Which one is the lesser evil?
>>
Owncloud.
>>
>>54820752
Are you fucking blind?
>>
Out of those three I'd say Dropbox. Which isn't to say that Dropbox is good, it's just that on Google Drive you can literally access every file of another account simply by googling certain keywords and the other has been removing good features over time to sell you a premium account.
>>
>>54820704
Joke: iCloud Drive.

Real answer: flash drive
>>
>>54820704
dropbox since it isn't an advertising company or a botnet
>>
>>54820704
the same but dropbox is smaller

>setup your own cloud with 5 TB storage
There is no evil here.
>>
Why would you store your own files on someone else's computer? Get a VPS with owncloud, at least you retain some control.
>>
>>54820704
If you do client-side encryption they're all the lesser evil.
>>
>>54820704
One drive, but mostly because it's the devil I know...
>>
>>54820704
Out of those options, it would be Dropbox because it's not connected to an entire corporation's ecosystem. You want to diversify the services you use as much as possible to avoid stickiness that leads to being stuck with one company.
>>
>>54820752
Yeah, no.

Owncloud is trash. I set up an owncloud server myself, and it flat out did not work properly.

As in, did not sync files correctly. And lets not forget the blazing fast performance of two days for a couple hundred megs of small files. Their people in their IRC channel are cunts too; I tried to setup owncloud first with sql lite just for testing - despite me telling them this they *refused* to help, simply telling me over and over to use mysql (lest anyone be confused, I got the blazing fast performance while use mysql, no sql lite).

Seafile is the only workable self-cloud solution (as in, the only one that works). Its a shame they have put all the files in blocks so you cannot access them on the server w/o their tools and their documentation is so out of date.

Own Cloud
>>
>>54821495
Almost forgot to mention, the owncloud windows client crashed constantly. The linux one didn't instead it just silently stopped syncing. Fucking trash.
>>
>>54821495
i can bring up an anecdote too pham.

>>54821495
It's FREE, you can fix everything yourself. PHP is not too hard of a language.
>>
>>54821549
then get the fuck out
>>
>>54821522
Okay, then lets talk features familia.

Owncloud doesn't have delta sync. So that big archive file you have? good luck uploading the entire thing every time you make any change. Or owncloud's abysmal performance with small files (this is a known problem). So, what use case is this for? none because it is trash?

If it works for you, you must not actually have any amount of data worth caring about. Or it has silently failed and you just haven't noticed :^)
>>
>>54821574
What a counter argument. "You should use our broken garbage because you can fix it yourself."

It would be easier for me to just fucking write my own rather than the debug and add major features to a pile of garbage.
>>
>>54821622
eh you are right that it sucks for that use case.

i'm using it to backup stuff that doesn't amount to more than 2gb total, kinda like how i used dropbox before dropping it.

hope it gets better in that regard, but as long as my use case keeps working fine.
>>
>>54821495

If I had to choose between the 3, OneDrive. If only because I have 40 GB of free storage with them.

Otherwise I use SpiderOak, cuz more privacy. And BTsync to sync between the machines on my LAN.
>>
>>54820704
Cloud storage is a bad meme. Just get 4 or 5 external drives that are like 2TB each. I have them color coded with construction paper taped on the drives and wires. If you can't afford this option, kill yourself.

gtfo you little bitch
>>
>>54824593
Or, how about this, friend? I am lazy and just want to sync my files between my computers, and it's nice for it to be done automagically.

For example, on my main desktop machine with lots and lots of storage, I can just drag and drop my hentai into a folder... and bam, my hentai is synced to every machine.

So when I'm in my room, my hentai is there. When I'm in the washroom, my hentai is on the monitor across from the toilet. etc.

I'm not lugging a bunch of HDDs with me everywhere. Too inconvenient.

Its pretty good, I have a few things I dislike about it but it seems to be the only viable option.

protip: the service url setting in the config files doesn't actually do anything. The same setting is in the web interface. They are totally seperate and the web interface service_url takes priority, so... the one in the config file is a red herring. Took me forever to figure out.

>>54824526
>>54826120
BTsync was good, but since 1.4 it is pure cancer (read only folders behind a paywall? usernames? wtf?)

I tried syncthing, and it never worked properly. It would sync files, but have a couple left unsynced... even if you pressed the 'force changes' or whatever button. There was also no way to have a primary folder/have things automatically stay in sync despite that being highly requested. Stinks of the dev putting their weird principals before practicality.
>>
>>54827168
>BTsyncThing

Yep. That's why I like BTsync. I don't like some of its features being locked behind paywalls... but what features it does have, work, and work well.

I just want something that's simple, and gets out of my way so I can do the shit I need to. Tired of embarassing myself when I need something to work, but always run into weird edge cases, or have to go digging through obscure shit when it should've done something sane in the first place.

Agreed there, friend.

Although their other product, Encryptr, is ass. It looked like it was supposed to compete with LastPass, but they really, really dropped the ball with it. It sucks. No reason to use it.

I've used all 3 services.

Dropbox imo is the easiest to use, very intuitive.
google drive is the most confusing to use, the interface is garbage.
onedrive falls between those two, the interface is better but still not as friendly as say dropbox.

Pricewise for 1TB, the only real choice is onedrive.
Onedrive + office 365 costs LESS than dropbox or google drive

There's no overall best one, and none of your online stuff is safe/secure forever, so practically speaking they should all be treated as potentially evil.

Here's what I do:

google photos for pictures. Its automatic organization/advanced searching is leagues ahead of anyone else.

google drive for quick documents made with docs, slides, etc.

dropbox for collaborative folders, as it works with mac users etc

onedrive for sending large files to people (100gb free)

personal work files go on a personal hard-drive, not on the cloud
