I'm so confused right now. Any Linux distribution I install on my laptop (Inspiron i779, i5, 960m, M.2, 16gb ram) boots totally fine off the installer USB, installs without a hitch, then pulls this shit when I try and boot it. I have had 1 good boot where this doesn't happen. Google says it's something about the kernel and nvidia graphics, but this last time I didn't let it install drivers. I can't change the kernel becaus I can't boot, unless I can do that from the terminal in safe mode somehow but I don't know how to do that.

It does this if I leave it long enough.

found your problem!

btw you should really consider installing a distribution which works well and generally supported. you wouldn't run into issues like this if you'd use Ubuntu or Debian.

This is literally Kubuntu 16.04.

And that means?

retards
From the looks of it it may be a hardware problem. I don't actually know though.
Using a different kernel may help. You said any linux distro you try this happens, exactly which ones did you try?

>>54818857
Ubunutu and Kubuntu. So really the same thing.
I had trouble with Mint loading off a USB, same errors.

I'll also add my laptop here is not even 2 months old.

not really. Arch and Ubuntu (which Kubuntu is based on) are different operating systems, but both of them are based on the GNU\Linux kernel. They're not the same, and I bet that you wouldn't have this problem if you'd use Ubuntu.

>retards
just out of curiosity, why am I a retard? I'm a retard, because I'd like to use a GNU\Linux based OS which works out of the box, and generally well supported? Because I don't want to face issues like this, spending half of my day troubleshooting the issue? From my point of view, I'm not the retard, but you are.

try adding nomodeset to the grub kernel paramaters

God, you're a moron.

I'll give Ubuntu another try and see what happens I suppose.

I'll try this first.

I'm pretty sure he just saw a bunch of words he didn't understand and immediately assumed it was Arch.

95% of Arch haters have no idea what they're talking about, after all.

You have a virus.
>>
>>54818903
Sorry I got distracted. But considering your laptop is fairly new, you should definitely try to get the latest kernel. If you're not into installing Arch, try the latest Fedora, whatever that is.

Not your personal tech support.

I don't know why all these people are going on about Arch, it's just Kubuntu lol.

>>54819289
This guy gets it.

You know. I use Nvidia as well but never use the nonfree drivers. Distros like that might try and install them out the box. If you can boot in a live medium and everything works fine then it's definitely the OS and not a hardware failure like these retards believe. Go with FreeBSD, Gentoo, LFS ect. something light and minimal. Fuck *buntu.

Try to disable one of the GPUs in BIOS

NMI watchdog is nonmaskable interrupt

You either have an issue with the CPU or the memory controller - try a memtest86+ to rule out your RAM as being the culprit before you chuck it
