thats how it always starts
then you plug in a new peripheral and the driver doesnt auto install.. you go to the manufacturers website and they only have a binary that only works on redhat based distros, you search google and find some guy who has found a solution but you have to install 50 dependencies to compile it, you immediately get a compiler error and discover one of the deps you had to install manually (because your package manager couldn't find it in and sources) is broken and there hasn't been any active development on that project for years, so then you learn cobal to you can patch it yourself, then you become the Terry Davis

Identify what your needs from your computer are and find programs that match those needs.

My first installs on fedora were cmus, krita, emacs, vlc and chromium.

Then I also went through and removed any packages or programs I didn't need.

Not much different then what you would do on a fresh windows install.
