lead to infinite intelligence and the AI will surpass us, hurr durr.

These faggots are just desperate for a purpose in life. And this guy is desperate to find the next big thing in tech to invest in. Since electric cars didn't quite make a hit, he started making cheaper versions of it, in a desperate attempt to stay relevant.

Little do the gullible know that using an electric car doesn't solve much about our dependence on fossil fuel, it just moves one source of consumption from one endpoint to another. Basically for the electricity you will use for you car more fossil fuel will be burned to produce the same amount of electricity to power your car. Except that you don't see that anymore, since you're not in direct contact with a power producer.

>Basically for the electricity you will use for you car more fossil fuel will be burned to produce the same amount of electricity to power your car.

That's not entirely correct. Ignoring alternate sources of electricity, a fossil fuel power plant can run its generators at max efficiency all the time, whereas the fossil fuel engine in a car must run at lower efficiency at times due to hills, acceleration, idling, etc. This part of the reason why trains don't use diesel engines to move but rather electrical engines powered by diesel generators.

Additionally, a stationary factory could have stricter exhaust regulations than we could ever dream of being placed upon a car. Really there's a lot to be gained by centralizing fossil fuel use in this way.

I'm not sure what she expected - having grown up around entrepreneurs and CEOs, this is the norm. They tend to be unable to understand that those around them might not comply to their view, and even that others might not understand implicitly what they want. It's very obvious that their egos precede them.

Progress is incremental. The singularity isn't some magical thing, 100 years ago people couldn't have imagined smart phones. We're working on quantum computers and realistic neutral networks with little grasp of how it will change everyday life in 30 years.

I don't see anyone talking about this, but I think this will be the greatest thing in this century.

Not space travel to mars, not electric cars, but rather AI and AI augmentation. Specifically, augmenting our input and output speeds. We are throughly limited input and output. Our eyes/ears do a decent job of input but the output via speech/finger keyboard is hundreds of magnitude slower.

This guy was talking about a neural lace thats injected or attached in our veins that goes to our brain that can communicate at a much faster rate from the brain to an the external event. Instead of using hand to hype keys slowly, instead of using speech to text synthesis, why not simply capture the signals that would otherwise go to those output and send it to a computer? This would speed up the output capability tremendously. We'd go from 100 wpm typing with hand to thousands/millions of wpm.

We'd be able to send/receive data at tremendous rate. It will usher a new information age.

In case you're thinking this is SCI-FI or fantasy, its not. The technology is not mature yet, but its there. The research is there and demonstrated successfully. I can't wait for when that happens.

>Neural Lace
>Typing applications
You're thinking too small. A neural lace that can communicate with the systems on board a helicopter, a tank, a drone, or even a commercial airplane would allow unprecedented control in a combat scenario. It would likely be unintuitive, so obviously a lot of training would be necessary, but think about the limitations of a tank. This would overcome all of them. Complete 360 degree visual awareness.

Not to mention that once servos are refined and combat robots become feasible, this basically opens the avenue to surrogate soldiers. Wars will cost money, not lives.
>>
>>54896823
I'm mainly thinking in the very smallest practical usage for this. Which is input/output level. Typing speed seems like the closest analogy.

This can very well scale up to anything that requires responses and feedback and make anyone into a super human.

he is very active in the day to day stuff at SpaceX.

What makes you think this? I'm sure he's just like most other CEOs were he's totally disengaged from the normal workings of the company and just stays in his office all day.
>>
>>54902248
Wow, you sound like you've personally spent longer than two days with Musk and therefore, you're qualified to speak about what he actually does with his time.
>>
>>54892316
We're replacing an ancient and inefficient medium in support for a newer medium that is more universal.

It's like switching over from Parallel/Serial to USB.

You would have to be retarded to think that having a car that can take a more versatile form of fuel is "gullible."

When the fossil fuels run out in a hundred or a million years, at least electric cars will run because nuclear and others still exist.
>>
>>54902248
I actually work here and see him in the office almost every day. Say what you want about the whole "cult of Elon" thing but the guy does really work his ass off and is very involved with most aspects of what goes on at SpaceX.

He is definitely not "disengaged".
>>
>>54902282
Don't bother with him, there seems to be one guy or a few that are just baiting with nonsense about elon musk. I mean I get that he is WAY over praised like he is a fucking god. But these fucking retards on /g/ watch a 2 minute clip and say "lol he is dumb because he said x" instead of properly researching or doing a basic google search on what he is talking about. On the other hand you have sites like vox making clickbait articles and completely retarded interviewers that think a neural interface is like google glass so it makes it easier for these ADD retards to say something about it. Fact of the matter is elon musk is a really intelligent person (holds physics degree and actually knows his shit). He was doing a phd in physics on staford and he is CTO of Spacex, of course he doesn't do most of the research that would be retarded.
