this, also for developers, Apple’s computers are great because it allows you to develop in a UNIX environment with Apple’s tools such as XCode and other software only available under OSX.
And just to make it clear, I really don’t like at all Apple’s policy and OSX, but I have to admit it is really useful for development, be it web dev or software dev.
Still, there is no good reason not to use OSX, GNU/Linux or Windows except if you don’t _need_ it or want it, each OS has its pros and cons, for daily use, or for work/studies tasks.

There's little reason to buy a Macbook Air.
It's basically a light laptop that can't play games, you can't edit video, photos, do any heavy computing on it.
Why would you spend $800 on a web browsing computer with more power than what you need? Sure the trackpad and keyboard are nice, but who gives a fuck? Just buy a Chromebook with a mouse dummies.
