Buy a HTC 10 or Xiaomi Mi5. Both are better deals than the Samsung S7.

>>
>>54834395
or wait and see how the zuk z2 turns out to be. Seems like it will be a great phone. If you don't need msd slot and waterproofing then you can wait a little longer.

I personally wouldn't buy one because the s7 comes with the exynos cpu which means you will never get proper cm support after samsung drops softwaresupport for their smartphone.
>>
>>54834701
Oh, then get the one with the right screen size for you? I mean there is not much difference between the s7 and the s7 edge except for the bigger screen and a bigger battery afaik.

Regular s7. The edge is unergonomic and doesn't have a proper tempered glass protector.

What would you rather?

A Mi5 with IR blaster, NFC, 3000mah battery, UFS storage and no third party ROMS (atm) for $566 AUD?

Or a ZUK Z2 with no IR, NFC or UFS, but with 3500mah battery and CM on release for $380 AUD?

Was so close to pulling the trigger on the Mi5 but I'm not sure if IR, NFC and UFS and sitting around waiting for kernel source is worth $200
>>
How much of a gimmick is QHD?
>>
>>54835129
I don't really care about NFC. What's UFS? IR blaster is also not a must for me. Never had one on a smartphone. What do I do with it except for controlling my TV? Zuk z2 will apparently get ROM support out of the box according to /csg/ (cm and so on). I'll wait for the z2 desu since the mi5 still hasn't released the kernel sources.

tl;dr it's a eMMC/SSD hybrid that saves power and is much quicker (enabling USB 3.0 speeds in the Mi5 versus 2.0 in the ZUK)

The other I'd agree with you on except

>99% of Australia now supports NFC payment

Mi 5 has a 3000 mah battery and the zuk z2 a 3500 mah battery. In terms of sot I think the zuk is better of even with the missing ufs. If speed matters to you then I'd go for the mi 5 honestly.

Although you might be lucky as somebody just cracked the Qualcomm TrustZone, so technically you can DIY bootloader etc now I guess

>>54835634

It was literally revealed 6-7 hours ago, so Aliexpress etc don't have them yet.

You can pre-order them from zuk.com but I'm not sure if they do international shipping. They'll be shipping everywhere else on the 7th of June.

>>54835658

As the SD820 is 14nm it should mean that, combined with the 3500mah battery and smaller screen, it should get the same life as a RNP3; my partners one lasts for two days or more.

Storage speed doesn't matter as much as usage, although it'd be nice to have a ISO or two available to use with DriveDroid over USB 3 at any time.

Little one is nearly 2 which means he doesn't switch on the TV, he just grabs remotes to bash buttons to see if it makes noise. Wondering why it's so fucking hot in the loungeroom and realising he'd switched on the aircon to 30 celsius somehow.

Z3 screen died and I need a new phone ASAP

what I'm looking for
>5.0" or larger screen
>3000mAh or greater battery (batter life is a must)
>32GB or greater storage
>3GB or more RAM
>MAXIMUM $500 USD

extras that would be nice
>IPxx water/dust resist rating
>wireless charging
>fingerprint sensor
>mSD slot
I've been limiting my searches to those with removable SD but I'm slowly becoming less of a warrior for the feature honestly. I mean it's nice to have but I can't remember ever removing the 32GB card in my current phone. It would be just as easy to get a mUSB/USB-C Card reader to carry with me.

Phones I'm currently looking at:
>Nexus 6P
>Galaxy Note 4
>Zenfone 2 (not patient enough to wait for ZF3)

Generally speaking, does a small battery charge faster than a big battery? I'm going to replace my OnePlus One with the OnePlus X and I don't mind the smaller battery if it charges faster.
>>
>>54836876
I think there's just "less battery" to charge, so yes it would charge faster than a larger battery,
>>
>>54836876
It depends on how much amperage and volts said battery will accept. For example the battery on the zenfone 2 is somewhat big but will charge to 100% in less than 60 minutes. This is because the battery will accept 9V at ~1.5A.

Not really, a lot of users are reporting it to constantly overheat.

>I like the small size, just want it to work faster
You should get an android phone instead. I recommend the Sony Z5 Compact, it's pretty small and features a microsd slot for up to 256GB microsd cards.
>>
>>54837069
If you must stay with iPhone, then the SE would be a major improvement.

If you're up for something different, there are many smaller sized options that are within the same price range that you could look into.

>iPhone SE 16GB - $399
Google Nexus 5X 32GB - $399
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact 32GB - $399
OnePlus X 16GB - $199
Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) 16GB - $199

Almost all of those android phones have a microsd slot. You can expand them all by up to 256GB since they support SDXC. The iPhone SE is limited to 16GB for the $400 version, that's it? Run out of space on your iPhone SE? lmao go buy a another one with 64GB of storage goy.

What's up with the circlejerk over SD card slots? Having one is preferable but what the fuck do you do with your phone if you need more than 64 GB storage? Store Blu-ray rips on it? Cloud storage exists for a reason
>>
Belgiumfag reporting in.

I need a new phone soon-ish and I'm wondering if the Xiaomi Mi5 is worth the hassle (I have to imprt it, underclocked SD820, poor 4G bands for a yuropfag like me, interface not available in French, average software support on XDA) given the OnePlus 3 will come out next month. Also the Zuk Z2 which was just announced today looks pretty impressive.

So, which phone should I get?
>>

Samsung released a 90MB write 256GB microsd card.

>Having one is preferable
No it's a requirement.

>what the fuck do you do with your phone if you need more than 64 GB storage? Store Blu-ray rips on it?
Why not? Beside movies and music you can use your microsd card storage as usb storage.

>Cloud storage exists for a reason
It's also avoided for a reason. Until mobile carriers offer faster than 760Mbps 24/7 unlimited high speed wireless internet connections everywhere on earth, microsd cards are here to stay.
>>
>>54837370
I'll just buy the 64GB from start desu
>>
>>54837496
No, it's not a requirement if you don't have autism. 64 GB is more than enough for the average user.

>Why not?

Why would I keep that on my phone when hard drives, cloud storage and USB drives exist? Those Blurays will sure look great on a tiny ass phone screen.

>It's also avoided for a reason

Again, not by people who don't have autism. I'm pretty sure my Dropbox is quite a bit cheaper and more convenient than buying a 1 TB memory card.

Which one should I go for, the Huawei P9 lite, or Honor 7?

The latter has 1GB more memory, but according to rumors it's GPU isn't the best. P9 lite is still very new, with a worse (?) CPU but according to scores it somehow manages to be pretty good. On the other hand it doesn't have gorilla 3 glass, so dropping it means=dead phone.

I have my 256GB ssd and a 1TB external drive on my rig with a gtx 960, so all my shit just stays on the external drive while games occupy the ssd, so at least for me and maybe for the other guy, storing that much on your phone seems kinda pointless.

Well at first 32GB was plenty (27GB usable). I put a small 20GB music library on it and the rest was used for apps and music video or two. But then I started watching movies on it and collecting more music. Soon I had to constantly delete stuff left and right because there was no storage space left.

Anyway today I have about 40GB worth of music, 100GB worth of movies/tv shows, and other stuff on my 200GB microsd card (~185GB).

Anyway people change man, you're an uncultured swine today but maybe a year or two from now that might change.

Get an 8GB surface pro 3/4 instead. It'll probably cost the same as 6GB android phones but you'll have a full desktop OS and ability to use x86 programs.

Does samsung still mangle the shit out of android?

My nexy 4 is kinda falling apart and those amoled screens sure look pretty, as much as vanilla android calls to me.

Had a samsung in gingerbread days, and have seen the shit my family has (s5's et.al.) that didn't seem to improve much.

So, is still shit?

Don't think the S7 Edge will be getting cyanogen soon enough for me.
>>

Touchwizz hasn't been bad since the s6 and the s7 is miles ahead of the competition
>>
I just want to install cyanogenmod and get a good open source system. Also i'd like to get newer cm versions for a few years. Screen must be amoled between 5" and 5.5". I'd also like physical buttons, but it seems i'm asking too much. Nexus 5x? Oneplus x? Oneplus 3? Galaxy s5? Or do i just wait for the new nexus 5 2016?

>>
>>54840272
No. MM touchwiz is very lightweight and all the unwanted fluff can be disabled now without even rooting.
Exynos (international) models have unlockable bootloader and easy root but will only get tw based custom roms and kernels because lack of Exynos documentation. US models will probably not even get root because they're locked down hard.
I'd honestly never use CM on a phone like this anyway because you'd be gimping the camera and half the extra features you paid for.

I want to take advantage of the metroPCS 2 lines for 60GB with 6Gb data promotion but 2 people need to transfer service. I don't have a phone nor a service, my mother does.

Is there any way to quickly and cheaply get a #/service so I can quickly transfer it to metroPCS?
>>
>>54841004
You should consider boost mobile instead. They give you 10GB for 2 lines but it costs $5/month more.
>>
Does the Zuk Z2 have a back button on that bottom row beside the home button? I think the Z1 had customizable buttons near the home button.
>>
>>54841004
What about getting a prepaid service? I'm pretty sure you can get a prepaid number for less than 50 dollars.
>>
>>54841057
Boost isn't GSM though, is it? My phone options will be limited with CDMA.

Also, metroPCS gives free phone when you transfer. I've never used a smartphone before so a free starter phone sounds nice.
>>54841087
That sounds expensive, fampai. Considering 2 lines with 6GB per line is $60 total with metroPCS.
>>
>>54841004

Probably better off with boost mobile if you don't mind dealing with sprint's retarded network.
>>
>>54834395
I like that when someone mentions a pretty good mainstream phone that's not from china, people berate them for not just getting a xiaomi mi pro 3 or whatever. It's like Apple products. Sure, they aren't the best option for a lot of purposes, but some people will want them regardless, and there's no need to be an asshole to them because of that.
Regardless, I would recommend getting a regular S7. The edge is kind of gimmicky and cumbersome. If you want a bigger screen, just get something like a Mate 8 and keep it in another pocket.
>>
>>54841112

Boost uses Sprint's network which is CDMA.

MetroPCS uses t-mobiles which is GSM.
>>
>>54841112
You can get a prepaid line and then transfer it to metropcs...
>>

Thinking about the Samsung S7, but I'm a bit worried about all the bloatware desu. I had the S2 and it was pretty bad. Thanks, but I really don't like the look of the icons on the LG (same with the Samsungs)(petty, I know, but I have to look at it multiple times a day).

As far as I can tell the biggest difference is the LG has a much better screen resolution, but I don't watch video on my phone, so...

Also, the LG has a curved back, can't type with it sitting on a flat surface, which I would want to do.

What kind of difference in noticeable performance does the Snapdragon 801 provide over Snapdragon 615? Bear in mind the Snapdragon 615 is running with Adreno 405 compared to Adreno 330 on the other phones?

Chipset - Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801
CPU - Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400

Chipset - Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615
CPU - Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53

Gorilla glass is better than "shatterproof glass" on the G3

.

I'm currently running Snapdragon 400 with Adreno 305, KitKat 4.4.2 and it is clunky, so 615 will be a marked improvement, I'm feeling it'll be enough. The problem I have is that no shops stock 2014 phones so I can't test them in person.

Are you saying that Adreno 405 is slower than Adreno 330? That seems counter intuitive.

So, my LG G3 went missing a few days ago on a vacation I went on. And apparently I contacted my provider and said that I had insurance on it. They asked me if I want to replace it for free or get the HTC One (M9) or LG G4 for $99. I got the G4 instead. Was it a good choice, or should I have gotten a more modern phone like the Nexus 6P or One Plus Two?

In fact, it's worked so well i recommend it for anybody who has an aging phone, try get some extra mileage out of your device if you're rooted.

All you do is calculate the DPI for your device, and the DPI for your reduced resolution using a site such as https://www.sven.de/dpi/

and open up a terminal, and enter, for example on my Moto X
>su
>wm density 280
>wm size 720x1280

Fiddle around with the DPI in increments of 20
Enjoy your faster performance at the expense of a minimal amount of blur

Not him, but I used to do this and then I decided it is not worth the hassle to put flac files onto a phone. So, instead I use Google Play Music now which solves most of my problems with storage. Although the quality is compressed down to mp3 320kbps quality

Note 3 owner here. I recommend it, especially if you can take advantage of the S-Pen. It has been a discovery for me. I never thought I'd take my uni notes on it
It's runs very smoothly the official 6.0 too. Look for a good deal and get it.
