Solus 1.2 is about to come! Linux Steam Integration, New Kernel, More Budgie awesomeness, i can't wait!

What's so great about it?
>>
>>54830341
I tried to use it, but the shell was laggy on my AMD card.
>>
>>54830341
Why should we care about yet ANOTHER distro that claims to do exactly what every other "user-oriented" distro already fucking does?
>>
>>54830412
Yeah, that's getting fixed in 1.2
>>
>>54830341
I tried it out. Seems kinda shit.

>Packaging done right
>No baggage from older distros
>Really nice Desktop
>Sane compilation flags for binaries
>Performance focus (gaming and stuff)
>Not Ubuntu
>>
>>54830448
But the only reason I use (x)ubuntu is because there is so much documentation and support for it. How is packaging better? Does it use its own DE?
>>
This looks like essentialy dumbed down Linux. If it survives, maybe i'll use it to ease my family into Linux and eventually other distros.
>>
but when are we getting 1.2? is there a beta, release candidate or something?

like that there are other distros still showing up, but also don't like the fragmentation.

oh well, good on them for sticking with it.
>>
>>54830341
But do they have a graphical alt-tab application switcher or at the very least non-random application switching? Like seriously I want to like the distro but if alt+tab can't just switch to the last focused window then something's wrong. The bug report on it has been open for like a year now, and they're working on steam integration and crap instead of super basic usability features.
>>
>>54830472
Yeah, it uses budgie. It's based around the GNOME stack but isn't based on GNOME itself. Basically just shares a bunch of configuration.
>>
>>54831110
it looks almost exactly like gnome and last time I tried it it wasn't all that stable
>>
>>54830341
Is the package manager completely new? Surely a package format needs a critical mass of package maintainers before it actually becomes usable. Seems like it would be impossible to complete with existing competition like deb/rpm formats. How exactly does it work?
>>
>Solus
>Budgie
Those are some stupid-ass names
>>
>>54830341
Do you even care to tell us when they are going to release it?
>>
Lame. I'll stick to Funtoo.
>>
>>54833578
IIRC it's just a tar.xz with some yml metadata but they're thing is that they treat packaging like a build tool or something like that.
>>
>>54830341
Terrible name, terrible logo, terrible desktop, terrible ethos. Get fucked OP.
