Are there any good game engines for Java, Anons? What is, in your opinion the best engine?
Also, game development general.

seconded. I'm a currently working as a junior Java Web Services Engineer and I'm curious about some Java game engines. Anybody know any good ones?
Use Unity + C#.
If you know Java, transitioning to C# will be easy. You just get to keep the good parts from Java and get the awesome parts of C#.

I wouldn't call it good at that point.

The one I'm making to suit my needs.
three.js is the way of the future

lol
You're a developer, learn another language you stupid prick. I hate how devs learn one language and then shoehorn all their work into that one fucking language.
It'll expand your horizons and make you better at your job. I recently learned go, and the gorilla libraries expanded my knowledge of how to configure web api endpoints that I brought over to my work on C# Web Apis.

No but I guess you could try LWJGL.
Use what you need, don't go overkill.
if I start making a 2D game with C and SDL, will I ever finish that project?
Check out jMonkeyEngine

probably not, but it would be cool if you did.
I would play it.
