How is that a good thing? I already have devices with USB type c connectors that came with type c to type c connectors. The full sized USB to type c cable that came with my phone to connect it to a computer that doesn't have a type c port is like 3 inches. They should stick with one or two USB type c ports on top of all the ports that the previous macbook pros had.

This provides immense conviction to my decision to pick an XPS line laptop.

No SD card slot for photography types is a mistake. Every photographer and videographer I know uses those cards, and now they have to get an adapter for their adapters.

I wish Steve were still alive. I'd rather eat shit from his hands than Tim Cucks.

I only read about a quarter of the thread

Do people not realise the FN keys are going onto the bar? It's a touch bar.

Hold off and buy one on amazon or something at a lower price.

How long before apple introduces a flat membrane keyboard and eliminates key travel all-together?

>How many uses does Thunderbolt have again other than mDP out?
I think it's most useful as a hub for more ports. I was hoping that Thunderbolt displays with USB hubs built in would take off, but everything that exists, even the non Apple ones, are pretty expensive. It also might gain some traction now that Thunderbolt supports external GPUs for like people who want to use their laptops as gaming PCs.

>>

>>
>>54846806
You can download Flash. You can't download a port, and who knows when you'll be caught out.
>>
>>54846656
Yes, less functional laptops are moving the industry forward. Progress is measured in smaller ports and thinner laptops.

This is not objective improvement. The actual transport standard, not the port form factor, is the only thing that matters. It's a paradigm shift. Part of a paradigm shift towards disposable consumer electronics that cost thousands per pop.

Thinner laptop. Smaller ports.
Buy more adapters. Buy a new laptop when the RAM fails or the battery wanes. Forgot local I/O, give us your data, put it on our servers so we can monetize your patronage and your content, that's, uh, the modern way, not a revival of something everyone desperately wanted away from back when it was the only option if you weren't fucking rich.

>>54846806
Not really. Flash could have easily been the future if it had been FOSS'd and made its way out of the incompetent hands of adobe. Instead, the browser is now flash. The entire web is the next generation of flash. JS and actionscript are closely related, you dip. Let this sink in. Your web browser is now the flash player. Is this forced complexity progress? Is a more bloated web progress because it's more complex and newer? No, it's a paradigm shift.

Welcome to the free market you retards worship so much. Retard consumers with minimum needs and maximum wants determine the direction of everything.

>>
>>54846948

>>54846984
The real world asked for this dude. The real world is a free market where consumer retards who prioritize entertainment and experience rule, and they fucking wanted this.

They said "woah dude, animated everything, all my web pages are ltitle programs, this is the future, lets make everything in flash"

But adope refused to put something out that was stable, reliable, maintainable, and just fucking open, and therefore suitable to be the platform for the entire web.

Were tech managed in an authoritarian manner we would have just made a new protocol instead of developing with a three language clusterfuck and bloating up the infosphere with "totally not" web apps like 4chan and facebook.

>>
>>54847199
you use usb-c

technically, you have more ports than before (1 magsafe + 1 usb-c or 2 usb-c), and therefore you can buy more adapters

also your power adapter is now firmly attached and the trademark apple cord can wear out even faster in the hands of their careless customers
>>
>>54847199
Really? Magsafe gets on my nerves. I've never accidentally pulled a laptop to the floor by the cable, but I always end up disconnecting it over and over if I try to use it anywhere except a desk
>>

>>
>>54847305
And now millions of devices need adapters, but in reality, they're going to be thrown out with the trash.

We're wasting resources and inconveniencing everyone (especially the poor) in the name of smaller ports. This is why the world hates the west.

How is USB-C the future? How is it better? It's not, it's just thinner so your laptop can look better and eventually be barely any thicker than the port itself (but thinness has quickly diminishing returns to the point of becoming a disadvantage, so why do you fucking want it?)

The answer to everything is "tech companies want you to buy more of their shit"

It's better technology you dipshit
