Well, /g/, I listened to you and got a used x220 last October. Great keyboard. I like the amount of hardware I can mess with. But I need a new laptop now (the power socket is completely loose and it refuses to charge most days).
I'd like a laptop with hardware that "just works," and preferably compatible with Linux. MacBooks are out because I can't stand OSX, and I really don't want to buy a Lenovo computer. I'd like to buy a new laptop as well.
Is Dell XPS a good option? All I want is ~Intel i3-i5, ~4-8 GB RAM, ~13 inches, no graphics card, on the lighter side, long battery life. I basically only code and browse the internet.
Why can't you get a new power socket and replace the old one?

>long battery life
lelnovo is oretty much the only option sadly
specifically the x260
Buy a Macbook new with an AppleCare warranty, or you will regret it every time and make this similar thread every 6-12 months.

The FHD version of the XPS 13 has adaptative brightness which sucks. The QHD version also has it, but there's a fix, you need to re-flash the screen firmware through Windows. The QHD also costs more, has less battery life and has a glossy screen, but the screen is superb.

the new (skylake) one also have that adaptive shit?
Get an X201

get another x220?

Unfortunately yes, Dell was aware but they were too far into production to stop it.
I have a QHD XPS 13 coming in soon for this reason, I'll patch it before moving to Linux. Some people swear the issue isn't that visible, others say alt-tabbing from a black terminal to a white firefox windows burns their corneas.
