Why is Flash objectively bad?
Images are sometimes not shown due to bandwidth/network limitations. Refreshing the page usually helps.

What are its notable weaknesses and technological flaws/disadvantages? Why has it lasted so long?

HTML 5 was released at 28 October 2014

Whereas Flash was released at 1996, that's why Flash lasted so long because it was a available, popular and widely used web multimedia software platform back then. Youtube used it, as well as many other sites did.

The main weakness is Security, Adobe Flash Player is capable of executing malicious code.

What technical limitations does Flash have that would make you tear your hair out as a developer?

Mostly it is hated because of flash advertizement. When ad companies started actively using flash banners instead of static images or gifs, the shit became super annoying - consumes a lot of data bandwidth, increase page loading times, causing over all bad internet experience.
Other than that, it's totally fine for video streaming and some browser mini-games.

the language in itself is not bad.
actionscript 3 has real programming features and is very flexible.
however the downfall of flash is all because of the flashplayer.
almost every week there was a new 0day exploit.
it runs really badly on most setups and for the longest time was only available as 32bit.
its shoddily programmend and crashes a lot. when it did it often took your browsers with it.

actionscript is great
flashplayer is bad

nowadays you can programm in as3 and compile to html5/js. its not nearly as optimized as programming in vanilla js though.

* It WILL leak memory, if you annoy its GC enough. That's not a bug, but a decision, according to some Adobe dev.
* Official runtimes and authoring tools are closed source and don't get proper maintenance.

But there aren't good enough tools to make proper vector animations fast enough.

Congrats, that's a very simple animation and it was probably a PITA to create.

Flash is great.

It's pretty neat for develloping graphical stuff and if you keep your updates you don't face security issues.

Have you ever tried to devellop that kind of stuff in another product?

And HTML 5 is nowhere near as mature or fast.

Because it's a fucking security nightmare. There are more remote sploits for flash than for a cisco router from 2004. It should die already.
