I have a Macbook and a desktop running Arch, but I can only speak from my experience: my Macbook was bought in late 2013, which seems to be the highpoint for Apple quality, as after that it seemed to plateau for a bit, then sharply decline. However my oldish (not really) laptop runs what it needs to well. It can handle Chromium with 15 tabs open, and 6 desktops (only 1 is a real desktop, other 5 are full screened terminals/Atom environments). However there are times when it begins to slug a bit. Been thinking about upgrading to 16GB of RAM. Wouldn't buy any of the new shit though, grab one from 2-3 years ago for $750 of off eBay. High quality and reasonable pricing.

Hey everyone, let me tell you why Apple™ and its MacBook® brand of computers are the best. I cannot stop you from having a differing opinion, since it is perfectly legal to be wrong. But I can tell you what happened to me.

I was still a virgin at the age of 56, and I used Windows. I was overweight, ugly, smelled bad, my clothes were dirty, and I had an Android phone too. No one wanted to have a relationship with me, I had no friends, and my family disowned me. There were several job interviews that I went to that went no where, since they asked me to demo my skills, and I would pull out a Thinkpad instead of an Apple™ MacBook®. It was tough being an unemployed loser, but that all was about to change.

On a cold Saturday night, I was trying to get some sleep, but the newspapers I was covering myself with had gotten wet in the rain, and the park bench was very old and broken, and some of the wood was digging into my body. As I alternately dozed off and woke up in discomfort, I had a dream. The dream that was to change my entire life.

In the dream, I was sitting down and feeling quite blue, when the ghost of Steve Jobs® came to me, and poked me in the back. "You were meant for more than this, old man", he said to me. "What are you talking about, Steve®?" I replied. He sat down next to me, looked me in the eye, and said "This. All of this. The virginity. The homelessness. The jo- I mean the careerlessness. The android phone. You deserve so much better."

"But what am I supposed to, Jobs™? I cannot get work, and therefore I cannot buy superior hardware to improve my lifestyle."

"Sin now," said the man, "and repent later." He gave me one final hard poke in the back, the took out a pair of cymbals. "You have my blessings. Go!" And then he clapped the cymbals together, hard.

I woke up to the peal of thunder, as the rain intensified above me. Rubbing my sore back, I knew what I had to do.
>>
>>54884048
I picked up a brick with rounded edges, and walked in the heavy rain towards the nearby Apple™ Store®. Heaven above forgive me for what I am about to do, but I was going to change my life for the better.

The glass of the Apple™ Store® was smashed, I dashed in, picked up the first two unsecured packages that I could find, then I dashed out. They had security cameras? I had Steve Jobs® blessing, and hopefully his protection too.

I ran. Oh Steve, how I ran! I ran for what seemed like an eternity. I ran until I was exhausted, and could run no more. Barely breathing, I stopped and hid in dark alley. After resting for a while, I peeked out to see if the alarm had been raised, or if the police had been summoned. But no, there was only the rain, and the thunder. A hundred yards back, I could still see the Apple™ Store® that I had burgled, with a large jagged hole in the glass. I was safe. The packages were in my hands. The deed was done.

Come morning, I went to a mall, and sold my Thinkpad ($35, nice resale value, when compared to Apple™ MacBook®) and my Android. In the two packages that I had pirated from the Apple™ Store®, I had found a Macbook® and an iPhone. I bought a razor, and soap, but I saved the remainder of the $$$, and pirated a new shirt and jeans.

I shaved. I bathed. I put on the new clothes. I put the iPhone in my pocket, and I felt 20lbs lighter. I _looked_ 20lbs lighter. I remember reading on a tumblr blog that obesity is a social construct, and that I had laughed when I read it. Now I was the evidence that it is true.

Now /g/, you may now believe me, but that day my life changed. It was like a rebirth, or a reincarnation. I had walked into the mall a decrepit, fat, smelly, neckbearded Windows user, and walked out a manly, macho stud. I looked better, I smelled better, I was more confident than I had ever been when I had had an Android phone, and I felt GREAT! Noticing a Starbucks nearby, I felt drawn to it. I headed there.
>>
>>54883968
Not when it makes no difference.

It's either limited by USB speeds or insignificant thanks to limited size and use case.

Have you ever moved a file around on an ssd or HDD?
It's instantaneous.

Higher performance is good when it's actually beneficial.

>>54883999
I actually have an asus transformer and unless rendering or doing intensive shit, it's just as fast as my friends 2014 macbook pro. Only thing I hate about it is the glossy low res screen.

>trackpad impossible to click near upper edge
no? where did you get this info? have you ever clicked a force touch trackpad?

>even applel themselves has admitted it's utter shit now and has trashed the design to go back to copying 90's era laptops with solid non-click touchpads
which works even better with controllable press toughness. far better than any trackpad on the world.

>still has no real buttons
and where is the negativity here?

>relies on pressure sensitive gimmick bullshit
and? what are you trying to tell us here?

>if you press too lightly or too hard it does something completely different than what you intended
no it doesn't work like that. it's simply one press and another press after pushing harder. there is no way to reproduce force clicking directly accidentally.

>ultra shit tier zero travel chiclet keyboard
feels gud.

>OSX is a steaming pile of shit with horrendous battery management
kek, baseless claims.

>applel's solution is to cram in a massive heavy 95WHr battery to make up for it
why does it bother you?

>even XXXTREME GAMER cancer like razer blade with 4X the CPU/GPU power and 70WHr battery matches it in battery life in same tasks
no, mbpr 15" with discrete gpu has much better CPU (i7 4980hq), and a competitive gpu.

>gets BTFO by 55WHr Yoga 2 in battery life in same tasks
still no.

>blurry as shit retina meme scaling

At Starbucks, I ordered a latte. Sitting down at a table, I took out my Apple™ MacBook®, and nearly cried. The intuitiveness, /g/, the creativeness, the sheer bliss of a unified ecosystem! My God! Where was all this all my life? I started reading about programming, and how to develop apps for the iPhone using Apple's Swift. It was... it was just great, /g/. It was the best day of my life.

The waitress came with my latte. She was a real qt. I knew I looked attractive when she asked me: "Are you a homosexual?" I smiled at her, and replied "No, not at all. And even if I was, that would have changed after meeting you." She laughed. I laughed. We talked. We kissed. We went home (her place, I had no place) that night.

Turns out that she was studying to get into Computer Science, and that she aspired to be a game developer. We have a loving relationship now, and I know I want to marry her, because I want no one else to carry my babies.

These days, I make iOS apps for a living, while enjoying life with my beautiful SO. When I think back on the Windows-using loser that I was once, I feel sad at my wasted years. I am proud of myself, and my success. In just 1 week, I made enough $$$ from my iOS apps that I could go back to the Apple™ Store® that I had burgled, and I fixed the broken glass, and paid for the items that I had pirated from them.

It is now time, /g/, time to be mature, to be successful, to be attractive. Ditch the Windows machine you have, and the Android. Hop on over to the magical side. It does not matter how ugly or fat you are now... with Apple™, you can have a new lifestyle! Be the person you have always wanted to be!

Thanks to Apple's great piece of engineering, the MacBook® really changed my life. Thanks Apple!

Among the heaviest of the non-gamer 13" laptops.

They're fairly well-balanced though, instead of having that really shitty wedge design most laptops have, making them extremely back heavy, the weight is more evenly distributed.

As a Samsung Pro 950 NVMe owner, I'd have to say NVMe performance is vastly overrated. It really doesn't make a perceptible difference on any platform on almost any circumstance, whether gaming or professional or casual, over a good old regular SSD (like an Evo).

That said, it's small as fuck and I could see why laptop manufacturers would want it over a full sized SSD.
>>
>>54884076
You shouldn't be rendering on a laptop anyways.

I'll agree with that, for the average user it won't make a difference over a regular SATA SSD. But it's nice to have with 10Gb networking.

If it had Thunderbolt it would be perfect.
The new Zenbook will and is cheaper.

my rmbp 13 never goes 50 when web browsing, 60 when watching videos, and 75-80 when playing vidya

i think this is talking about the core M macbook - it doesn't need a high clock speed for the tasks it's designed for. i haven't experienced throttling on my mbp
>retina meme supposedly for "pros" have have <70% aRGB

doesn't look blurry at 1440x900 scaling and it's way more consistent than windows

I used an ideapad for work and it was utter shit. Now at my current job they gave me a thinkpad and it's miles better.

you should expect these threads, and much of /g/ in general, to get a lot funnier as the proles try to defend the amount of overhead it takes to save money by targeting PC hardware and fiddling with either Windows, which is spyware, or linux which just doesn't have nearly as much support from hardware manufacturers nor software developers (as much as I love linux, I gave up on desktop linux years ago)

This is seriously good. Shit bezels though, the XPS 13 is still a better deal.

As I can tell, Dell, Asus and somewhat Lenovo are starting to add the features you really want in a laptop while Apple is moving into pure stupidity and copying Razer if that leak is to be believed. Dell can win by only changing the CPU each generation.

>>54883637
Why would I want to join the bandwagon of the leading laptop for hipsters, normies and HTML/Web dev sperglords?

>>
>>54888267
Yep, can't beat a Dell these days. You have to be a braindead retard to get anything else.
>>
>>54888284
Actually 16:10 still is a big deal and no one but Apple does it. 3:2 is only used in tablets too small to be a comfortable work tool and everything else is 16:9

A 16:10 XPS 13 would be the greatest thing ever.
>>
>>54888298
They can easily fit a 13.5" 16:10 panel into the same design they have right now by reducing the bottom bezel. Perfection indeed.

I have a retina MBP as well, I'm ok with it but it definitely overheats, 80-100% CPU when doing ANYTHING. Even opening a fucking Finder window.

You can have portability and affordability, performance and affordability, or performance, portability, and down-right fucking robbery on the price point.

Get a cheap laptop and build a nice desktop, since a high-performing laptop is way too fucking expensive for any kind of return-on-investment. I see no reason to get a Macbook or any expensive laptop because of that.

The thing I hate about apple:
my fucking faggot-ass cousin spent maybe $1800 on a laptop from them not even 2 years ago, barely uses the thing, claims that it is "slowing down" and shit, and is about to drop probably the same amount or even more on it so he can have a nice pretty facebook machine
Retards with disposable income, banging my damn head off the walls here senpai

What are you going to use this laptop for?

>rMBP sucks for adobe products and any kind of real 3D rendering
>Can't really play any games on it
>shit for video editing because of its throttled processing power
>There are other laptops on the market which are sufficient for shitposting, writing college papers, and listening to music for half the price

Ok, If you're doing any kind of productivity you're using a custom built desktop at home or in office which is usually provided by a company. If you're looking for productivity on the go then you're investing money in a workstation laptop from Dell, or HP with modular internals in case you need to swap out anything on the go.

My gf has a MBP and even she stated that it was only useful for college while she was just writing papers and browsing, now that she has to maintain JP Morgan Chase database at work she realized the productivity of an actual PC and she asked me to build her a desktop
>>
>>54883637

No, stop this meme.
>>
>>54891164
Really? It may be fine for editing your AMVs and average recorded gameplay but not worth that asking price of $1,300. If video editing is your goal then you can build a nasty desktop for $1,300 with money that will game better and edit better
