Anyone have a Invicta 8926OB? Thinking about getting it as my first automatic but I heard issues with quality control.
>>54828571
>>54828606
i wonder why oris doesn't get more attention, they're an independent company which everyone loves rolex and the like for, have their own style/don't really rip off others.
>>54828793
I really dig the Aquis. I almost bought one at one point but had a change of heart, it's still on my list though.
Rate my new memewatch
>>54829155
And yes, that's a $73 bracelet on a $29 watch
>>54829155
Meme/10 indeed. Whe are you going to buy a big boy watch??
>>54828701
Invicta have a bad rep for quality. Better autos from better manufacturers for less
Look around a bit first in your price range
Do people fake Seiko 5's? I want to buy one but it's out of stock everywhere but eBay. Not sure if that means it could be a scam since I don't use eBay. If it means anything the sellers rating is like 98.9% or something.
>>54828793
>>54828793
I really like them. That's why i was excited to find these two old ones.
I'm just worried about buying a refurbished watch.
But i really like the look of the blue one
>>54829066
I wanted the col moshin.
Ended up changing my mind and getting a second hand submariner, but like you i still have the col moshin on my list
>>54829397
No they India them.
People from India have about 12 million seiko 5 watches so the pull them out of the ganges and drain the water out, repaint the dial and sell them for $20.
Look on ebay India and don't pay much and you will find what you want
>>54829502
>having poo in your watch
wat
>>54829521
They work and they are cheap. As long as you get a good refurb who fucking cares.
Spray the watch with isopropyl if you are so fucking worried
Hey guys slava buyer here.
I got slav'd
Watch looks great and runs but the movement seems loose in the case and the button to change over the day doesn't work.
I want to know how to take the crown off so i can pull the movement out to check the button and try to put it back in without the play in it.
Any ideas?
>>54829155
Sheeeeeit. Keep us updated pls.
give me the pill /g/
are bulova any good?
>>54829689
Their ultra high frequency quartz movement is kind of cool but outside of the watches that use that Bulova is incredibly mediocre.
>>54829502
Would the seller say from India? This one says Singapore. And it costs $99 CAD (which is actually a decent deal in Canada.)
>>54829265
Better autos for less? Seiko movement with hacking and handwinding for under $100 that you find in $400 watches?
Need a diving watch, gonna spend the summer in Bahamas.
Price range is 150-250 ameribucks
Fancy is okay, the more useful stuff on the watch face the better.
Was in the Omega boutique in NYC the other day and was taken into the "VIP section" whatever that's supposed to mean and they had an old central tourbillon DeVille, pretty cool to see.
>>54829881
>>54829881
Singapore sounds legit, the Indian sellers don't hide the fact the watch has been "refurbished "
>>54830095
Shut up and buy a Seiko Monster.
>>54830148
I was thinking more along the lines of something pleasing to look at, not a sausage cutting machine face.
>>54829155
Good fucking shit anon. Pulsar needs to pay me...
Anyway, does it actually have fat seiko diver style spring bars?
Mind taking pics of it off the bracelet?
It's 20mm right?
Also you stole my idea of putting it on an engineer.
Can this pass off as a gen?
>>54829973
he's not wrong, but he's just stating the general consensus re: Invicta
the 8926OB is literally their only good watch

I don't know if gen or not but post pic of watch in water. If you cannot do it. It's fake.
>>54831163
worst submariner fake ive ever seen
i have fallen for the vostok amphibia meme and am now planning on buying one. ideally i want one with the scuba dude and blue dial, will probably replace bezel at a later time.
this isn't the usual watch im interested in where i can just buy it on amazon or longislandwatch though. what are the best online retailers for these? i tried having a look myself but they all look suspect (note: i would rather get from a retailer than ebay.).
are any models known for having issues, or are they all pretty much the same movement with different case designs and dials? i have no idea about these apart from "glorious soviet watch of russian people"
ive seen people post pics of new amphibias that have been announced with the hexagonal cases, when are those coming? is it worth waiting? any change in the movement?
...
Hi! I'm looking for a simple and casual watch under $200 with metal straps and sapphire crystal. Had the Seiko sgeh49p1 in mind, what s do you think about it? Thanks in advance
>>54831340

But you can buy them on Amazon.
>what are the best online retailers for these?
Meranom.com
>are they all pretty much the same movement with different case designs and dials?
Yes.
>when are those coming?
Sometime this year.
>is it worth waiting?
If you don't need a watch immediately, yes. For a roughly similar price you will get some more for your money in quality.
>any change in the movement?
No, unfortunately.

>>54832088
THANK YOU. I'm glad someone pointed that out.
just look at those terribly repainted dials. I've seen worse but I'd still rather burn my money than spend it on one of those
>>54828606
I like this one. How much are they asking for it? Vintage Oris should be very affordable.
Student here.
Is my only option for a 'good' watch to go for a Seiko?
I really like the (for me) high end spectrum and fell in love with watches ever since I saw Celadon and some of the bauhaus stuff that gets posted here.
The simpler the better but it needs to have some personality. It seems like the Seiko watches have none of that.
Oh and I'm definetly not going to buy DW.
So.. Are there any 'good' watches?
>>54832108
>I'd still rather burn my money
It all depends on the price. If those are really, really cheap and anon likes them, why wouldn't he get something he'll probably enjoy?
>>54832117
High end spectrum for Seiko are the Grand Seiko line and the Credor line.
Vintage King Seiko's are also an option.
>>54832146
They are poo in the loo'd Seiko and Citizen's that somebody painted Oris on the dial.
In some cases they even polish off the original markings from the movement.
>>54832059
good to see you came back lawyer
you need to take more macro pics of your other watches and post them :^)
is it true the amphibia has no clicks on the bezel and just spins around randomly?
>>54832117
what's your budget?
I'm in the same boat as you desu. I only want to spend max $300 but at that price there's only boring shit or vintage and I'm too scared to buy vintage in case I get a frankenwatch.
if you want a Nomos, well, it's good motivation to stay in school innit
>>54832156
hey what do you think of this King Seiko?
>>54832228
44XX King Seiko's are fine but they have a few issues that i don't quite recall. Why would you go for the 18000bph version though.
If one of our Candaians is awake he should know exactly why.
Ideally you should go for 5246 and 5256 King Seiko's. LM Specials are also great purchases for sub 300$.
>>54832228
Yes. You understand me completely.
It's not like I wouldn't drop $1k on a watch, I would easily.
It's just that I don't have that right now and it's more likely that I have a few hundreds left at the end of a good month.
And then there's the struggle of picking a watch that's probably the only one you're going to wear for the next 2+ years so it needs to be classic but also have some personality.
It's truly suffering.
>>54832225
It does not click and can rotate in both directions. However on new ones at least it doesn't spin randomly, the bezel is very tight and only moves when you turn it.
>>54832156
>In some cases they even polish off the original markings from the movement.
Damn. SInce I don't usually buy on the dirt cheap side of the market I'm not familiarized with this awful practices.
Indeed, if this sad reality is true, it's not only a shame, but a big no no.
>>54832189
Thanks m8. I'll sure take them.
>>54832228
>>54832268
Have you ever tried to see if there is a local second hand watch market in your city?? Buying vintage is way easier if you're doing it in person.
November can't come soon enough.
>>54832268
hey thanks, you really know your shit. I'll shop around a bit more.
>>54832268
>>54832283
I was just about to ask you how to buy one of those watches.
Every time I think about buying one I get stuck on eBay and see these horrible scratched watches for insane prices.
Thanks for all the help.
>>54832283
Mostly just the Indians doing this kinda of crap. Really easy to spot and avoid as well since they do a shit job.
Though you can easily see if they have polished the original markings off the movements, since there's usually a big plop of metal that is out of place and doesn't look like the original brushing.
>>54832297
It's either me or one of the Candians that usually collect these JDM pieces.
5216 is the best bang for you buck hi-beat that you can get.
>>54832268

>>54832323

Or did you buy them from a certain website or seller? If so, can you recommend a few sellers that are reputable or where to find them?
>>54832329
I found this.

>>54832323

>>54832329
Actually one exactly like mine popped up a while ago on eBay.
But otherwise, you can either buy them on eBay or Y! Japan auctions.
>>54832354
Online only, the only local piece is pic related. Bought for 20$ sold for 60$.
Reputable sellers that do sell JDM pieces (off the of my head), reed0702, nonkun0508 Kate_Davis/Seikoman35 (Same guy, James, and pretty bro tier)
>>54832377
It's a pretty good piece, i've been eyeing for one of these for a while before going for a Weekdater.
It's a different movement than my 52XX which isn't a high beat variant, but because it's a no-date version it lacks the issue with the 56XX cals and it's still super slim.
>>54832403
You can have it.
I'm just scouting around for those other Anons.

>>54832283
>>54832156
Here is the movement.
It looks like the pictures i could find of legit oris watches.
Honestly lawyernon of you want ill link you the black watch but I'm going to buy the blue one
Hey look a shitty photo of a screw i made :3
>>54832697
>plastic spacer
>"vintage watch"
Its 100% fake
>>54832697
The image is pretty bad, but i can see a lot of dirt/rust on the movement.
Likely it was an Oris that was badly water damaged and the dial decayed, so they repainted it. Not as bad as i thought, by them polishing off the branding, but still repainted poo in the loo dial and a movements that's likely to die in a month.
Let alone i'd kek pretty hard if that keeps decent time.
>>54832752
what, in your esteem, is decent time?
is it a big deal for a watch to have unknown service history?
what about if the last service was 10 years ago?
thanks
>>54832748
My 1960's slava has a plastic spacer, and the deal is ?
>>54832770
Now, decent time is when a watch does like +/- 1 minute per 24 hours (subjective, but for this price range you can't complain) and can be regulated to do better.
Anything more than that usually means that either somebody fiddled with the regulator, which is usually +/-5 minutes, if it's pushed all they way to the + or - indicators, or if it's any more than that it means the movement is is fucked.
Either way what you got there is an movements that somebody washed in the waters of the Ganges, cleaned with a hairdryer, repainted the dial, sprinkled some cow urine on for good blessing and put it on eBay for the first sucker to get it.
So to say, the service history of any watch with a repainted dial coming out of India is rather well known. Rest of your questions are pointless to answer on this kind of watch.
>>54832697
I'm not sure, but I don't think thats an authentic Oris movement. It's from HFH and I can't remember if they ever sold ebauches to Oris, plus, if they did, the finishing would be simpler.
It does look like it has some markings erased. (see pic attached)
Also, a plastic ring? Lots of red flags in there.
Sorry m8, but I would advise you not buy it afterall.
>>54832850
Fucking phone dropped my namefag again.
>>54832850
Oris are known to use Ebauche movements, from ETA, FHF, AS and several more.

>>54831384

actually, fuck it. they're so cheap on the site you recommended ill just get another one when it comes out
just have to figure out which of the million fucking variants i want
>>54832876
I'm not saying they didn't. Just that I can't remeber seeing that particular FHF finishing ever inside an Oris.

Trying to classify everything is a bit of a lost cause, and it doesn't really matter as most differences are cosmetic between all Amphibians anyways. Are you looking for vintage or new? This pic covers most new ones.
>>54833719
>if he posted without a name people would just always asked him what he does for a living
People still do this regardless, and at least he and the Seiko people (and especially watchmakeranon) have a reason to be identified (directly or indirectly) because of their contributions, you don't.
>>54833719
>la avocado is quite wealthy, if he posted without a name people would just always asked him what he does for a living
He's got his nickname from the late Agnelli, that's what I was talking about. He can't call anonymity meaningless.
Regarding an opinion in a certain way just because you know where it comes from is a negative thing anonymity helps to get rid of. You should judge the opinion by and for itself.
>>54831628
Yes it had, the blue scubadude has been steadily declining in quality since the fall of the Soviet-Union. I believe they deleted the frame around the time they restructured Vostok after their 2010 bankruptcy.
>>54833719

im confused and don't understand this shit, it says amphibia case sizes then lists the 090
im reading elsewhere (picrelated) the 090 is a 50m wr komandirskie with amphibia dial?
you seem to know this stuff, are the ones listed on meranoms the only ones in production anymore? (that being the 061, 090, 100, 110, 120, 420, 710, 960?), or only the ones in the pic you posted.
i realize im being a needy cunt but there's a lot of conflicting information everywhere.

Though the new ones are nicely organized, especially the soon to be released models which look sweet as hell. Pricing won't that cheap though, atleast not on the first few batches.

That's about 90% of all of the new gen "terrorists". They literally do a post on FB that says "Sorry family, but i must go and do jihad to honor allah" before taking a knife and attempting to stab somebody on the street a few hours later.

There is literally nothing wrong with the Seiko 44 caliber at all. It is practically perfect in terms of reliability, the only thing is that it runs at a very leisurely 18000 bph. The "problem" with these is that Daini fitted a little weight to the hairspring to increase accuracy, and over the years a lot of dumb Jap watchmakers mistook the weight for unwanted debris and removed it. So if you find a 44A that still has it, conaider yourself a lottery winner.
The 45 caliber was the one that was disastrously unreliable.
>>54832323
There are actually two or three JDM-collecting Canadians. Because we all have access to the same watchmaker.

Yeah, no.
I'm thinking of buying it for €300+import taxes.
I've got a bitch wrist and I like the design. I was thinking of buying a 6R15 Seiko but I don't like the designs, except a couple that are ultra rare and cost a lot more.
Thinking of wearing it daily, even while working in a kitchen-like environment.
It mounts an ETA 2824-2

Nice.
>>54836797
Some Jap took the watch to a lathe, basically.
>>54837311
Yeah the basic problem with the 45 caliber is that the mainspring has too much tension, so when it breaks, because of the cannon pinion design (which is also not great) the whole watch is ruined. But the high tension and the high beatrate also cause the watch to basically rip itself apart. I've seen lots of gears from different watchmakers working on 45xx pieces, they all have uneven wear and worn-down teeth.
Basically, the 45 caliber was the only time Daini really fucked up. Suwa's 5740 was dead simple and way more reliable. I think a neat swap would be taking a 5740 from a Lord Marvel with a fucked up dial and trying to jam it in to a 45 case with a fucked up movement (because the 45xx King Seiko is absolutely beautiful).
>>54837605

>>54838855

>>54838655
Good to know.
Now that i think of it the 5740-800X series are rather simple movements, simple handwound movements with no hacking and or special features besides 36k bph. Which is a bonus since they are robust and easy to service.

I've been looking at Lord Matics and meant to ask you about the bracelet. What is so special about them? Are they supposed to have solid links or something? Because I've seen a bunch with what appear to be folded links.
>>54839678
Mine is half folded rings/ half solid.
The trick about them is that they are both original to the watch, and are pretty comfy.
Which is a bit of a shame on my part, since the bracelet i have is just a lil bit too tight on my 7.5 inch wrist but no more links for it. When i was sick for a while it fitted perfectly on me.
>>54835890
Look, glycine is a sorta non-entity brand.
Only models of note from them are the airmen, and of that line only the purist 24hr model is at all interesting.
Everything else is generic in design and uses the same parts everyone else uses.
How much should you spend?
However much you want.
Silly question.
Considering it's nothing special at all and uses the same off the shelf shit as everyone else "not much" would be a good starting point.
>>54840110
Honestly I like the design of the combat 7 a lot more than the Seiko field watches like the sarg011 or the sarg007. It's clean and it's simple.
If the watch usually sells for €500 or more and I can get it for €400 or less it would be a huge plus. You can't just say "not much", "however much you want". Do you bathe in money by chance? Because I don't. Everything's got a value.
Here in Italy Glycine seems to be well regarded as a entry level brand so I don't know where you're coming from with the non-entity brand stuff. Of course it doesn't have the personality of a hand polished premium watch, it costs €300 for fuck's sake, do you have any other option for that sum with a non generic design? I thought so.
If you spent 5 seconds rereading your post you would have seen you're not saying anything at all, let alone be helpful.
>>54840586
>Here in Italy Glycine seems to be well regarded as a entry level brand so I don't know where you're coming from with the non-entity brand stuff.
Different guy here but in America Glycine is relatively unknown. Pretty much only serious enthusiasts who spend time on the watch forums and blogs know about then. According to the Glycine website there isn't one single dealer for them in my state.
>>54834070
I'm not sure where they got the 090 number from. Those models are not common, and they're old, so official documentation is nonexistant. That's what I said about lost cause. But yes, I guess it's possible they could have used the same number for an Amphibian case and a Komandirskie case.
Meranom pretty much only sells things currently in production, yes. That's why everything is listed as a preorder, because they can just assemble the watches as needed, unless they're completely out of stock, because the owner works for the factory itself. Some other sites like Chistopolcity.com and Komandirskie.com might have stock left of no-longer-produced models.
>>54834106
So you admit you're mostly doing it to lower the quality of posts here, brilliant.
>>54840781
Exactly. Just because you don't know the brand it doesn't mean it's a "non-entity".
I mean, compared to other immensly famous and illustrious brands it is but that doesn't mean it's bad or not worthy. What kind of critique is that? It tells nothing about the quality of the watch itself and if it's worth the money you're spending.
Seiko inserts fit Amphibia 110's right?..Been considering getting one, but god damn that bezel is ugly.
>>54841173
You need a custom bezel first.
These usually come with Seiko inserts to start with.
