I just installed Gentoo and it's faster than "Oh so close to upstream" Arch who even can't keep close to it's slogan.
Now i need SDD.

OK.
Here's your response.

Meanwhile in the land of non-poorfaggotry even Windows is fast.

>Compiling sources is faster than installing binaries

>>54865523
Nice, I run Gentoo too, it is the best distrobution of GNU/Linux in my personal opinion.
>>
>>54865907
speed is not the only reason to compile
>>
>>54865885
>>54865871
No, I probably make more money than anyone in this thread ($200/hr, security consultant for financial industry). When your time is worth a lot, you don't have time to wait for X to compile. Real professionals use well-supported binary distros like Fedora, Red Hat, or Ubuntu.

It is when your retarded package manager takes ten minutes to solve the dependencies. Don't mind me, just compiling MY software and enjoying being able to patch it effortlessly, installing multiple versions on different slots, the speed benefits and the USE flags for further debloating.
>>

>implying portage doesn't take a dickyear to resolve dependencies
>>
>>54865926
Yes sir.
No cups,no sane,no ppp and other useless for me things in my installation, because i use USE.
>>
>>54865948
I bet you're just some firewall monkey who watches the real console cowboys go to work.

I'm sure you've never needed to run an actual lean, refined piece of software before, which is why you've never seen the need to compile from source. I pity you.
>>
>>54865965
Lol enjoy your shit package manger written in python

If I want KDE I install KDE, don't wait for 5 days
>>
>Compile times kek
Your argument is completely arbitrary in the sense that you only have to worry about compile times during the initial install. After that everything is optimized for your specific CPU architecture. So yeah, some of you are fucking retarded. If you want to use precompiled binaries on Gentoo then use precompiled binaries. Nobody cares. My updates only take about two minutes and my system is fast as hell.
Portage > Ports
Using a source based distro also shows that you know more than the average plebian. It's more professional and every system admin and network professional I know either uses Gentoo or BSD.

Yeah
>that stunning 3% performance improvement
Some people use Linux as their primary OS and they have jobs. They don't want to wait half an hour for each serious updates per week

No

No

>>54865948
I agree. Although I would say Arch is designed for personal desktop use while rpm distros are more enterprise oriented
>>
>>54867033
Quit meming. Gentoo discourages hard ricing.

Dude, you're in denial if you can't see the obvious advantages Gentoo has over other distros.
