So is getting a motherboard with Thunderbolt 3 a good idea?
What would be better x99 or z170?
Haven't had a tower PC since 2005 and have been on Thinkpad / Macbook Pro laptops as my only computers since then, not counting ODroid or Raspberry Pi.

The last PC tower i had was an Athlon XP with Radeon 9800
My current computer is the MacBookPro11,3
I work at intel in software engineering so the discounts are nice.
i7 6700k for $175
and a
i7-5960X for $535

x99 is probably a better investment just because
>6800k
>28 pcie lanes
>6850k
>40 pcie lanes

I was looking at the GIGABYTE GA-X99P-SLI
its got thunderbolt 3.0 and usb 3.1 as well as support down the road for a Intel Core i7-6950X when they get cheaper or they show up on the employee discount which for those chips is usually 50 to 60%
Funny factor i can most likely get a free nvidia card with a personal connection and the fact I live right across the street from their offices where I live.

its a meme
Fuck this spec till intel stops being such fuckwits with the licensing.
