If you haven't used PHP yet, just use it and you'll see. If you have only used PHP and don't realize why everyone knows it's so terrible, just try using something else. You should see.
If you know PHP and other language and you STILL don't get just how bad it is, you are in the wrong business. You are like a carpenter who doesn't know the difference between a stone and a hammer.
The amount of use a programming language gets is proportionate to the amount of hate it receives.
PHP gets used a lot so it gets a lot of hate.
PHP is also used exclusively for making money, not just jerking off, so /g/ hates it for that as well.
Also PHP is an old-fashioned web language, not hip and cool like Ruby and Python so that too gets it hate just because it's old.
laravel's pretty sweet but unfortunately theres no jobs near by so ill just stick to rails
