What went wrong?
This could have been the game that presents free software to masses and explains in a fun way why using free software is important.
There is still time to make it happen.
FOSS game engine called Godot was released some time after GTG project was abandoned, so now we have better tools to make it.
There is also a project that aims to make FOSS engine for GTA 3, but is far from completed.
Post ideas, how could fun game present FOSS philisophy and ethics to normalfags-

I will make the logo

That was probably coded from scratch
There are many FOSS tools that would make game development much easier
Rampages in this game should have you kill pedestrians that are using non-free software on their phones

95% of the budget was spent on making logos.
>MFW I ran the windows binary through wine-staging, because I don't want to bother with libraries and shit
Also, the QT version is completely different, and it only has the main menu.

I just found out that UnrealEditor has LiveEdit plugin, which basically allows collaborative game development in real time. Quite hardcore if you ask me.
I think that Godot engine could use something similar.
I assume that Godot is the best free / open source engine for general game development, correct me if I'm wrong.

Just make a textbased adventure like the old school games, one that requires you to use the cli and teaches you some gnu/linux and bash skills in the process. A game that shows new users the power of the cli and how GUIs are for gays, females, And niggers

>>54817150
>using gamemaker
no wonder its shit
>>54815374
If you thought a GTA clone with a zero marketing budget is going to spread free software to everyone, you're surely mistaken. It won't even make it anywhere outside the niche.

>New York City in the promo
>a generic 8-bit style maze game in the screenshot
>>54821357
Xenko is better
I mean at least is has been used in a game that was actually released
>>54821478
>GUIs are bad
Autism at its finest.
Now that we have graphic capability you can't market anything without them and you're stupid to assume you could.
>>54821747
>GTA clone
but it ended up being Maze clone
however I believe that it would get outside of /g/
maybe even to GOG or ironically on Steam
>>54821789
>>in the promo
>he doesn't know they are just GIMPed GTA 4 images / loading screens

I could do something better in visual basic in 5 minutes

Do it, show us what you got
>>54822047
Should make it a doom clone. There should be plenty of doom clone tutorials avail for /g/-pajeet tier coders to just fork doom and add some stallman shit

You said it yourself, a proper game engine and/or libraries. Now we have options.
Game Engines: id Tech 4, Godot, Urho3D, libGDX.
Libraries: OpenGL (+ GLFW), OpenAL, OpenCL.
There is also SDL of course.
But why not using an existing game, add it some history and art works and bang, you have a working game?
>>54824931
Isn't cry engine open source now?
>>54824988
I don't like its license, do you have any experience with it?
>>54824346
This or unreal engine 4 are your two options
>>54825087
>unreal engine 4
*id tech 4

>What went wrong?
One word:
qmake
>>54825044
I have no experience with games, I'm looking up to make a hack n slash this semester
It doesn't take much to make a game if you know the tools.
Blender + OpenAL = Yo Frankie!
Is pretty for a 3d platformer and is based on a tool so easy probably /g/'s neet can get in to.
Or maybe hunt for devs in /agdg/ - Amateur Game Dev General. Those losers ask for colab all the time.
